McClellan Park is a very small neighborhood park. There is nothing special about it, but if it’s the closest park to your home, it would obviously be a convenient choice. It’s far enough from Cottage Grove Rd to be quiet. I’d call it a quaint park. Unfortunately, there aren’t many big trees around to provide shade. The playground set is completely exposed to the sun, as are the benches. Any children and parents visiting this park may find themselves rather uncomfortable on a hot day. I didn’t see any water fountains either, which wouldn’t help matters. There is a full basketball court, but it doesn’t appear to be lined. It also lacks shade so there may be better options unless you’re just up for some quick practice. Like most public parks in Madison, no dogs allowed.
