We were actually looking for a deli but saw this place and decided to stop… it was a hidden gem! My husband got the steak & cheese and i got a calzone, both were amazing! We’ll definitely be going back!

The first time I stopped in, I ordered two sandwiches and fries. There was one person handling the register and preparing/serving food to a guest and one person around in the back of the restaurant(there’s only ever one or two tables eating at a time) so I didn’t mind the wait before ordering. Once I ordered, I noticed that I was accidentally charged $ 10 extra. The lady was happy to refund it back to me in cash. About HALF an hour later I got the food with a side of ranch that was so frozen it was almost a ranch slushee. I brushed it off and tried going back hoping for a better experience the second time… my mistake. There was one man handling the food and orders from over the phone and one person in the back. I waited 10 minutes for the man to prepare and serve the guests before ordering(not a big deal) once I ordered I waited about 25 minutes for a small appetizer. I wouldve expected maybe 10⁄15 minutes to deep fry or throw them in the oven, but I literally watched this guy prepare an appetizer for this table, serve it, then keep working on telephone orders. I understand you need to prioritize, but walk in guests are ALSO a priority. Again, ranch was too frozen to even eat with my appetizer. Too many mistakes, too pricey for the quality of the food and always understaffed to ever go back again!

Average. I can only assume most reviews are from friends and family. No waitress to come to table and take order. Forgot to give us cups. Forgot to give us salad dressing. Forgot to give us PLATES. Waitress never checked on us. She seemed bored and a little put off that our party of 7 stopped by. As for the food the pizza crust was great the pizza itself was average. Too much cheese on the pizza. The baked ziti was all cheese. Nothing noteworthy and service lacking.

I was a bit skeptical but now I am a believer. Great pizza in a place not known for great pizza. We really appreciated the reheating(frying pan) instructions too. Thanks

About a 2 – 2.5: This pizza place is located in the small town of Madison; they offer house-made dishes and an extensive menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, calzones, stromboli, desserts, and kid menu options. When you walk in, you order at the counter, pay, and then they bring the food out to you in the dining area. We tried the ‘Pie in the Sky,’ which is basically a cheese pizza Italian grinder — meaning, you have a cheese pizza, folded over, filled with cappicola, mortadella, pepperoni, ham, Genoa salami, provolone cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, and house Italian dressing; then, it’s sliced into 4 pieces. While the concept was quite intriguing, I wasn’t much of a fan of the taste; the pizza being used as the bread was just too thick, and the cold Italian sub ingredients inside a very hot pizza is just a little weird, as the cheese starts flopping off and the tomato sauce gets all over the cold ingredients, making it all lukewarm. T___T I also tried the ‘A Fun Guy’(battered mushrooms; these were crispy, but were underseasoned; their housemade horseradish sauce was better than the Italian spiced ranch sauce) and the ‘Bada-Bing-Bang Tots’(tator tots in a Bang Bang-style sauce(which was the sweet Thai chili sauce; the tators were crispy, but it was just overly sweet with the sauce). The staff here were super friendly and kind, and I really liked the funny framed posters they had decorating the place. I’m glad I got to try Pie in the Sky out, but we just weren’t fans! +local pizza place in Madison +friendly staff: D +plenty of parking

My husband and I spontaneously stopped at this little pizza place as we were traveling through. We were more than than pleased that we did! The pizza we shared was excellent. I loved the crust, definitely tastes homemade. The wonderful, super friendly lady working recommended the lemon pizza for dessert. It was nothing like I expected nor have had before, it was so much better! We were shocked at how amazing it was. It had mozzarella cheese, actual lemon slices, and powdered

We recently stumbled across an unpretentious, hidden gem of a pizzeria in downtown Madison, Virginia. Having grown up with excellent Italian pizza such as Frank Pepe’s in New Haven, we proudly consider ourselves to be unrepentant pizza snobs. Even so, however, we were pleasantly blown away by the Italian sausage and mushroom pizza we had for lunch. It was an unexpected delight rivaling any pizza we’ve had elsewhere in recent memory. This place is well worth a short detour off the primary, more heavily traveled highway through Madison. The service was fast and friendly, too. We’ll definitely be planning a return visit next time we’re anywhere near Madison.

Owner is an expat Yankee so he knows pizza and food. And it shows. This place is a gem and worth the 5 minutes it will take you off 29 to get there. Best pizza in the Central VA region. Both the featured pies and any you might order are outstanding, rest of menu good. Plus, Madison is a great little laid back mountain town with easy access to Shenandoah National Park and some good hiking nearby. Don’t miss if you’re passing through. Hours are a bit constrained for a pizza place. That costs them a star. But otherwise outstanding.

Plan to visit or pull over for this place. Delicious fresh food, and variety — plus a friendly staff. Fantastic pizza crust and toppings baked to perfection. Excellent sides, too. I took a half-bake pizza home and it was served at a party to rave reviews. Can’t wait to get back and try some of the other items on the menu.

I ate lunch here with my husband and our year old son a couple of weeks ago after a hiking excursion. WOW! Amazing pizza! The crust was crispy with those little bubbles around the outer edge, and thin but not soggy towards the middle. The cheese was mellow and deliciously melted. We devoured our pizza, as well as some very creative sweet potato fries with a spicy dipping sauce. We have driven past this place several times, but never stopped. SO glad we stopped that day! We will be back :)

I travel along 29 a lot. After a while fast food burgers and sandwiches just don’t cut it. So one day I decided to go down Business 29 in Madison and I found Pie-in-the-Sky. Great Speciality pizzas, salads and sandwiches, all made fresh right there. I stop there for lunch every time I am passing by.

I have lived in New York. I have lived in New Jersey. I know good pizza when I eat it. This is good, good pizza. They make their own dough and toppings are spot on.

I’ve had pizza, salad, and sandwiches at Pie in the Sky, and they are all great!
