Lacking a music nerd friend who will let you dig through their massive vinyl collection in the garage while talking your ear off about various musical minutiae? Resale Records is here to fill the void. Located in the most random pre-fab shack on Commercial Avenue, it’s a bit dark, fairly musty, but full of good finds at reasonable prices. While some of the other patrons eyed us warily when we walked in, the owner was very inviting. He explained to us how the shop was set up and asked what we were looking for. I was just browsing, and after giving me about 10 minutes he came back to see what I usually purchased. I am not a vinyl collector — I just nab things that look interesting or that I enjoy, so I told him as much and he left me to my digging. Most records(at least in the rock bins) were priced around $ 3.50 — totally reasonable for the selection and condition. There’re also several crates of dollar records and a decent selection of cassette tapes — I considered walking away with INXS’s Kick, but that’s really more of a driving tape and my car lacks a cassette player. While we were browsing the owner and a presumable couple of regulars chatted at length about a Canadian rock show similar to Nights with Alice Cooper that he managed to pick up on the radio that centered on Randy Bachmann — I forget what the debate was about, but it was lively and nerdy and I loved eavesdropping on every second of it. Make a trek one weekend and check it out — it’s an anachronistic little slice of the rock and roll life.

Whenever I meet someone who loves vinyl(especially the classics) I ask them if they’ve been to this little gem. So this place might not be heated, or carpeted or very clean but if you love the thrill of the vinyl hunt and can forgo the usual comforts for just under an hour it’s so worth it! They do not carry vinyl new releases-you will likely not find anything post 1990’s This place reminds me of my favorite Philly record store basement where you can find 1950’s country, 1980’s new wave and 1970’s pop, lots of great jazz and other unique tastes. This place is not for snobs, so if you’d rather stay home pay 3x-4x the price and order on eBay or Amazon do that. For me I like digging and getting a little dirty to find pure vinyl gold.

I’ll agree with other reviewers that the atmosphere of this store may be pretty off-putting. It’s basically just a dimly-lit rundown shack. A few years ago I vowed never to return due to an overwhelming bad odor inside. But I recently tried it one more time and had a better experience. Despite the atmosphere, there are some very interesting records to be found in the collection! Very reasonable prices, and many albums are in very good to great(even excellent) condition. The owner can be quirky, but seems generally friendly and helpful. If you’re esp. into older jazz or the«male & female vocal» genre, I think you’ll find the selection quite interesting. Not too bad for rock and blues either, though that selection seemed a bit more common. Worth the trip for the more adventurous vinyl hunter.

Don’t overlook this nasty old Quonset hut for your vinyl needs. I found two German disco records that I wanted, and one of the proprietors gave me a can of Schlitz. Thanks, and I’ll be back!

This is a dank little place! And I don’t mean that in stoner-speak. It is literally a dank, dank, little place. Granted, I’m from Californy and I’m not used to the drippy August humidity that was in effect when I visited, but wowzers was it steamy and dank in there. There was an impressive assortment of vinyl for sale! I found quite a few little gems. If you’ve got itchy, black tips, then definitely stroll through there. It is an interesting digging experience! If you’re sensitive to inhaling mildew and perhaps exotic molds, then I’d bring some air filtration apparatus along with you. And the record sleeves on the damper side of the shop had water damage. Beware! But check it out.
