Steak ‘n Shake

Worst service in history of fast food. Each server said it was their first day. Manager said she’d been here 15 minutes and it was her first day. No words as to how poorly this restaurant is being ran. Do not waste your money.

I’ve gone to this location since I moved out to Madison, and have had decent service. Here recently, it’s been horrible!
The food has been good, but the service has been slow. I went in with a friend to catch breakfast, and no one seated us. The worker we did come across was flippant and dismissive, therefore we seated ourselves. Several staff members walked by without so much as a glance. It took 20min just to receive drinks. It took another 30min to receive our order. It then took another 15−20min to receive the check, and pay!
My friend and I could’ve easily walked out of the building without anyone noticing we’d gone! The worker that cashed us out got visibly upset and confused when we left visibly upset and unamused.

Just came back from the drive thru at this location picking up food for a family member. When I received the food it was ice cold. I went into the facility and they attempted to tell me that they have a no cash back company policy and that they would remake the food. That food went in the garbage. I know for a fact that when you have a no cash back policy it needs to be posted and written on the receipts. I used to work at Burlington Coat Factory back in the day as a cashier.
Even the shake sucked.

This is a good value. It’s quick, it’s cheap, and the staff is nice. I’ve only been to this one, but as greasy spoons go it’s fine.

I would have given this place a 3 star, because the food was pretty good and our server, God bless her, she tried so hard and stayed so positive! I love that. But everything I ordered came out wrong… burger was loaded with the works and I has specified what ingredients I wanted. Ordered fries with chili/​cheese, I hot cheese/​bacon. And the worse (and maybe thus is the way they do it). The egg on my royale burger was a well done fried, I am used to over easy. Not with that I will come back and give another go so I can hopefully add another 1 or maybe even 2 more stars.

I’ve always loved Steak and Shake and after being away from TN for three years I was super excited to go in and get one of my favorite burgers and a shake. Unfortunately, I think I ended up going to a bad location. Upon entering the place wasn’t busy since it was the afternoon but I noticed a man and his young daughter waiting to be seated. I saw one waitress waiting a table and a few others huddled by the drink machine. I saw what I assume to be a cook or a manager ringing someone up at the register and looking at me and the other party of 2. After waiting for a few minutes, the waitress finally said «Someone will be with you guys shortly.» A few minutes pass and another girl finally comes out and seats me. I already knew what I wanted to so she took my order and said she’d be right back wth my drink. Once again she disappeared and minutes later still no drink. My order finally comes to the table, brought by another girl. I ask her for some ketchup because my table doesn’t have condiments not even the famous tiny little peppers that are usually there and she looks annoyed. She comes back and places it on the table saying nothing. At this point I’m still waiting for my drink and I can’t tell anyone because the dining area has no employees or waitresses to be found. Finally my original waitress comes out and begins wiping down tables and I ask her about my drink. She’s say, «Oh,». No sorry or anything. When I finally get my drink and start to eat my food I hear the manager arguing and belittling some of the employees near the drink machine. I was going to order dessert but it took so long for the waitress to come back that I said just forget it! I’m not in Madison often but more than likely I won’t be back. The food wasn’t bad but this is not the Steak and Shake experience I’m usually used to!

It was a little busy, not unlikely, the service was good not the best. Our waitress was good and clear and friendly. The triple burger was great but the patties were a little on the thin side. They could be a little thicker but that’s ok. Great strawberry and banana milk shake! Made with real bananas!!! Super great!

Steak ‘n Shake has become our favorite fast-​food burger joint. Though pricier than the big burger chains, their burgers are much better. My favorite is the pepperjack melt. Their french fries are cut very thin, so they cook up nice and crispy. But for a real treat, try the chili-​cheese fries. They are delicious. And my vegetarian daughter loves their grilled cheese sandwiches.
Don’t forget to get a shake. Unlike the typical burger joints who have one flavor in three different colors, these shakes really taste great. They have a lot of different flavors, and even more combinations.
They also serve breakfast, and my favorite is the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit.

For a fast food restaurant, Steak n Shake has consistently solid food and service. If I want a good burger, I would prefer Five Guys or something along those lines, but for a quick pass through the drive-​thru, you can’t find a better burger than what you will find at Steak n Shake. I love the fact that their patties are thin and have frayed, crispy edges and served on a toasted buttery bun. YUM. I also love their fries. OMG, the fries. They are super skinny shoestring fries and always perfectly salted and crispy. I usually stick with the double steakburger, but have also tried the Western BBQ which has barbecue sauce, bacon, and fried onion strips, and their patty melt, which are both solid contenders. If you are looking for something a little different and extra rich (as if it could get much more decadent), they have a Royale Burger, which includes a fried egg to top off all of the already ridiculous goodness that is their burger. I love that they offer this burger, as I am a firm believer that there is always room for a fried egg to improve things. Their shakes are also very good. They are made with real ice cream and come in a variety of flavors, like Turtle (caramel, hot fudge, and nuts). OK. I feel myself slipping into a food coma and needing to take a jog around the neighborhood after just writing this review, so it’s not an everyday thing, but definitely worth having every now and then.
