Veterans of Foreign Wars Truax-Longmire Post 8483

This was your typical local VFW with a lot of locals so we were definitely newbies. Especially since we didn’t know the ordering system. It’s seat yourself, but first place your order with the cashier over by the kitchen. They’ll give you tickets for your order, then take a seat. A waitress will be around to grab the tickets and bring some of the sides. Be aware that they quit serving food a bit earlier, by 8 I think.
We all really enjoyed the fish and it was ready pretty quick. The breading was nice, light and crispy. The cod and walleye were both great — the walleye was a nice big long filet and more than enough for me, though just right for those with bigger appetites. The sides were good accompaniments; aside from the usual suspects, they include baked beans.
Proximity is a benefit, but the fish is worth coming back for even if it were on the other end of Madison. Our first time, but won’t be our last.

The fish fry on Friday is great. Very casual, reasonably priced, and comfortable atmosphere. The bar has some very good craft beer in addition to the usual.
