We planned an evening to entertain some friends on a busy holiday weekend so were happy that J Arthur’s took reservations. My husband ordered one of the specials which was a very overpriced ribeye that tasted marginal. I’ve never seen him use steak sauce before this dinner. My salmon was good. Our guests didn’t complain but they were probably just being nice since they didn’t compliment their entrées either. All of the regular sides were starchy and to get a healthier side you had to pay extra. The server was good but service was extremely slow. They were busy and with their prices we expected a better meal. Doubt we will return.

Ate here with my family on our trip to Maggie Valley. The food was really good and the iced tea(strangely worth mentioning) was really delicious. The atmosphere is really quaint and homey, it fits in with the area. I guess the only drawbacks were the long waits and pricey menu. I would still return our next visit.

Met long time friends there for dinner. They had the mignon –excellent! We had ribeyes — excellent as well. We have eaten there many times over the years and always consistently wonderful. Plan ahead during busy tourist times — ski season in winter and most of the summer especially leaf season. They pack out, especially Saturday night. I work at the ski area on paid patrol, so am in Maggie Valley often. But if I weren’t, would drive there from Asheville to eat — the food is that good! I’d give it 6 stars if possible!

I loved this place as soon as I walked in. The food was very delicious, I loved every entrée that was on the table. The bread was delicious the best of ever tasted. The service was excellent, she very good with the service. The pricing was average, a bit much but the food was well worth it.

Disappointing, food could be better for the price and portions small. Although desert was great

Went valentine day. The food was very good. We had two problem, the main course came too quickly we were still eating our salad, which was very good and the other was the food could have been warmer, it wasn’t cold just could have been warmer. Over all we enjoyed our meal.

First time visitor, came for lunch. The place is clean the services attentive and friendly. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich which came with fries. Everything was very tasty. This is a very nice casual restaurant to have lunch or dinner in.

We are seasonal residents in Clyde NC and have been going to J Arthur’s for over 25 years, always extremely pleased with service and food. However this past May 2015 when we went we were extremely disappointed. Started with the server, who acted as if weren’t even there. My husband had to get up and ask for silverware when our salads were delivered. She never asked how our good was, if we needed more drinks or anything else, etched. From there it progressed to quality of food. Steaks were not of the quality we were used to being served there, nor were they cooked like we requested. Sides were all wrong. My husband approached the young lady(Erin) in the booth as you enter the dining area to complain and inform her of what I wrote above and to tell her we would probably never return. My husband went as far as telling her that he preferred to give her the gratuity as she had earned it more than our server. She got very upset, sincerely apologized and said she would make it right for us by deducting our dinners off the check. My husband told her that we were not trying or expecting free dinners. We just wanted to bring it to her attention and find out if management had changed. She then informed him that she was co-owner with her brother, as they took it over from their parents. As we left she gave us a monetary certificate, said she didn’t want to lose us as customers and asked us to return. We returned last week(October 2015) and it was a complete turnaround. Our server did not know ahead of time why we had the certificate. The service was outstanding, and the food was perfect. It was as we remembered it when we began going there. Erin was not there and it appeared her brother was managing that evening. We could tell he was proactively checking tables, waiting guests etc. We will definitely be returning!

My husband and I tried J Arthur’s on a recent trip through Maggie Valley. We were pleased with the entire experience. We had a wait of approximately 20 minutes. Many people chose to sit in the bar to wait on their table, although we stayed in the lobby area. The décor was very tasteful and beautifully decorated for fall. The atmosphere was very homey. Our server, Hunter, was awesome!(Ask to be seated in his area if you can — you won’t regret it!). I chose the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. My husband had ribs and he enjoyed them very much. They were very tender. The coffee was delicious! We would certainly return.

Really awesome food & the atmosphere is warm, cozy. Recommend the cheese sticks & French onion soup for appetizers. The prime rib & homemade hollandaise is great. Have to get the homemade Italian dressing & Gorgonzola cheese with your salad. Also liked the Gorgonzola pasta w chicken. Gave this 4 stars because the hostess was a little disorganized, but our waitress was perfect. Make a reservation!

Another wonderful meal. The place is so tastefully decorated for the season. It’s large inside but feels home like. They had a large party upstairs but we wouldn’t have noticed had we not seen them go up so they can handle groups as well. Full bar with a separate bar seating area away from the main dining for a more intimate supper, a few good local beers on tap and as always good quality food. We tried the fried mozzarella they brag about on the menu this time and even though this is not an Italian restaurant those were done as well as the ribs, meatloaf and steaks. For a nicer dinner in Maggie Valley you can’t go wrong with this place. Great for families too. In season, make reservations.

Very nice ambiance, very nice greeting by hostess, server was very friendly and knowledgable. Started with toast points Gouda and pimento cheese, really good! Next had prime rib(excellent) and seasonal vegetables(pretty good). All in all a really nice dinner, service was great, even though place was really hopping. I recommend 100%, give it a try

Come for the French onion soup but make sure you stay for the prime rib which is the specialty of the house. They also have a variety of savory steaks and scrumptious side dishes. Our car club group comes every year and they are always able to accommodate all 30 to 40 about us in the upstairs dining area. They are also good for small intimate groups as well. In over 10 years of eating here have only ever had one bad experience and the manager went above and beyond to make it right. Highly recommend this Maggie Valley institution.

They went above and beyond for my birthday dinner. The chef cooked up an amazing meal and they even decorated my table! Hunter was our waiter and he is hysterical you have to request him next time you go in! Great night and would recommend it to anyone passing through MV!

Ordered Basa(fish) with salad and baked potato. Fish was small but good. The salad was small with lettuce, a few slices of onion and one slice of tomato. When I ordered the baked potato, the server asked if I wanted sour cream, cheese, or bacon, to which I said, «Only the bacon on the side.» She brought all three. After completing the meal, we waited twenty minutes for the check. The amount charged was several dollars more than the menu. When questioned, she explained that the cheese, sour cream,(neither of which I ordered), and bacon were one dollar each additional. I did not see this mentioned on the menu. I cannot recall having been charged for these items at any other restaurant. Service was marginal at best. I do not expect to return to this restaurant.

Let’s start with the disorganized host/hostess check in. The host had sweated through his shirt-dude, change shirts if you sweat that as. There was a wait when we got here-no problem. There were about six open tables so I figured it wouldn’t take long. Wrong. It took approximately 20 minutes for someone to clean off those tables. Then they finally began seating everyone else. When I brought to their attention they had skipped over us they apologized and seated us. Now let’s talk food. We ordered the chips/salsa app. The fresh salsa was really good. The wings were –spicy hot if you like that. The blue cheese dressing was ranch with blue cheese crumbles on top. The shrimp and grits looked and tasted like gumbo. The prime rib was good and cooked medium rare –just right. All in all– not a place I’ll come back to– especially with the prices.

Hello Erin — I love trying new venues and other Unilocal reviews give a really good, usually unbiased, insight on the best places to go. We picked your restaurant based off of the very positive Unilocal reviews you’d already received. Power of the people :-)
