This place USED to be really good before it changed ownership over a year ago. Now, the service is awful! We waited over an hour for food. Then it came out cold. Our waitress was beyond bad. The female manager on staff has no business managing this place… hence the horrible service. Such a shame… we used to go here at least once a week. We are done… never again. Old owners opened new location on Kuykenhahl… go there… it’s fantastic & service is the best.

Where to begin on our chaparro adventure? How about Thursday, 6:00. We thought it would be busier. Better for us! — we thought. Walk up to hostess stand — wait a minute. Then 2 minutes later… Ummmm. I see plenty of servers and stuff standing around. Where’s our hostess? Ah, there she is. Sit down. Asked for our drink orders before we sit down– ummmm margarita please? What else would we order without seeing he drink menu — but that wasnt a bad thing at the time. Go ahead and order some queso for the kids at the same time. Drinks and queso are out pronto. Kids dive in. We drink up. Order our food soon thereafter. Kids chomping down on chips and cheese. Parents sucking down some drinks. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat the next, ummm WHAT? 50 damn minutes??? We’re running low on queso and drinks. Gotta seek out the waitress — remember us? That family with the little kids who will blow up any minute now? Wheres our food? Oh ok — you’ll check on it. A few minutes later — what did you order again? Crap. Shame on us — shoulda cut our losses and ran. So we repeat ourselves. It’ll only be a minute. She didnt say they lost it. I’m sure she is digging into it and it will be out in a minute Nope, nope, nope. Kids are getting restless. 10 minutes later. No food. Game over. Find a manager. Food comes our at same time. Box it up please maam. You do realize you screwed up right? We’re not looking for a handout. Just a simple«sorry» will do. nope nope nope. Give us the bill please. We will eat it at home. Do you have something to hold our salad dressing? Thaaanks. Pay the bill. Head out the door. Kids are in meltdown mode by this time. Head home. Vent a little. Get home. Set up dinner. Still warm. Dive in, but really we’re loaded up on chips, queso and margarita by now. Hey-wheres my ranch dressing at? Son-of-a… Will we be back? Nope nope nope.

My family comes here pretty much every week. It’s standard Tex-Mex, and not all that cheap for what you get. Still, the atmosphere is good, and they have huge TVs showing sports on all the time. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and they never balk as we walk in in groups of 6, 8, 10, 20. We’ve never had to wait an unreasonable amount of time for drinks or food, and they keep the chips and water refilled. The atmosphere is casual and just noisy enough that you don’t feel like your family is too loud, but not so loud you can’t hear your companions(like the Pappasito’s on Airtex for example). We have gone here probably 20 – 30 times and will keep going back.

This was the sorriest service I have ever had. Not once was my drink filled($ 2.45 for one sprit) they took forever and when our food did come the lady just threw it in the table with out a word and walked off. My drink was empty the whole time, Our chips were never refilled, Our order was wrong, service was not there, food was gross 56 bucks for 3 to eat gross grease filled food… Never again well I eat here.

Love, Love, Love this restaurant! The food is so good and authentic. The margaritas are wonderful and the customer service is always great! Yes servings are a good size and perfect to split. My family always get fajitas to go! Fajitas for 2 feeds 4 – 5 adults. Yummy!

Excellent service and great food! Read reviews before we came here and I concur with the reviews. Will definitely come back and try the rest of the menu.

Good food at a good price. Green Sauce and Queso were outstanding as was my fajita beef stuffed Chimichanga(deep fried perfectly and a lot of meat). My brother had the Taco Salad lunch special. He couldn’t finish it. I will return here.

We had heard it was a great place to eat Mexican food, it is not. at least this location is to expensive and poorly served. we went for lunch, even though it was 2pm the place was dead, only 1 more table and us. We order from the Lunch menu the fajitas and let me tell you something you can only get 2 tacos out of that plate. And who places beans and rice on a sizzler plate? beans were burned out and tasted like can beans, Oh and the rice, extra dried because of the heat of the plate. For $ 10.99 a plate you expect more, also they didn’t taste good at all, they tasted like they came from a bag purchase at HEB. they serve you 4 tortillas for 2 people. The only good tasting thing there was the Green salsa. not coming back ever.

Again, I really went back between 3 and 4 stars, but ultimately, there was only one notable item(the chimichanga), so 3 it is. Before coming here, I read the Unilocal reviews, and noticed everyone dogging on the service. I thought to myself, «it’s not 5 star dining, how bad could it be?» It actually really was poor service, and I’m not usually picky about that. When we were there, it was totally empty and quiet, yet the server treated us like an inconvenience. The chips are just standard, thin corn chips. The salsa has NO spice level at all. There is a creamy green, totally mild, and a roasted red, totally mild. If you like mild salsa, this would be your spot! Unfortunately, I love spicy. We asked if they had any spicier salsa, to which the guy did bring us out a small bowl of something they called atomic sauce, and then charged us for it! The atomic sauce was weak as well, just a mix of dried chiles and salt really. For my dish, the chicken was cooked fine, topped with cheese, jalapeños, onions, and tomatoes. The jalapeños were my favorite part. My husband got a chimichanga filled with fajita meat and covered with gravy. I will admit that his dish was very tasty, but anything that is likely 2000 calories probably is tasty! Here’s my main point of confusion: the sign says it is mex-mex, not tex-mex. This place is your stereotypical tex-mex joint from the salsa, to the menu items. Either way, El Chaparro is good, but not mind-blowing. If you like mild, this will be your jam. Don’t believe that it is mex-mex, because it is far from authentic.

I brought my fiancé and our lil girl here to eat for the first time. The fajitas were great, margaritas were the best I’ve had. And the service we received by our waitor was excellent! If you decide to come, ask for Eric the waitor, a funny Hispanic gentleman that made us and our 2 year old laugh.

Lunch twice Dinner once, and I’ll be back. I feel a little guilty not trying many of the other Mexican restaurants in the immediate area… but these guys are SOGOOD!: Service is prompt and very polite, food is predictable but wonderful. It is as if they’re doing something extra, but simple. Everyone; bartender, waiters, hostess, chef give 110%, ALLTHETIME. Management should be giving lessons.

In the mood for something Caliente… Sat promptly. Chips & salsa BAM… On the table(by the way — love the fresh cold red salsa) …followed by BAM… waters and a special of the day — Bloody Mary(good but not the best — was a decent no more, no less $ 3 drink) followed by BAM… a beautiful frozen reg margarita with pretty fresh fruit garnish… We’re golden now. Our server, Edmundo and all his teammates(including manager) were awesome… A colleague came out to the outdoor seating area we were enjoying n turned on tv /football game for us(without being asked to) … Thank you ;-) Supreme Beef Burrito was flavorful(although large enough to serve 2+) and the Tacos Camperos were hot and spicy as promised — prepared with simple goodness(not covered in anything. But a hot fresh tortilla) — the pico de gallo — superb! Only constructive comment — charro beans were not memorable. Needed something … smokey, bacon or ?? added to give it a kick. Thank you for great afternoon/experience … Now time for a siesta! Ha ha

Food is pretty good but the service was terrible and the wait staff seems to dislike their job.

I arrived around 7 minutes before happy hour was over but their clock on the wall was 10 minutes fast. My waitress decided to argue with me about it instead of serving me especially after I showed her my iPhone time. Anyway I just ordered my usual ice tea. For my entrée I ordered the stuffed jalapeño with cheese and chicken. I had to send it back because it was cold inside. Second time it came back it was thoroughly fried and hot. My waitress ignored me and never came by except for the bill. I had to ask busboys for tea refills and extra chips and salsa. Waitress was worthless and needs training. Food was good not great. Probably would go back if I was in the immediate area. Lots of parking, no problem. Unilocal Review #352

The staff is extremely friendly, and the food is amazing, I highly recommend the Durango fajitas or the sampler from the appetizers section. The price if fair and there margaritas and fantastic! Highly highly highly recommend!

El Chaparro’s is a good place to eat but the last few times me and my family went there we weren’t impressed. They changes the sauce a couple of times for the chips. The cheese sauce was good. I have had a couple different meals here I really like the cheese quesadilla that is always good but it seems that El Chaparro’s is going down hill.

I have been going here for a few years, and the food is pretty good. Last night I ordered a margarita with my dinner. It was the weakest one ever. and at $ 8.00 it was my last one there. The restaurant was rather empty for a Friday night, maybe the weak over priced drinks were noticed by others too. I sure wish they had Unilocaled about it. There are a few other Tex-Mex places close by that have as good food(maybe a little better price) and much, much better margarita. The service was good last night, that’s why I gave two stars. I think the servers could do better where there will be more business.
