Even if this place is directly in your way, don’t stop!!! The extra dry chicken doesn’t get a half star. The less than mediocre chopped beef couldn’t get up to 2 stars. The cold slaw and green beans were fine but I came for BBQ. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

I get their Brisket about once a week. It’s the best. You get large portions but take it home to eat later.

First visit 12⁄8. It’s the old hickory hollow. Review is on cfs. Overall pretty good. Meat was tender. Gravy good, and decent mashers. One drawback was it had a slightly greasy flavor to it. I think it was time to change the grease. If in area again, would probably re visit.

Nothing to go out of your way for. My brother and I went here during a crafts fair in magnolia a few weeks ago, figured we would give it a shot since the options where limited for the area. Nice concept and friendly staff. My brother had a platter of smoked meats, I had the chicken fried steak which was stupid big! However we both said the same thing after the first bite… ehhhh. It’s ok… very underwhelming flavor from the food. We did the standard try some of mine routine. … ehhh just no seasoning anywhere to found. Gravy was a ok but way too sparse for a CFS the size of manhole cover. Smoked meat was ok but fell short on flavor and the dedication that you want from slow cooked meats. I would give it 3 stars, but the price point was way too high for the quality of the product.

Another hit and miss experience in Magnolia, this time with more misses than hits. The good parts were the sausage, which was tasty even though it was definitely a commercial bulk product, and the grilled zucchini, which was the best thing any of us had. Oh, and the barbecue sauce was really good, too. Other than that: the brisket had a nice flavor, though not much smoke, but was not at all tender. It felt more like roast beef. Ribs were bland and fatty, with an odd tang from the hickory. Not a great match. Macaroni and cheese was completely flavorless, with the lifeless«cheese» sauce matching the lifeless, overcooked noodles. Onion rings were soft and oily. But the worst thing of all was the chicken fried steak. Tough, under seasoned meat was the least of the problems. The batter was powerfully bitter, rancid even. Completely inedible. The menu was huge, but I don’t see the need to bother sampling any more of it.

Previously called«Hickory Hollow,» the name of this restaurant recently changed to Hickory Corral. I haven’t been to the place since the name changed and have to sadly admit that I was very disappointed in my «lean» beef stuffed baked potato. Not only have the portions gotten smaller since the name change(same price, of course), but I was also given less meat in my potato. I usually am able to eat the meal for 2 meals but today the portion was small and there was barely any meat in the potato. I’m very very sad to say that the«lean» beef was very tough. There wasn’t much lean about it. Sadly I don’t think I will be returning to this location. Very clean place, great atmosphere, love the music – but small, crappy portions on the meat for the same price as it was when it was good really turns me off. It makes me sad to leave such a bad review for a place that I once bragged about to all my family and friends. I hope they are able to make a comeback! The price of beef isn’t helping anyone in the restaraunt world.

I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it came with a beef gravy, not a white gravy. It was ok, but a disappointment none the less. The salad bar was fine, everything fresh. The French Fries were not much different from any fast food place. The drink was big but it should be for over $ 2.00 in price. Atmosphere was Texas rustic, very nice but was ruined by the horrible music they were playing which was totally out of character with the rustic TX. décor. For those of you who haven’t been there, you order when you first go in at the counter and then pay there. Or at least try, I could not understand the girl working there. If you order the salad, make sure she gives you a bowl for it. She told me that they would call the number on the ticket but a guy brought out the order and he had to stop at all the tables and ask them what their number was, a tent like other restaurants use would solve that one. All in all it was not bad, but not as good as I was expecting. Will I go back? Yes, to try the BBQ next time, the Chicken Fried Steak is out because of the gravy and the lack of a biscuit served with the order.

Meh. Extremely middle of the road. I’ve been here several times giving it chance after chance to impress me, but to no avail. Meat tends to be a little tough, and the sauces are overly tangy.

Have been here twice… will not come back! Paid double to get a meat baked potato… had to search for the meat! Maybe a spoonful on it… and that is mostly fat and the sauce has very little flavor. There is a reason this place has hardly any people eating here during lunch and dinner. Don’t waste your money! Go to the BBQ hut! If they are out(cause they are that good) drive to the shell station in Waller!

This place has its roots in Hickory Hollow in Houston on Heights Boulevard near Washington Avenue. Same great taste, same menu, huge portions. I forget the name of the combination plate I got, but it’s the«whatever is too large to eat in one sitting» combo. This one came with chicken fried steak, ribs, sliced beef, and sausage. I had a side salad, which we all know, reduces calories. So, I ordered a sweet tea give the salad some more competition. The entrée was about $ 14.95 and I couldn’t have been happier with the meal.

I dont get out to this location very often, and did not know the name had changed until i went to leave a review. I was happy with my food, it was good, but there was still room for improvement.

Stopped for lunch on trip. Husband and I both got chicken fried steak. I got a salad and baked Potatoe. Husband got salad and onion rings. The food was good. They had the good Ranch dressing I like, not the bottled kind. I ordered the small chicken fried steak and it was still huge. The only thing I didn’t like was the metal plates the food was served on. When I tried to cut my steak the plate would wobble and slide. And, the décor could use some updating. It’s an old country kitchen décor which is fine, but the ugly gaudy plastic table clothes have to go. Lol Overall, good experience and good food!

I spent $ 13 on about $ 7 worth of very mediocre BBQ. I only tried this place again because they changed the name. Surprise surprise, same crappy food.
