I’ve used
to create a number of parts in the last few years. I almost always get what I expect and the price is comparable to local machine shops. Their software is easy to use and my ancient PC has no trouble with it., the only catch is that it doesn’t do «Real» 3D. Basically, it lets you extrude a 2D shape and then work with that, but it’s really what is sometimes referred to as 2.5D. It’s more than I usually need so I’m very happy with it.

Micro Logic Corp does business online as
. I’m in the process of designing some custom machined parts from them (eMachineShop). I haven’t finished the transaction, but I’m quite impressed with the company so far.
Pros:
— Clean enough website to understand how to navigate it
— Relatively easy to use CAD software
— Instant price quoting *once your part is designed* (I believe they offer other quoting formats if you want to call them during business hours and get a more «consultative» quote, instead of a precise one)
— Fairly wide range of materials choices
— Plenty of detail control over the machining process (just like you’d expect from a CNC system, there are lots of configs).
— Reasonably good help instructions for their software are posted on the website.
Cons:
— Their software is Windows-​only (no Mac or Linux as far as I can tell, nor did they choose to do it as a web-​tool, it is a downloadable Windows application).
— They don’t accept Google SketchUp (free edition) files. For a DIY-​grade online shop I’d expect that (yes, I realize you can buy SketchUp Pro for $ 500 and export to some more standard CAD formats that they do support, but we’re not talking about an enterprise-​targeted product here).
Possible cons:
— I’ve seen a few posts online about potential Quality Control issues. Since I haven’t received my parts yet I’m not sure about that.
