So I have a confession… I have lived in Goochland since 2002 and I have never eaten here! I’ve had friends that worked here through high school and I’ve heard people talk about it many times, but never tried it. Honestly, I’m a bit biased when it comes to barbecue, and I’m convinced that us North Carolinians do it best. It was this high opinion that prevented me from trying Virginia barbecue from many places, including here. I finally decided to come here today after looking at their menu online and seeing their $ 5.50($ 5.67 with tax) barbecue sandwich. I figured, «If it’s awful at least I only paid about five bucks». I walked in around 5PM and was promptly greeted by the young smiling hostess. There were other people around — families and older couples – who seemed to be enjoying their meals as they had many times before. After a brief wait, I placed my order and asked the waitress for some advice. I ended up ordering the pork barbecue sandwich as intended with the hush puppies. After about 10 minutes, my order was ready piping hot and fresh. The barbecue was served on a plain old White bun, but the meat itself have plenty of smoke and was very tender. The only thing it lacked was salt and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was because of their elderly clientele. When their house made sauce was added, it was actually tasty. The hush puppies were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside with real bits of corn. It was really good. Though the barbecue slightly disappointing, the overall experience was definitely worth four stars. I will be back.
