The Makanda Inn was a great place to stay, beautiful and comfortable accommodations in the middle of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. Very close to many wineries and the laid back town of Makanda, you will enjoy this Inn. My wife and I stayed in the lodge for two nights and Heather was great. Heather gave us food and winery recommendations and made outstanding breakfasts for us. The Inn is also constructed in an environmentally friendly manner with strawbale insulation. All around a very nice place to stay in Southern Illinois. Also, we saw some little lizards running around outside the Inn, so that was a bonus!

Wow! An unexpected treasure. A little off the beaten path, quiet, luxurious and very quiet. Heather is welcoming and delightful. The rooms are spacious and very nice. Great charm. And the breakfast. Awesome! Looking forward to going back.

We stayed at the inn on 2 seperate occasions and had a WONDERFUL experience both times! Janelle was UNBELIEVABLE, and Karen and her husband were wonderful as well! It is absolutely gorgeous, food is fantastic, we were treated like royalty! The bedding is like a DREAM… EVERYTHING is with 15 – 20 minutes… the price is AWESOME for what you get. Up north, this place would be over $ 300 a night… I highly recomend this dreamy relaxing inn!!!

Don’t know where an earlier reviewer was staying, but it wasn’t the Makanda Inn. Only 15 minutes from Giant City State Park and $ 109, not $ 150, this Inn has a lot going for it! The bedrooms are spacious, beds comfy, towels luxurious, and real coffee(not little pods or packets), available in the bedrooms. Breakfast of omelets, fresh fruit, and Belgian waffles with both bananas foster sauce and homemade chocolate sauce was absolutely delicious. The Inn is within walking distance of the little village of Makanda(great local art shop and crystal shop among others along the boardwalk there), and within walking distance of a great hiking trail. This Inn has it all! My group of 5 people booked the whole Inn and also asked the innkeeper to prepare dinner for us. The food was amazing. Worth a trip for a short stay or a long one. Wildflowers here are beginning to bloom(and there are more species here than the Smokey mountains). This is the place to be!

Don’t be fooled by the snazzy website. Isn’t the idea of a bed and breakfast that the people working there are super helpful, personable, and take good care of you? Despite being only 2 of the 4 guests in the inn, they treated us like shit. When I made the reservation they said the inn was located 15 minutes from the park we wanted to visit, but it turned out to be almost 2HOURSAWAY. Plus the innkeeper didn’t even have directions to the park or a map. The inn-keeper Janelle was banging on our door repeatedly at check-out time and demanding that we get the hell out. Otherwise, she didn’t really speak to us while we were there. Sure, it’s a really nice looking place, but if I’m going to pay $ 150 to have a bed and get treated like shit, I’d at least expect a mini bar.
