If you love sushi… And you live Malibu… You’ll love this quaint little spot. Great ambiance with outdoor and indoor seating. Sushi bar if you wanna watch the chefs making your rolls! Food tastes great and prices aren’t bad for Malibu. It’s a fun place to meet someone as there isn’t a lot of noise. Highly recommend.

Sushi was the best in town, excellent quality. Rainbow crunch roll is to die for. Surf and turf was amazing! Brianna was the nicest waitress ever and had great recommendations! This place rocks! This may become a weekly putting for me.

My favorite items here are the spicy edamame and sautéed veggies. So good! Sushi is quality food and I think pricing matches up fairly well for Malibu. I like the outdoor seating when I come here. Private, comfortable and very relaxing. Service is on point. Good spot for lunch… have yet to try dinner.

Bui Sushi is fairly hidden in this center but is a true find for the sushi lovers out there. It feels totally separated from the bustle outside. The interior is small so expect a wait on busy evenings. The cocktail menu has several good options and the beer selection goes beyond your typical Kirin/Asahi/Sapporo trio. But the best part of Bui Sushi is exactly what you would want, the food! The pieces are fresh and delicious, the menu has alternative items like beef and tempura, and the list of rolls leaves you wishing you had room for another. We tried the soft shell crab and my kiddos made us order a second it was so good. The Crunchy Rainbow could be the best roll I’ve had in LA. And there are several other rolls on this menu which could compete for that distinction. Prices are steep but it’s well worth every penny.

Good food! A lot of people wait to sit and the tables but sitting at the sushi bar is my favourite. The sushi chef is right in front of you so you can place your order directly with them and watch them make sushi, and they’re also fun to talk to!

My boyfriend and I went to try bui for the first time. It was delicious… and then the next evening the 14th at 1am… I texted him telling him I didn’t stop vomiting, 3 minutes later he said the same thing. Food poisoning… thanks bui… I lost 6 pounds in one evening and called out of work for 2 days. Never going back!!!

Love this place and the food was very delicious! Love the yellowtail sashimi, spicy edamame and the spicy tuna rice cake! I only gave it four star because of the price… It’s a bit pricy for so little food they give you.

This place is really good but also really expensive. The fish is fresh and the service is excellent. The only thing I would change is ordering the sashimi, it’s great fish but small portions, the toro was about 5 thin slices for $ 35. If you like rolls, they have great rolls– surf & turf, spring roll, 27 mile roll and moonlight roll.

Well, since I’m a complete sushi lover & have had the best of the best– I’d say this is pretty good but not my #1. Great quality & great service. The setting is great & the music just gives you overall Malibu beach vibes, which I very much enjoyed. I will definitely return for another sushi date!

The spicy edamame was different and delicious. Service was excellent and quick, which is unusual for any place in California. Spicy tuna roll and yellowtail were delicious.

Part of the review is based not on my love for the place, but for how much my kids and grandparents love it. I’ve only been once. Seems to me that the focus here should be on the rolls and not the sushi. It usually feels like a slight tip off when you ask for recommendations on which sushi they recommend and the answer is everything. My kids love love the Malibu Sunset roll which I get. It has a nice sweetish sauce on it and the mango in the middle is super nice. I also tried a snapper sushi, which was nice. I prefer the rice warm but the fish was nice. I really really liked the cooked string beans, kids loved them too. Also tried the miso soup which won’t blow you away, but more flavorful than many.

What a great Restraunt!!! I went there last night with my family for my sister’s birthday! First off, great atmosphere(then again you’re in malibu, you expect that.) We sat outside and loved the ambiance. There are great lounging couches you can sit on while you enjoy the amazing sushi that Bui has to offer. But it wasn’t just the sushi that didn’t disappoint, it was the service as well. Our waitress was very accommodating and you got the feeling that you wanted to be there. Whether she knew that she was going to get a good tip or not, she definitely helped herself to one of the best tips of her career. My mom can be a little corky and so she brought a cake from the store to have in the restraunt… Trust me when I say that we(my family) were extremely embarrassed, but apparently the waitress was not as she brought out plates and utensils for us to use and then put candles on the cake AND then took the cake to the back and had the chef cut the cake for us. This sort of great service is unfortunately a rare art… But good news that art is still preserved in Bui Sushi! Go and enjoy and you will not be dissatisfied!

Food is delicious but restaurant is very unsanitary. An employee from an adjacent building tied their dog up on the bush that juts up against the outdoor eating patio. The dog then proceeded to jump between the gates and jump on the benches and tables. Further, the employee who I’m assuming is the dog owner brought the dog out a bowl of water and set it on the table where people eat. Completely disgusting. I asked the restaurant employees to remove the dog but they did nothing. Where is the health department to stop this??? I’ve included a photo of the incident.

Amazing Pear Martini! Perfection. Sushi: Spicy Tuna… a little bit fishy but fresh. California roll and shrimp tempura — great. Staff: very nice.

Sushi excellent! Really really bad service( We were waiting in a line for 30min, and it was free tables also. They just kinda lazy, and easy going, doesn’t matter how many customers waiting. Since we ordered food, it’s been around 25min to get it. Maybe they need more workers for a weekend, or smth else. Please work on it!

Went here for dinner with a couple of friends. Highly recommend having a reservation! Thankfully we did, so no wait. Service was OK at best, had to ask for refills for water and drinks, actually we had to flag her down as she whisked by our table. The food was great, had the spicy edamame, miso soup, eggplant crisps, Malibu Sunset and the Full Moon Roll; all of which was amazing. The only thing we weren’t crazy about were the sautéed mushrooms, way too much salt. At the end, we all got our checks and no pen. So I has to fish for one in my bag. Overall, good food and worth going back and definitely sit outside if you can. Better atmosphere and not as cramped.

This place overall is good but not great. The sushi itself is PRETTY good, nothing to write home about but nothing I would turn my head at either. Honestly it was really just average. The service was mediocre at best. Our waitress was more interested in socializing with her friends at another table + flirting with the bros sitting next to us at the bar than bothering to ask for our drink orders. When she did manage to get to us, she was nice enough, though she never refilled our glasses once. Overall, we may return mainly because it’s not too far from where we live. Oh, and the people-watching is a solid 5⁄5 stars :)

I came to Bui Sushi for a work lunch and I swear, I normally don’t take pictures of my food when I’m with coworkers. But the roll I got was so pretty, I couldn’t resist! Everyone else got their lunch sushi special or sushi salad, and they came out really quickly. I had to wait another ten minutes after everyone else’s food came for my Malibu Sunset roll — with mango! It was so pretty, and definitely delicious. Loved the texture that the mango and tuna on the inside added to the salmon on top. It was actually the same price as my coworkers’ lunch specials, so I didn’t feel bad ordering something a bit more exciting. We also had their miso and edimame, which were good — nothing special. But I’d come back to try more of their specialty rolls. Final Verdict: Decent prices for Malibu, easy free parking in the lot, and good service. Only problem was the long wait for the specialty roll. But I’ll forgive them since it was beautiful and delicious!
