My experience with the cal-fresco truck was very different than other reviewers. We encountered the truck at Malibu Wines on a Friday night. Malibu Wines is an excellent place, BTW. The truck was trying to get ready at 5:30 and offered grilled chicken tacos and«cupcakes». My wife ordered a cupcake that turned out to be an AM/PM Otis Spunkmeyer muffin. She ate it anyway but thought it tasted very store bought and processed. My chicken tacos took 20 minutes to cook, were small and I thought the chicken was too chewey and the ingredients were nothing special. If you come to Malibu Wines ravenous, yeah try the Cart, otherwise stop by any nice place and bring your own food. May I recommend the Agoura Hills Urbane Café just north of the 101 at the kanan st exit? Very good sandwiches.

We came across the Cal-Fresco Truck whilst doing a wine tour of the Malibu Area. They were parked adjacent to Malibu Wines. It was a perfect setup because there was little in the way of food available otherwise and they had the place all to themselves. While we were not overly impressed with the wines we sampled at Malibu Wines, being that GF and I are unabashed Food Truck chasers, having this excellent truck nearby was a welcome and unexpected surprise. Excellent food! Very well made with high quality ingredients. –The short rib tacos were great. Very flavorful, not fatty. –Truffle mac and cheese was excellent. I’m a huuuuge mac and cheese fan and this one hit the spot! –Ham and Cheese Panini was very good. I’m not much of a ham guy due to the high salt content so this was my least favorite thing, but it was very good nonetheless. –Flatbread was also good, kind of like a super fresh tasting mini pizza, with sprigs of basil, mozzarella and a sweet tomato sauce on thin crispy/chewy bread. All in all, the perfect fit for a blustery, rainy and cold afternoon. Kudos to the Cal-Fresco Truck for dishing up the perfect menu at the perfect time.

Bf and I took his parents(in from out of town) wine tasting at Malibu Family Wines, and we were thrilled to see a TRUCK when we walked into the otherwise food-free outdoor wine tasting area! One look at the menu and we were simultaneously planning food in our heads. Woohoo! The food came up relatively fast, and the super sweet lady brought it all to us: Truffle Mac & Cheese($ 3): cheesy, rich, melty, warm, yummy! Short Rib Tacos($ 6): 2 soft tacos with a generous helping of tender short ribs and salsa fresca. these could have used a little something creamy, like guac or sour cream or cheese, and a little salt — but the serving size was nice and the quality of the ingredients good. Flatbread with Mozzarella and Basil($ 6): this margherita pizza-like flatbread had nice grill marks on the bottom, and was warm and chewy and tasty. They cut it in 4 slices, with waxed paper in between, which was thoughtful — but the cheese stuck to the paper and when I went to peel it off, the cheese came off with the paper!:( Chicken and Ham Panini with Goat Cheese and Fig Jam($ 5): a good sized pressed sammich, with a grilled piece of chicken and ham slices. The saltiness of the meats were great with the creamy goat cheese and sweet figgy jam. For $ 20, the four of us had a nice little snacky selection. The lady working the truck said that they are at The Brig on Abbott Kinney on First Fridays, and they will be here at Malibu Wines on Friday and Saturday nights when they start having live music. I liked the food, and service was friendly. I don’t know if I’d seek them out, but I’d definitely eat it again if I saw them!
