From the start, we had reservations and still waited 45 min and the hostess informed us they made an error, waited at the bar and Ken doll the bartender brought one of us a drink and walked away, fifteen minuets later we flagged him down and he said he would be back in a moment yet fifteen minuets later he was still gone! Once we were seated we sat twenty five minuets and got the attention of a server who promptly informed us that she was not our server but would take our drink order, fifteen minuets later our drinks arrived with ‘our’ server. Thirty minuets after our food order was taken our server asked if we were ready to see the dessert menu(no kidding)! The food was marginal and not worth the wait. They should have killed Coogies long ago and walked. Not worth your time!

The menu here is really good — makes it so hard to choose! I went with the Asian salad bowl and it was huge! The dressing was very light but there was a lot of it at the bottom on the bowl. Not that much shrimp but otherwise it was delicious! The seasonal beets appetiser was insanely good! The cocktails sounded great so if I come back I’ll definitely try one.

This review is for 6÷8÷2016 An absolutely wonderful random find along the PCH freeway! We came in about 11am, so we were hoping/looking for a restaurant that had breakfast and lunch choices, and this menu did NOT disappoint. Everything on their menu looked ridiculously good, it was very hard for the three of us to make up our mind. We ordered an Ollo scramble and a breakfast sandwich as well as scallops off the lunch menu. The high quality organic food was obvious, the do not skimp here and our meals were beautiful and delicious. Love, love, loved the roasted fingerling potatoes that came with our dishes, a great alternative to what other breakfast places do with their bland, fried potatoes. I loved their fresh juice choices, vegetarian options and just plain awesome offerings. The service was stellar: we were treated so kindly. Everyone from the woman behind the bar who came out to seat us on the patio, to the guys serving us. Gracious, attentive and prompt. Menu knowledge and accommodations for little additions/changes to our order were made with pleasure. Cannot say enough good things about our service! Our water glasses were always full, and dishes cleared in perfect timing. Best service we have had in a LONG time! This is how it’s done, people. We were wowed! This is our new go-to spot when in Malibu, I cannot wait to bring family and friends here. Those Meyer lemon ricotta pancakes are on my radar, can’t wait. We will be back often! Thank you for such a beautiful meal.

Relaxed, open atmosphere. The food was ok. Maybe this is a place that tastes better with an adult beverage. Got the hummus place, brussel sprouts with pancetta, fire roasted corn, cheese pizza, and penne bolognese. Hummus was fine, with a nice little variety of toppings. Brussel sprouts were the best. Not soggy but tender and crisp. Fire roasted corn was a mess. The spiced coating on it was nice but too much and the corn was over cooked. Don’t order this when you’re on a date. It’s a mess. Cheese pizza was really cheesy but tasty. Penne bolognese was very meaty. The Italian in our group liked it. The patio was nice and they allowed dogs on leash to sit with their owners. The staff were great. Seemed like they really helped one another out. A side note about the bathroom… they need to remodel. It’s old and dingy.

Delicious food! I had the lunch special, steak with 2 sides(red rice & tabouleh). The red rice was okay, tabouleh was tasty. But the steak was just uhhh-MAZING! The restaurant is in a shopping center so there is enough parking available. Right next to a Starbucks too, which is a plus! Thanks Ollo for the great lunch! Will be coming back again.

In case you don’t fancy reading, I’ll summarize to kick it off… 3 stars is the right rating for this place because all of the food is ok, only ok, and the service is good. We had a variety of items in my group. Of the ones I tried, I can say the Hawaiian pizza was my personal favorite. The«wagyu» burger was only ok, and I’m usually a HUGE burger lover. The fries were ok, as well, but don’t opt for the truffle fries, as the standard fries with ketchup are better. The grilled corn on the cob is also ok, but right across the street at Café Habana you can get a grilled corn on the cob that blows this one away. One person in my group had the skirt steak and he too agreed that his food was«ok.» To finish it all off, we got the chocolate cake and their waffle dessert(this one wasn’t on the menu). The chocolate cake was, as expected, only ok. One of my group even said«it seems like it’s missing something.» I agreed. As for the waffle dessert, being a self proclaimed waffle aficionado, I was thoroughly disappointed because I had hopes of this dish being the 1 that would be better than merely ok. It wasn’t. Bottom line, if you’re like my group and decided to go to dinner on the fly on a busy day and Café Habana and Taverna Tony are all booked up, it’s not a bad choice to go here. It’s just ok.

Love the vibe of this restaurant. Attentive staff and super fast with their food, this place has a beautiful upscale island beach feel. Although there are no views of the ocean, you don’t miss it because the vibe indoors is just beautiful. This place has breakfast till 3pm on weekends and lunch anytime after 11am. So many options that your mind will spin. Took us nearly fifteen mins to decide on what to narrow down to order. We got roasted cauliflower — which is an appetizer by the way. It’s massive but does not taste as impressive as it looks. I would try the Brussels sprouts next time. My husband ordered the meat ball sub wrapped in pizza dough and he loved it. We got the chia pudding to share which had the perfect amount of sweetness without being a sugar overload. It was quite delicious. I also got an egg white omelette with the three chili sauce which was spicy and delicious. Potatoes were insane and I highly recommending getting their plethora of sauces on the side to change the taste from each bite. A simple egg white veggie omelet was transformed by the different sauces that I ordered. This place is a great addition to the Malibu brunch scene with good, delicious and clean flavors that pack a punch!

Tucked away in a little strip mall right off the ocean is this wonderful place! Great casual atmosphere with extremely delicious food and amazing service. We had an 8pm reservation, and the place was definitely busy. Once we sat down I asked the waiter what the gluten-free options were(I am extremely gluten intolerant) and she said that they don’t have a gluten-free menu but that they could make almost any menu item gluten-free, within reason. Usually I shy away from places like this, but she assured me that the kitchen was experienced in cooking gluten-free, so I placed my trust in her, and I am SO glad I did! I ordered their filet special with greens and demi-glacé and it was absolutely incredible. Cooked to perfection and a great portion size. My husband(not gluten-free) ordered the Quarter Chicken with citrus chimmichuri and arugula with a loaded baked potato on the size. He said the chicken was very well seasoned and the sauce was delicious, but the real star was the baked potato. Perhaps twice baked, loaded with butter, cheese, chives, sour cream, and all those delicious goodies. He savored every last bite of it! Loved the décor and the atmosphere — seemed good for families as well as date nights and business dinners. Ample parking and close to most everything in Malibu!

I have been meaning to try this place, we bumbled in hungry here after tough day culminating in a meeting around the corner. Loved the bartender Matthew, very positive guy. Hostess forgot to seat us, but once we were sat, we enjoyed our food. For me, everything is a bit heavy in oil(I had asked for not a lot of oil drizzled, and my plate was drenched), that said, the flavors were terrific. I like the environment, it hits the balance between easy elegance and family restaurant. We had the hummus app which was yum, and the fried zucchini which was.fried. I had the sea bass and he had the wagu hamburger which he really enjoyed, but the fries were a little limp. I think the sous chef was off his game, but again, the flavor balance was delicious. my dish was flavorful. I can say I love this place. very reasonable pricing and wide selection of eats collected from local purveyors and growers. great looking pastas and pizzas, must try another time. the bathroom was disgusting. one stall was drenched, ew, I really wish I did not have flip flops on, and the other needed to be fixed. It was pretty bad, but plumbing in the Bu has never been pretty so you can’t knock em too hard. one thing though that stood out about this place, besides the thoughtful menu options, was that the servers cared about their job and their customers.

This is a nice place for lunch — they serve a lot of different food and on the week end they serve brunch-breakfast till 4pm. I went for a raw tuna plate with avocado — very fresh but not super feeling(I think it was a starter but the menu listed that in the main). My husband got the salmon with vegetables, again very fresh and light. The breakfast plates of our neighbors looked massive, maybe we should have go for that. Good thing is that basically there’s something for everyone, small appetite to big ones. Nice Ice-tea. A very good place to go after going to the beach.

Walked in around 4pm on a Thursday, not crowded at all which was pretty cool. We sat at the bar and the first thing we immediately noticed was how cool the décor was and how nice the bar seating is. Comfortable chairs and a really nice counter top. Happy hour from 3 – 6 is amazing. Beer for $ 5, cocktails for $ 7, and apps for $ 5. What more do I want? Well, I want it to taste good. And oh man! They delivered. Hummus, zucchini sticks, spicy sausage calzone, and the seared sea scallops were divine. But what totally made this place was our bartender Ross. He’s hilarious and an awesome server. Pretty cool dude as well. We’ll be coming back for sure and hoping to hang with Ross again! They were also playing 70’s funk radio which was the cherry on top for me.

A great Saturday night friends and family place — modern, open, natural light environment, with healthy and inventive Mediterranean cuisine. Wonderful wines by the glass — had Laetitia Pinot Noir, while wifey went for the freshly made«Digestive» juice — kale, apple, cucumber, mint. The avocado hummus with raw veggies is a great starter; I followed with wild salmon linguine and wifey had the wild herb salmon bowl, a stellar mix of salmon, farro, pomegranate seeds, various vegetables and greens. Finished with cranberry custard tart — light, just the right amount of sweetness. Moderately priced, nice people watching, friendly atmosphere and very very nice wait staff. We will surely return!

I love this place and always have! This restaurant is in Malibu so who can complain. The restaurant is located in a strip center with Ralphs as the anchor store, parking is never an issue and the never has been no matter what time I arrive. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, modern/comfort is how I would describe it. There is indoor or outdoor seating and they did a nice job by adding the lattice and jasmine to create privacy for the outdoors. Today I ordered a spicy bloody mary, steak and poached eggs and my daughter had the full order of french toast. My steak and eggs were cooked to perfection, the yolk of the poached egg was not super runny and the steak was perfectly cooked and sliced(I loved that they sliced the meat). My daughter had the french toast which was not too bready, sweet and the perfect amount(2 slices cut into 4th’s). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal anytime of the day as they have always been consistent with quality of food. Enjoy!

O-M-G! Ollo in Malibu was recommended to me by a friend who used to live in the area, as having the best breakfast around, and damnit, this could actually be the best breakfast around. It was a half hour drive for me to get here from where I was staying, but it was well worth it. Super friendly staff, a great atmosphere and absolutely awesome food. This was the best breakfast I had for a long time. The place is totally let down by its awful coffee, but their coffee seems to suit American standards and tastes, so it’s not particularly bad considering it’s in the USA. But whoa, just don’t have coffee. They have plenty of smoothies and other alternatives. And the food omg the food! This is a definite go-to place for me next time I am in the LA vicinity. I don’t think I can visit the area without a trip to Ollo’s from now on.

Came here with my parents after a Sunday afternoon drive up to the Malibu Canyon. Nice place in a strip plaza right off the PCH. Lots of free parking. Bar area was nice, patio, wood oven pizza, and a very nice selection of food on the menu. I ordered filet mignon kabobs off the lunch menu and they came with 2 sides. The kabobs were ok but I would’ve preferred a little more tender. Mom and Dad ordered Asian Shrimp Bowl salad and Sea Bass. They both enjoyed their meal as well. I recommend this place. I’m sure it’s packed for dinner on Fri/Sat night. John was our server and he was very attentive and personable.

Nice Mediterranean place across from Pepperdine campus. Friendly and helpful staff. Wild salmon linguine was great. I hate eating alone in nicer restaurants, but the staff made me feel welcome. Most patrons at the bar were clearly Malibu regulars, but I did not feel excluded. Was a bit crunched for time as I was attending a performance on campus and the staff made sure by mail was prepared and DVDs quickly so I could enjoy it. I will stop again on my way back to LAX.

On a busy Valentine’s night, my boyfriend and I grabbed 2 open seats at the bar. The ambiance is romantic and warm in the dining room, with comfy bench seats and branches with twinkle lights. It was busy but not packed. The overwhelming odor of truffle oil was in the air… I tried a weekly special eggplant and zucchini pizza while my date had the fish tacos. My pizza was plenty but the tacos were teeeeeeeny tiny. The food was okay, but nothing remarkable. I’ll go back and give it a second chance to find a cravable dish. I added creamy ricotta cheese to the pizza. The trouble was, it was flavored with truffle too. I thought it was just the lingering scent in the restaurant, but no. Lay off the truffle oil, guys!

What happened to Coogies of Malibu? They turned it into Ollo’s and ruined it. The low key atmosphere has been replaced with a modern looking, upscale vibe and half the dining area is now a bar. Most of the tasty Coogie menu items are gone. Everything on the menu is now overpriced, and the food is mediocre at best. We dropped in for an early dinner on Valentine’s Day. I had the skirt steak and my gf had the scallops. She had a glass of Pinot that was good, but my Cadillac margarita was nothing special. What you’re paying for, and what you’re actually getting is not worth it. I’m guessing the owner is passing the cost of the remodel down to the customers. Service was good.

I fell in love with this place as soon as I walked in. The inside is amazingly beautiful, with a huge bar to the side and elevated seating with cushions and pillows. Love the large tree underneath the skylight. The ambiance is light, fresh and inviting. The menu has lots of options: I went with the Asian shrimp salad bowl and it was awesome. The kale was so fresh. Came here with a few other co-workers to discuss business and the sound level was perfect for conversation. Great service too

My boyfriend suggested Ollo for a date night and I am definitely not disappointed. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the décor. Very modern; wood floors, marble table tops, fire place, and a tree growing in the middle of the dining room. Super cozy and romantic. The staff was pretty nice, although it did take a while for the server to come check on us after we got our food. For a Saturday night one would hope there’d be more help on the floor. We ordered the Burrata Pizza for starters which was AMAZING. He had the chicken kabobs and the fish taco’s, I had the linguini. We also shared the fries which were phenomenal. We’d order it all again sans the fish taco’s. Not that they were bad, just not his style. The only negative I really have is that the tables aren’t very wheelchair accessible. They have these weird legs on them and my boyfriend couldn’t fit under the table. Other than that we were very satisfied with the price and quality of the place. Would definitely come back again.

I came across OLLO after a recommendation from my friend. We took a drive up PCH to El Matador State Beach and stopped for lunch here on our way back. It’s so unassuming in a strip mall, but the food was so good I came back 2 days later with another friend. The kale mint cucumber juice called Digestion was so delicious especially after a hike at Solstice. I highly recommend the ahi fish tacos, the burrata plate and the zucchini fries! Having eaten lunch here twice, I’m looking forward to trying their brunch/breakfast menu!

I don’t get out to the Bu much in the evening, so it was nice to discover this little gem. Met up with a friend of mine who lives in the hood. I must admit, I didn’t eat much. We sat at the bar, had a few drinks and had a couple of apps. The décor is modern, yet intimate. I love the olive tree sitting on a raised platform in the middle of the room surrounded by couches. The drinks were generally pretty well poured, but somewhat inconsistent depending on who poured them. The night I was there, the bartender seemed like he may have been new. He must of asked each of us at least twice what we ordered before delivering our drinks. Once the program was set, he did pour some good drinks. There was a management type guy who seemed to be floating in the bar who about 15 minutes in insisted in a dry, comic way that he was going to demand that we order some food(we’d brushed him off a few times because we were catching up). Although he was trying to be funny, it was relatively intrusive. He also promised to pour me his version of a Cadillac Marg and then promptly forgot about it. For the next round, our«new» bartender then also forgot about our drinks. It was a relatively quiet evening, so a bit of a party foul and hence the missing fourth star. We had the Burrata and the Meatballs. The meatballs were pretty good. I would have them again. The Burrata was average. Had more mozzarella than cream and the tomatoes weren’t ripe. Overall, a nice place to go for happy hour and enjoy the company of friends. In fact, we met some interesting, fun regulars which spiced up the evening.

Beautiful space — love the banquette seating on the rock slabs! So unique. And the entire level of dining that’s elevated. Makes you feel special being higher up. The food was good — healthy, well-done, and not too pricey. I had the salmon bowl and it was really healthy with nice grain textures. Service was suffering — too many people and too few servers. But they were very apologetic about it and you could tell they were trying their best.

First thing I noticed about this restaurant is the ambiance. Very intimate inside, unless you’re by the bar area. There are lots of small twinkle lights combined with a tree indoors and you have perfect date spot. Expect to see a lot of couples and double dates. Came here on a Friday night, did not need a reservation and got seated immediately. Service was fine– nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. Moving onto the food. We ordered an appetizer, the salmon tartare. My favorite dish of the night by far. They have an interesting spin to their salmon tartare that is Mediterranean inspired. There is a minty cucumber yogurt around the salmon tartare which provides a refreshing change up to your standard tartare. Big fan. It was also a decent size when shared amongst two people. I don’t think I would like to share with four– would probably suggest ordering a second appetizer so you can get more salmon. For main course, I had the lemon salmon pasta with capers. Eh– too salty for me, which is a shame because I am typically a huge fan of capers so I was excited to try this. Would not recommend. My friend got the burger and he seemed pleased with that choice– so maybe that is an adequate move. Skipped dessert to go next door. Not a bad place to stop by if you’re in the area, but wouldn’t come out of my way to here.

The ambience of this place is amazing! My friends and I chose to sit outside as we are currently experiencing 80 degree weather in the middle of November. The lighting was perfect and that ocean breeze made the mood just right. Onto the food! Seasonal beets(goat cheese on the side) — This was okay to me but only because I do not like fruit in my salads but the poppy seed vinaigrette was unique and the beets were fresh Turmeric Tofu bowl(no feta) — I was hesitant about ordering this but our server said it was one of his fav dishes so I put my trust in him and it was my best decision of the night! The turmeric was subtle and did not overpower the other items in the dish Burrata Pizza– SUCCESS! Friends had to rock, paper, scissors for the last slice Wagyu Burger –Devoured. End of story. Roasted Cauliflower –YASSSS! Brussel Sprouts(no pancetta) –This was ok, a bit bland Shishito pepper(I order this dish at every restaurant I go to) — so effing good I almost didn’t want to share Ceviche– Killed it! Penne Bolognese– It looked soooooo delicious(friend who ate it confirmed it) From the service to the food and even the vibe I am def a fan! I’ve been loving the Malibu area lately so I will for sure be back very very soon.

I called only a couple of weeks ago to see whether Ollo had a happy hour, and the hostess informed me that they did not. However, Ollo messaged me after my review went up that they now DO have a Happy Hour, as of October 5th! Here are his details: Happy Hour at Ollo that we just launched on October 5th. We have $ 5 well, beers and house wines and $ 7 Happy Hour specialty cocktails as well as happy hour food bites. CHIAPUDDINGWITHFRUITBITS I make this at home a lot so it hurt to pay $ 7 for it but I’m on vaca and had little time. I wish they put the order in a cup and gave me a spoon instead of the weird shallow salad bowl and fork! Anyway, the pudding was good and the fruit bits of kiwi and mango add depth and refreshing flavor to the pudding.

This restaurant used to be Coogies. It seems the owner realized how terrible her restaurant was and decided to turn things around. She changed the decoration to make it fresh, provided a menu with healthy and fun ingredients, and ensured that her staff acted friendly and professional. But she forgot one important thing: the food. The new atmosphere was nice. I enjoyed the sofa style seating and the comfortable arrangement. The colors were warm and matching and the lighting was good. I wish I could say the same about the food. I ordered the salmon lunch special with farro and broccoli sides. I will go from the best parts of the meal and whittle my way down to the worst. Let’s start with the salmon. That was the best item I had. The salmon itself was moist and not badly cooked. I can’t say I disliked it. But that doesn’t mean it was anything I would recommend you order. The technique was basic, and nothing more. No nice sear on the salmon, no use of the skin(which they throw away instead of using), no perfection with the tenderness of its interior, and little-to-no seasoning. I could do a much better job cooking salmon myself at home, and I am not a professional chef. On its own, the salmon, decoration, and service of this place would warrant two out of five stars. That’s because, on its own, I would rate it as «Meh, I’ve experienced better.» But there’s more to this story than just salmon, decoration, and service. The side dishes tell a tale of their own. The broccoli was hardly cooked and raw on the inside. If there is any golden rule with broccoli, it is this: don’t serve raw broccoli. Nobody who understands food wants to eat that. Slightly steaming broccoli such that the outside begins to get wet but the inside is still firm is not enough. Cooking it a little more goes a long, long way, and adding some garlic or seasoning would have helped a lot. It gets worse. While the salmon was amateur, and the broccoli was undercooked, the farro was plain old disgusting. It had this slimey green sauce over it that was described to me as «a lemon cream sauce thing.» «Thing» was a good word choice by the server. This component was completely unnecessary. It was disgusting. This sauce took a mediocre meal and plunged it into darkness, overruling my palette with a flavor that neither fit the meal it was presented with nor should have ever been in my mouth. It did not taste like lemon, the cream was more of a sludge, the color was ghastly, and the flavor matched its appearance. Whoever designed this meal should stop cooking immediately. I am not going to eat here again. This was the same experience I had at Coogie’s except the menu was a little different and the atmosphere was nicer. Like most restaurants in Malibu, the food was terrible. And if you’re reading this and thinking to yourself, «what is he talking about? Coogies was great!» then maybe you should eat here. If that’s what you think as you read this then you are blessed with ignorance and you’re going to love it. But if you’re like me, a food critic whose bar has been raised by the ever proliferating food revolution of Los Angeles, then you are going to be sorely disappointed.

I just don’t think that Ollo is the new and better Coogies. If anything, I think Ollo is just like Coogies except with better interior and more menus to choose from. I came in excited for breakfast after reading all the rave reviews about Ollo. However, I was disappointed by their breakfast acai bowl which was pricier than sunlife and definitely not better tasting. Although the decoration was cute, the acai in the acai bowl was very icy. I came to the conclusion that I should go ahead and go to sunlife for acai in Malibu. Additionally, my friend ordered the oatmeal pancake which was decent. The portions were huge but to be honest, the taste wasn’t amaaazing.

The reincarnation of Coogies, and it looks like only the décor has changed. Menu feels the same although the décor is more upscale which I’m sure is helping the dinner business. It appears there’s a live olive tree in the middle of the dining room. Service has never been great here, and that paradigm continues. Hostess was TOO nice(the kind that makes you uncomfortable). Had the chimichurri skirt steak which was all of three ounces, probably the worst value in Malibu for 17.00, and their wheat bread served as toast is awful and thin. Eggs were poached nicely, and the asparagus and roasted cherry tomatoes are an after thought. Daughter liked her Wagyu burger. Value just not here, which really is what a restaurant needs to deliver. Will definitely not be back for breakfast, not sure about lunch or dinner.

Wow! What an improvement! The former owner of Coogies knew what he was doing when he transformed the Old Coogies into the New Ollo! My family and I decided to have dinner here last night and what an amazing experience that was! Right when we walked in, the atmosphere was extremely welcoming and very city like. Exactly like when I was in a restaurant in San Francisco. Definitely a step up then the original restaurants ambience. The service was fantastic and the food was even better! I highly recommend the cauliflower appetizer and the prosciutto with melon appetizer! All the food was out of this world good but those were my favorite because they are unique, nothing like anything offered at any restaurant I’ve eaten at before in the United States. Our server was Kyle and he was one of the most kind hearted servers out there! He checked on us plenty of times to see how our meals were throughout the night and if we needed anything else to eat or drink. Just an all around great guy and talented server. I will definitely be coming back just for his service! For appetizers my family and I shared the cauliflower, zucchini sticks, beef kabobs, and the prosciutto with melon. Every starter was decadent in their very own but outstanding ways. They completely satisfied all of our taste buds. For entrees we shared two pizzas, the burrata and the smoked prosciutto. Both were very delicious and filling and both were topped exactly like how pizzas were topped in Luxembourg when I lived there, simple yet very flavorful. Ollo is priced around the previous Coogies pricing but offers every meal rather then just breakfast and lunch. They still offer some of their previous items for breakfast which is nice but the ambience of the new restaurant Ollo is 10 times better! Definitely an improvement! When you feel like having a fun filled evening, morning or afternoon, I recommend to give Ollo a shot because that’s what I did with my family and it was very rewarding! With the fabulous smiling service and the incredible new surrounding atmosphere, Ollo is already one of the stellar«must-eats» in Malibu. I personally can’t wait to go back!
