What a disaster! Very unorganized and incapable of fulfilling a minimal delivery order. We waited for for our food when it came there were no wings but they didn’t forget to charge my debit card for them! Then they said they would send them over so even though they are an appetizer ok so 40 minutes go by and still waiting! Call back you know what just credit back my debit card please ok sorry but it’s a 100% in our kitchen and we don’t have any delivery drivers!?! Ok so why don’t you I don’t know they keep quitting! Oh wow so maybe you’re not treating them right like your customers and maybe you shouldn’t offer delivery anymore don’t you think??? I’m not sure how they intend to credit back my card since they never asked for it again maybe they keep your information?!? What a scary thought end result food is dry and not edible anyway so save yourself from the nightmare and go some place else!

Ok well, you know how one can read a review and think.‘it can’t be that bad’. Well it was worse than that. The wonton soup was yellow, the wontons were chewy and horrible. The pork in the soup was as if it had laid out on the counter for 2 days. Then the vegetable wontons(3 steamed) were COLD I Kidd you not. My Ma Po Tofu was also almost cold, and the mushrooms + water chestnuts were obviously out of the can. It sucked. I went there to ponder on my younger days when I would go with my parents… Some things should definitely be left in the past. Do not waste your money… I WANTMY $ 34BACK

I brought my cousin in for his first time, he loved it and said he will be back next time in from Rhode Island. The food was good and good service too. Ruthie the bartender makes very good drinks there.

They start you off with the best complimentary«soup noodles» ever! Very big portions with great taste. If you are a meat lover, I recommend trying a poopoo platter because the entire thing is delicious(the fancy little fire is also a cute touch). Lovely place altogether with attentive wait staff!

Delicious moo-shu and chicken, good choice of drinks too. It’s quiet here, with low volume Chinese music playing in the background. Service is good. Nice choice of drinks.

Not going to lie this was not my favorite place to eat. It always seemed slow and the food seem to come out cold. But I only went once so it could have just been the day? Maybe you’ll have better luck.

I’m sorry, this place is not good at all! Second time trying it and decided to go there with friends to eat. First off, the service was horrible. They did not bring anything to our table. The glasses were cloudy and the forks were not cleaned properly, not to mention the fly that was floating in my friends wanton soup. I did not care for their food at all.

Decent standard Chinese food. This restaurant is all about Gene the owner’s son. When he decides to leave this place will be gone.

Great service and the food is always on par with what you would expect with Chinese food. They have a few extra menu items that you would not normally see at a take out place.

Worst Chinese food I’ve eaten in my entire life — horrible delivery cold and late to deliver plus apathetic staff

Looking to explore eateries in Mamaroneck and spend some time with the patriarch of the family, we decisively agreed upon Chinese and Lum Yen. Being that I was on a mini-staycation and excited about having some free time, I ordered way more food than I should have, but that translates to lots of opinions :) From the outside, the place was seemed cookie cutter Chinese(that’s not takeout.) But, the inside décor was very warm and inviting. The staff and overall experience gave me a feel of an above average Chinese restaurant.(Disclaimer: We did go on a rainy day and for lunch, so it was fairly empty) Foodwise, I’d say the food was average with a few exceptions. I started with a Lum Yen Special Soup and my father had their Famous Chicken Wings. The soup was alright and the wings were flavorful. For entrees, I asked for their Velvet Shrimp(dinner plate) and my father went for their Chinese Eggplant with minced Pork(dinner plate) and we shared a lunch order of Singapore Curry Mei Fun. The Velvet shrimp wasn’t bad, but didn’t seem any different than Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and the Curry Mei Fun was average too. However, my father’s choice was good. Their eggplant was cooked perfectly and the dish was flavored well. Recap, the food was average, with the exception of their wings and eggplant dish. If I’m in Mamaroneck and I’m craving Chinese, I’d go here, however, my go-to Chinese location would still be Chinatown, NYC. PS, the place is located a bit off from the main roads, which equates to less stress when dealing with parking(and I found out that they have private parking afterwards)

Finally made it out here after hearing about it from some friends. Got the chicken wings as an appetizer, which I’ve had a friend’s place. It’s really crispy and crispy, some may say a little salty. I ordered the sesame chicken, chicken & shrimp and Moo Shu Pork. They were all good. The sesame chicken was nice and crispy. The service here was very good and a nice place to bring the family. I appreciated the fact the waiter actually put my moo shu pork rolls together for me, though I could have done that myself.

Lum Yen, In my opinion is one of the best Chinese Takeout/Sit places in Mamaroneck. My family and I were very big with Little Kitchen but stopped ordering from there due to Long delivery times, Lost orders and more. Lum Yen is very Fast in Delivery/Takeout. The outside may look Grungy But once you walk inside it is very nice, Everything looks new, Modern and the area is very spacious. The foods I suggest most from there are: Cashew Chicken(Delicious!) Scallion Pancakes Which can be sometimes hit or miss because they can get very soggy and chewy, The Johnny Lum Chicken Wings, And the broccoli in garlic Sauce. Lum Yen is awesome And the only Chinese food joint i will order or take out from. (TIP) I suggest going there to eat the food, Sometimes getting it delivered makes it just not seem the same. Pickup is also fine.

This the worst Chinese food I very had from stale chips to the most tasteless pork, fried rice, everything. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone!!! Nothing was fresh… Not good at all.

I’ve eaten at this restaurant about a dozen times over the last two or three years and never had a bad meal. Appetizers: the won ton soup is very good, the dumplings are good if unspectacular and I would recommend the satay chicken. The entrees are what I would call«Americanized» Chinese so if you are looking for real authentic Chinese food you’ll probably have to go to Queens or Chinatown in lower Manhattan but if you want dishes you’re more familiar with you will do very well with almost any choice here. I would particularly recommend the shredded chicken or pork with garlic sauce and, from the chef’s specials, the chut hee(pork and shrimp) or the Triple Crown. The décor is clean and modern and the service ranges from satisfactory to very good. My experiences at this restaurant are diametrically opposed to the negative review above.

Lum Yen claims to have been around since 1972. However, unlike most other old-school joints, they seem to have rennovated within the past few years. The décor is very modern with mosaic tiles and abstract wood things on the walls. Luckily, the updates didn’t seem to affect the menu too much, if at all. The usual collection of tiki/polynesian drinks is available from the full bar. Their zombie is one of the better ones I’ve had recently. It always packs a punch without being too boozy tasting. It’s also never overly sweet. I don’t know how they do it, but the zombie here is sure to please. Lum Yen’s Wonton soup is a highlight with a nice mix of ingredients and the thicker-type wontons I prefer. I usually go for the Young Chow version which has shrimp, chicken, and vegetables along with the wontons. As usual, the pupu platter is a crowd-pleaser. Loaded with tasty morsels, it’s the highlight of any inauthentic asian meal. This one features egg rolls(half-size), baby spare ribs, beef on a stick, «Jonnie Lum’s» chicken wings, fantail shrimp, and chicken in foil. All these items are pretty standard with the wings and ribs being noteworthy exceptions. Jonnie Lum’s chicken wings are prepared in such a way that the meat is bunched-up toward the joint and then deep fried and drizzled with oyster sauce. They’re quite delicious. The ribs are also very good. They’re thin, and not overly sauced. Lum Yen’s menu offers all the normal chinese takeout items like chowmein, lomein, and chicken and broccoli. They may be good here, but you should really try the more innovative and hearty dishes here like the Seafood Sizzling Wor Bar and Hong Shu Shrimp. Lum Yen has a small parking lot in the back of the restaurant, but street parking is also abundant. I’ve never had a problem finding parking here.
