Seems to be the only major grocery in town, but they had everything our family & friends needed while we were in town for the week. Great prices, excellent customer service, & love that they have a connection to the other shops without having to go outside, especially, if you are here during wintertime.

Was worried as read lots of negative reviews about price and service. Visited Vons 3 times in our week stay in Mammoth. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than a supermarket off the mountain but that’s to be expected. Alot more time goes into getting produce up here than in the city. Still reasonably priced, huge variety of produce, staff were amazing & service was spot on! Ofcourse if you are able to purchase food before coming to Mammoth, do so but if not, this option is perfect :)

Great customer service, they go above and beyond when you have a question or problem. The sushi is notable! So funny that my local grocery store has some of the best sushi in town!

Only reason we came here is because we were desparate for snow chains in our size. They had them. At a ridiculous price!!! I won’t say, because it’s extremely embarrasing and really bad, but if you know how much four cheap tires cost, it was just that, adding 30 bucks to it. Ridiculous! It’s a full service Vons. It’s got everything. The only other thing that sucked was their customer service. We spent so much and yet we ended up bagging our $#I%, because the clerk was a complete moron.
Yeah, come here, because you have no choice and they got you by your bollas.

You guys from out of town are so cute, thanks for coming up and making Vons a 24 hour market. Yes I am a local, so of course I shop before the tourists come, get the fresh food and don’t have to wait so long. Going to Vons is like going to a club meeting, I always see somebody I know. I don’t care about the specialized foods from Gelsons, Whole Foods, etc. I am annoyed that I forgot to buy a pie for Christmas… but the snow is so heavy. But I do not starve, am a pretty good cook and get to live in the prettiest place on the planet that actually has a Vons. So I am a very happy person and walk 5 minutes to the slopes.

I wish the grocery stores in my area worked this fast when there was a rush of people at 6PM on a Friday. I think we were in & out in 20 minutes & there were 6 of us shopping for 3 days worth of food. This place is well stocked with the necessities. Except they don’t have rumple minze.
I’ve only ever been here during tourist season, so of course there’s going to be a bunch of bros & brahs loading up on the coors light.
Be patient & try to avoid the peak hours for coming here. Good luck!

VONS in Mammoth Lakes ist ein Supermarkt der vor allem beim Obst und Gemuese ein grosse Auswahl bietet. Die Fleisch/​Fisch-​Theke bietet alles was man braucht. Die Wein– und Bier-​Auswahl ist riesig und hat lokale Angebote. Insgesamt laesst dieses Geschaeft keine Wuensche offen. Parken is uebrigens auch einfach.

What choice do we have? Sadly none. For the most part we have good service, but to be told off by the Supervisor after waiting for over 10 mins so they could figure out how much something cost was ENOUGH! Nancy Whatever, was incredibly RUDE and is a huge mistake as a supervisor. Shame on VONS for having such RUDE Employees! Avoid her at all costs!!!

This review isn’t about the Vons store, but about one amazing worker. Durning my summer vacation to Mammoth, I have been getting sass from everyone I meet. This all changed when I met Wendy, right when I showed up to buy my groceries she was super friendly. She was caring, and knew what she was talking about. In all honesty she should be promoted. #PromoteWendy

Vons isn’t exactly a synonym for quality service and products. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like Whole Foods. How do you know if you’re apart of the middle class? There’s a Vons in your neighborhood. How do you know if you live in a bad part of town? There’s a Wal-​Mart. How do you know if you live in the good part of town? There’s a Whole Foods.
We usually stop by this Vons to pick up supplies for the weekend. We don’t expect much since most of our supplies consist of beer, liquor, toilet paper, paper towels and things we forgot at home. I know. We’re killing the rain forest and ruining the environment with our consumption. Hey, at least, we don’t pour our beer and liquor down the drain.
Overall, it’s not a bad Vons and they have all the essentials we needed for the weekend. However, some of the staff are pretty out there cause one of the older baggers were talking about how cool it would be if there was another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. My buddies and I just looked at each other then looked at the cashier and she gave this look like «Okay… I’m definitely reporting you to H.R. for that comment.»

Ridiculously busy Vons during high season. They have some local brews and Root Beer, other than that it’s your standard Vons. Produce section on one side, bakery on the other side, meat & fish in the back. Aisles are smaller than what I’m used to. No decent candy section. Firewood outside. Only 1 – 2 registers were open the times I went, meaning long lines that curled around the aisles. I expected prices to be inflated due to the tourist city, but they were reasonable enough.

The only butcher in town and the only thing they butcher is the idea of a good cutlet of meat. This place is horrible. Drive into the desert back down the 395 before you ever consider poisoning yourself with this grade fail meat.

The store is fully stocked with great products. Unfortunately, the customer service was BAD. The cashier was rude and short with her answers. If this store ever gets a self check stand I would recommend you use it!

I live in Mammoth and this is really the only true grocery store in town. I love Patrick, the wonderfully eccentric/​funny check. He makes me laugh when I go through the line and he says, «Welcome to Vons, the happiest place on earth.» I also like John, who is always polite and welcoming. Sure, everything is sinfully expensive, but this is Mammoth folks.

This review is really more for the Starbucks that is located in the Vons pharmacy next door. Some of the most efficient and friendly people work here.

This might be the biggest Vons I have ever been in. I don’t know if all Vons are this expensive or they just know the demand is high with all the visitors who forgot things at home.
There is a redbox. They sell pinecones which I assume are for kindling, good alcohol selection and they are open until 1am!
Their Tiramisu cake isn’t bad either.

Arm and leg people!!! That’s what you would have to pay to come here.
Ok to be fair this Von’s is pretty well stocked and clean. You will find everything you possibly need, though at a premium because, well, you’re in the mountains and its pretty much the only choice. A head of lettuce will run about $ 4, prepackaged salads even more.
Fruit will cost the same as organic produce elsewhere, and the meat isn’t much better.
The thing with this Von’s is that there is a plethora of alcohol choice. I think I counted 3 rows or something similar of alcohol. I guess people up here don’t have much to do at night after the slopes close other than drink at night! Lol…

Sells food past expiration.
Rude workers.
Has all the symptoms of a business going down.

I love grocery shopping, but I’m not that into Vons.
Though it’s big and well stocked, it’s also always packed — since it’s one of the few (if not the only) big grocery store in Mammoth Lakes.
I always found all of the necessary basics here and at reasonable prices — but I much preferred stopping into Sierra Sundance Whole Foods for picnic food.
But for the necessities and for big groups — Vons is your spot.

How to shop at Vons in Mammoth Lakes:
1. Check the date. If it’s between 3−8pm on a Friday, or Saturday, don’t bother. If it’s a holiday, really don’t bother, because despite the multitudes of grocery stores they could have stopped at on the way up, the city folk bought all the food and there’s none left for you, unfortunate local. (You should know better. During tourist season, only grocery shop on Tuesdays or Wednesdays after everything’s restocked. On busy weekends or holidays, only come while the mountain’s open or at midnight to pick through what’s left.)
2. Be moderately prepared for a social interaction. If you pop in any weekday during that post-​work hour, you’ll likely run into your dental hygienist, the bartender who got you hammered 3 nights ago, your boss’ boss, 6 of your best friends, and the punk kids whose dog shits on your lawn every day. You don’t have to dress up for this occasion, but don’t walk in wearing the pants with the hole in the crotch you still haven’t thrown away, and for god’s sake, put some eyedrops in your eyes and refrain from eating candy bars in the liquor aisle.
3. Check your produce carefully, from every angle possible. Especially if it’s a specialty piece of produce or an item that you would never catch in a ski bum’s basket. It’s not Vons’ fault — things grow mold when they sit untouched between weekends. That’s how you know it’s actually food.
4. Pick through some more fruit and produce, then just say fuck it and head toward the front-​middle section of the store — you know what they keep there. Say hi to just about all of your friends in the span of these 3 aisles. It’s like our version of Cheers.
5. Spot some Big Important Person from your company loitering in the wine section. Say hello politely and awkwardly point at the bottle of cheap Malbec in your hand while commenting about meeting in the «best aisle of the store.» Curse Vons silently for putting 2-​liter sodas right behind imported red wine when she looks at you sideways, says «okay,» and picks up a Cactus Cooler.
6. Escape toward the back of the store and suspiciously poke packages of meat, some in early stages of decay. There are usually plenty of edible steaks here as long as you’re not picky about the exact cut you want, but today doesn’t appear to be your day. Check the dates on every package before audibly shouting for joy and running for the cart when you see the meat man wheeling out a new batch.
7. Head left for some staple items. Since they upgraded this place a few months back, the inventory here now rivals a normal grocery store in a mediocre suburban area. You’ll find everything you need, a few things NOBODY needs, and nothing more. While I still walk through city grocery stores basically salivating out of my eyeballs and mentally licking everything I see, at least I don’t have to drive 3 hours to Reno every time I want some coconut oil and a mango anymore.
8. Cruise the Asian section, a 3-​foot wide span of shelves that includes almost nothing but soy sauce, packaged miso soup mix, some Pocky, and a bag of Hello Kitty strawberry marshmallows that I’ve never seen anybody touch, ever. Consider buying the marshmallows. Grab a Shin Ramen and some Thai Kitchen coconut milk instead.
9. Get in line at the checkout counter (another place where you’ll have to fist-​bump a billion people and be fake-​nice to a bunch of people you work with who’re just being fake-​nice to you back). Realize suddenly that you’re standing behind your doctor and vaguely try to cover up the copious amounts of liquor in your basket with a piece of kale or something.
10. Tell Fireball (to his delight) that he broke his previous record today once he’s done flinging your shit across his station and into bags more rapidly than you ever believed could be possible by a human. Say bye and see ya later — you know you’ve made it in this town the dude remembers your name.

This seems to be THE grocery store serving Mammoth. Easy parking, fair prices, good selection.
They have a large wine section, and plenty of beer options — any guess what brought me here? The parking is easy, and the store had plenty of people working to help me find what I needed. Considering it was artic cold, I was also happy to find lots of fresh produce.
