Didn’t even have to try the food. Walked in around lunch time to a waitress who may or may not have been sleeping. I guess she didn’t hear my wife and I enter because the music was extremely loud. The place was really dark considering it was 1 pm and there was a table that was unbussed; which was strange considering there was no one in the place and the waitress was obviously not doing anything. Made me question their standard of cleanliness. I grabbed a menu and went straight to my defacto burrito. $ 11. The picture was of a burrito on plate which appeared mostly empty. Given my experience so far… There was no way in hell I was going to pay $ 11 for a burrito. I was hoping this place would be great as it is close to my home. However… I think I will stick with La Bamba which hasn’t let me down yet. Its a bit further but worth it compared to this disappointment.

The food is OK on a good day. The service is horrible. Slow and the waitresses can’t speak English.

We spent our honeymoon in Mexico and I remember dancing to festive music while sporting sombreros sipping mezcal & tequila & cerveza and of course absolutely wonderful spicy food, if you’ve ever read any of my reviews you know I like spice especially hot! There is nothing authentic about this place! The outside has a painted frog on the window of this strip mall with a sign stating authentic Mexican, eat in or take out and that should have been my first red flag. Upon entering the blaring music smashes you right in the face and practically explode your eardrums the strange thing about it’s almost like parodies of show tunes. Then you notice the massive benches about 6 or 8 of them were only Wilt Chamberlain & Kareem could possibly even come close to fitting. I’m not really a burrito type of a guy but they looked appetizing because the pictures are plasted all throughout the inside of the windows so I said what the heck let me try a beef burrito, the waitress said good choice. I normally love tacos but unfortunately I did not see tripe or head cheese which are typically staples for any authentic mexican place. They offer 2 hot sauce the green being mild and the red for hot. Hot was medium at best. Then I dove into the burrito, after diving deeper into the bland burrito I noticed that most of the steak meat was concentrated in the middle WTF? Upon my exit I was wondering how in the world could anybody give this dive positive reviews or even use the word authentic to describe it? I would not recommend and it really disturbs me that this place preys on all the summer traffickers that head from Manahawkin to LBI. Their homemade salsa is some sort of a onions cheese tomato silantro and avacado concoction that is not working. PASS!

Came here with my husband. I got the chicken burrito. Very good and two very big size burritos. The chicken was shreddad and stuffed in there a long with beans and rice. A lot of meat, also had salsa and sour cream, very good. They start you off with chips and homemade salsa which was also very good(made of tomato, onion, advacado etc.). If your a thirsty person like me just be aware its not free refills. Drinks are 2.00 each

This is a very nice Mexican Restaurant on Route 9 in Manahawkin. Don’t come here expecting Taco Bell. Their tacos are very good(if not a little pricey). Their burritos, tortas, etc, are very good as well. The food will fill you up, and is pretty fresh. The salsa looks like it’s made in-house, and is very good. Again, don’t come here & expect Taco Bell. OTOH, it’s not *quite* as authentic as something you may find in a hole-in-the-wall Mexican place in say, Camden, or Queens, but it’s still very authentic & a very nice change from the Food Desert which is otherwise known as Ocean County. They also have Mexican sodas. Jarritos, yum! Service can be a little slow when they get busy, so don’t come here on your lunch break when you’ve only got an hour, so try to call ahead in that case.

I agree with the rest of the complaints about the service. I went there once for take out so I didn’t deal with it however my lunch was average. I had the Verdes O Rojas Enchiladas. It was good but nothing special. So today I thought I’d give them another try for sit down as my husband and I were in the area. We showed up at 11:20am. The sign said they open at 11:00am. Well the door was locked so I peeked in the window and the waitress just stared at me. I waited, peeked again and she did nothing. Then, third time, she just waived me off. I couldn’t believe it. She wouldn’t even come to the door to tell me, «I’m sorry we are running late, etc.» Clearly your sign says you open at 11am, you should stick to it. This is poor customer service. I couldn’t believe how rude. I will not be going back. She was just so rude and lazy. I wonder if the owner knows his employees are going to run his business to the ground.

Went there to try someplace new with my girlfriend, will never go there again. Food was OK at best, service SUCKED and the atmosphere is better at Taco Bell. For the prices they charge, the portions are really small, my dinner was more like an $ 12 appetizer. We got our meals, then had to wait for silverware to eat them with. After finishing our meal, we waited at least 15 mins before finally getting up to find our server who was texting behind the counter. After asking for the check, we paid and we’re finally out of that place. If I was a total jerk I would have left $ 0 for tip, but that would have required waiting for them to make change and probably wasting another 30 mins of my life. Maybe they will put an Arbys or a Chipotle in there soon.

Went for lunch two days ago worst meal in long time didn’t, t have first two items ordered. Salsa was bland. Pulled pork taco was full of fat and not shredded at all. Place was filthy, felt very comfortable eating in such filth. Should have trusted my gut feelings and run out before ordering. No English spoken either.

El Señor Frog has an inconspicuous location in a modernized strip mall in Downtown Manahawkin. The parking is easy, and you can walk right in. The area does not have many lower priced, higher-quality restaurants, so this place is excellent given the competition. The wait is not even bad even on a Saturday night in the summer. The food is more than traditional Mexican. Everything is arranged with a nice presentation. My favorite part is the refried beans that are ground on site from real black beans. If you’re down on LBI, go here instead of one of those overpriced taverns on the island. You can BYO, too.

A nice find here. If you didn’t know it was there you’d definitely miss it. Located in a strip mall, this place is no frills but solid quality. Very decent Mexican food Very friendly staff. Nothin fancy. More than generous portions. They are super customer friendly. ie – Every time I’ve gone they inevitably will ask me «I know you ordered chorizo and chicken but do you like pork?(then they throw some fresh pork on my plate). Do you like steak?(they throw some steak on my plate). It’s nothing fancy but hot, fresh and good nonetheless. Dine or take out, a place definitely worth trying

Good stuff — authentic and tasty. It’s not fancy but they do a nice job. Had the shredded pork tacos and the pork was cooked perfectly. my wife enjoyed the shrimp fajitas. Good value, would definitely go back.

Was here two days ago with my family and we all got food poisoning. While we thought the food was delicious, turns out it was contaminated in some way. Unless you enjoy being on the toilet I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

I heard good reviews about this place, but was sadly disappointed. The food was awful. The taco were dry. The burritos were soggy. The salsa was like tomato sauce. Everything was bland. …Spend a little more and go to El Tenampa Mexican Restaurant for good food!

First time here today and not a good lunch time experience. Very slow service, brought wrong meal out of only two ordered, wait staff spoke no English, cash only and the food was just OK. After living in Europe I’ve come to enjoy not being rushed but this was different. The menu is in Spanish and English so you’d think pointing to the meal number you want there’d be no question. I had no cash and had to go to the bank since they are cash only. Me guess some of the $$$ brought in heads south of the border. After all of the inconvenience my bill was menu price and not even a «sorry» for the wrong meal. I will never go back and have already told three friends of their lack of custom service.

Fancy? Nope but I will tell you that the food is about as authentic as it gets. As an annual visitor to Cancun you know I like the local fare. This is very close and very reasonable. Five of us ate for under $ 45 and left absolutely full. Great tacos, rellenos, and everything else. Worth a look

My wife and I have eaten here several times and it has always been great. Everything we’ve had has been seasoned well, not spicy but tasty. Other taco places in the area are bland in comparison. We haven’t eaten our way through all of the menu yet but try the tacos Al Pastor(spicy sweet pork with a bit of pineapple). Also for a break from soda try the Orchata. It’s a rice drink with bit of cinnamon. It’s refreshing and cuts any spices a bit.
