This review only speaks to ACME’s service ability. Nothing else We purchased a Fireplace Xtraordinare from another dealer in town a few years ago. Recently the unit ceased to function properly. We contacted Acme to repair the unit as our original dealer was clearly less than skilled. From the beginning it was pretty obvious ACME’s techs were less than competent. They had no diagnostic tools to troubleshoot the problem. They just kept replacing parts. Each part replacement/repair attempt took weeks. The office staff was misleading regarding the manufacture’s shipping policy and blamed all the delays on them. The shipping cost for each part was a clearly excessive $ 50 for delivery that took weeks. To make a long story short after multiple repeated attempts to repair the fireplace and hundreds of dollars in unnecessary parts and trips, our unit still does not function correctly. I had to call the manufacturer. They admitted ACME never called when on-site for guidance. A manufacture’s tech also admitted it made no sense to replace the part that inspired me to call the manufacturer. ACME was pleasant enough, but when it became obvious they were in over their heads they bailed. Difficulties reveal the true character of and organization. Once you need to rely on ACME, it is clear they are won’t stick it out. If I could find another fireplace that functioned as well, I would pay thousands to be done with this headache. This ordeal started in February and it is still not over. If you think I am a complainer, read my other reviews.

So I order a new expensive fire place for around 4k. Then when I go to pay they want another 500 for installation. Ok so 4500. But wait there is more. Another 500 for a venting kit. Ok 5k now. After they set the unit I discovered they did not get a required permit. Ok 2 more hours for me to go to the county and that was 100 dollars. Ok so we are at 5100 now plus my time. So the unit is not hooked up to gas or power. They did not hook it up. My plumber and electrician have to come back and this is another 500. So 5600 now. Have they done this before? I dont know if the unit works or not. What if it does not work? Im sure they will blame my electrician and plumber. You pay premium prices for crappy service. I hope I don’t have any problems because I’ll bet they will charge for any warranty issues. Go to Mechanicsville and there is a competitor that does this much better and provides excellent service. Looks like family and friends did the prior Unilocal reviews. Hopefully you will have better luck than me. Im still not out of the woods yet.

What a great place! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Unbelievable selection of quality stoves, inserts, gas fireplaces and every accessory you might need. They spent a lot of time answering my questions and explained the different options for our wood furnace. This is THE place to go if you’re thinking about a wood stove, insert, etc.

This is an awesome, family-owned business. I bought my gas logs from here(love them) and the staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. They answered all my questions, helped me make the right decision for a size to fit my fireplace, and treated me with respect. I would never go anywhere else, they really know their stuff and are super nice.

I went there on Labor Day looking for a wood burning fireplace insert. After looking around and talking to them I decided on one. Yesterday they came to install it. They were professional but they were quick. Total time was an hour or less. They laid out drop cloths so they wouldn’t leave a mess. Cleaned up everything. I would highly recommend them.
