Food is good yes. The manager not so much. I placed my order at 6:00 pm, I called tonight at 7:16 to ask what time the food order would arrive. The Manager laughed at me and said, anyone, which orders there should understand that on the weekend it takes it over an hour to arrive. I said it would have been nice to know that when I called. Guess what she canceled my $ 120 order. I guess business in Manalapan must be really good.

Nice place clean with an attentive staff. The sushi and mains are good with a little room for improvement. I’m really not complaining but I’m still waiting for a sushi restaurant to blow me away in this area. STILLWAITING!

So fortunate to live practically next door to this place. Sushi is AWESOME and service is excellent. I can’t understand why they aren’t packed every night.

This place has very fast delivery and great specials, but the rolls don’t taste very fresh. I’ve ordered from them three times now and each time I’ve felt the same way. My avocado has been slightly browning twice and something tasted different about the fish. I guess you get what you pay for.

Food showed up nearly an hour late, luke warm and missing a soup. Usually much better service than this, but always a little late

Probably the worst sushi place I have ever ordered from. Do not ever order a hand roll, there is barely any food. Portions are very small. I ordered 4 rolls and only ate because I was starving. Delivery took an hour. Basically, I will never order again.

The sushi here was always very good and fresh until I went a few weeks ago and it seemed like the vegetables had gone bad. my favorite dish is hands down the Kani salad

One thing to note about Yama is that Its BYOB, feel free to bring your own wine, liquor or sake and they will gladly provide you with ice buckets, wine glasses and even warm your sake upon request.

I discovered this place through grubhub, and I’m so thankful!!! This is one of the better sushi places I’ve visited in NJ. The fish is always fresh, the staff is always pleasant and courteous. They even delivered to Old Bridge from Manalapan. I had no clue how far the place was until my boyfriend and I decided to go out to dinner. I’m so happy they do deliver to Old Bridge. The restaurants décor is really cute too, I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe as we feasted on all the fancy rolls, one better than the next! I highly recommend the OMG roll!

Love me some sushi. This place has a nice selection of rolls and the fish itself is good quality. We got the OMG roll and it was quite OMG. lots of fish in it and very tasty. Used a group on so was worth it, but still hard to compare to half off sushi down the road. Nice décor, great for date night

Let’s be honest-options for quality food in my beloved hometown of Manalapan are sparse. Even in the neighboring towns, your top options are Italian, Italian, Diner, Italian, and chain restaurant. When this sushi spot opened in a small and otherwise unnoticed strip mall near my mom’s place-we were not excited to try it. It’s just not an exciting town to dine-out, or in. This Japanese restaurant, however, is an extremely welcome establishment. Upon hearing reports from my mother that she was eating take out here for the first time, I shook it off, seeing as how her food choices were dumplings and tempura. Not that these items are bad per se-but this is not what I’m interested in reviewing from a sushi restaurant! She persisted-so I obliged. We got take out from here the other night and I was impressed by the quality of the fish. The tuna was so fresh and delicious, the rolls we sampled-two of the«house specials» were well constructed, tasty, filling and again, filled with fresh fish. The Jade roll-salmon, avocado, and cucumber topped with white tune and a thinly sliced fresh jalapeño-was my favorite. I am looking forward to going to dine in at this restaurant and sampling more. As this restaurant has proven themselves on the sushi front, I’ll try more-but not opposed to trying the kitchen offerings as well. BYO, good sushi, and most of all, located in Manalapan-four solid stars in my book.

Yama Sushi is a pretty decent sushi joint. It’s nestled into a little blink-and-you’ll-miss-it strip mall off Route 9, so I admit I didn’t have super high hopes when I first saw it. However, once inside, it proved to be a clean, tasteful, and cozy environment. The sushi itself was fresh and well-presented, and the prices were about spot-on for other sushi places in the area. Seems like a few of the negative reviews were complaining about the changing of an «All you can eat» policy… my hidden sushi snob may be showing a bit, but hardly any reputable, quality sushi place is going to offer AYCE indefinitely… that’s not how sushi is supposed to be enjoyed. If you want to shovel hours-old California rolls into your face with no consideration for the subtleties of enjoying sushi, go down the street to Tokyo — they have a large sushi buffet. Overall not the best sushi I have ever had, but by far not the worst, and better than most. Sushi lovers, do yourself a favor and check this little place out sometime.

First off, I eat sushi A LOT. I’ve been to dozens of places in different states, east and west coast. That being said, I’ve been to Yama three times already, once for dinner and twice for lunch, each time the food was great. The crunchy kani/seaweed salad mix is amazing! Service is good, prices are average. The lunch special is great… I believe it’s a special roll, a regular roll and soup for $ 13.95. At some places, one special roll alone can cost that much. Please ignore the folks whining about the AYCE situation… get over it. It was a special and has nothing to do with the quality of food or service and it’s unfortunate that this business is being rated poorly based on that alone. Place is awesome and I would definitely recommend this place now that Mahzu in Freehold has gone down the tubes, basically.

My wife and I visited Yama on a weekday for lunch. In general the décor is modern with some Japanese flair as opposed to traditional you see in other Japanese restaurants. The dinner menu is very standard as in other Japanese restaurants. Appetizer — raw and cooked, sushi dinner, standard rolls and specialty rolls. Cooked dinner entrees. For the most part reasonably priced. There was a lunch menu and specials for lunch. We ordered some rolls and an appetizer. The appetizer was the Kani salad which was good. The rolls were ok. Fish was fresh, but my major pet peeve is the consistency of the rice which was on the stiffer side. The flavors are overall good. Portions were average. The staff was very friendly albeit on the slower side. I would come here again if i met up with friends, but would rather go to Wasabi house in Matawan or Konbu in Manalapan if i need a sushi fix.
