Great lil spot in manasquan for Italian or pizza nice bar area but you need to get hear early. The fried calamari is excellent and the bufflo shrimp are banging. Great place for a first date or a night out family. The pizza is really good for southern jersey always a go to when you cant decide what to have for dinner. The prices are great espically if you bring the family for a nice nite out.

My boyfriend and I love Italian food and love finding the hidden gems so when we came to the shore for a night we wanted to find one around here… well squan tavern did not disappoint! To start we had fried calamari and buffalo shrimp and they were great! For our meals I had the eggplant rolletini and my boyfriend got the veal Marsala. They were both delicious. The portions weren’t overly big which was nice since they give a salad to start a bread basket and side of pasta. The place is very cute and family friendly but also nice to go to as a couple for a good meal and some wine. The pizzas must have been to die for as everyone was ordering them and the place had a line to the for pickups! I would definitely recommend this place! Super friendly staff great atmosphere delicious food overall wonderful experience.

Boy, where do I begin … To give some context, my wife is English and I’m happy to go to the Olive Garden rather than eat her Italian food. We also had a trip early this year to Italy where we experienced some amazing Italian meals so my awareness of good Italian food has gone up dramatically this year. That being said, our meals this evening was just awful. Obviously I didn’t expect home cooked pasta but what we got was bland, barely hot and cover with the most awful, insipid tasting sauces. The cream sauce on my daughters tortellini tasted of flour and cream with a hint of «Christmas spices» as she put it. It’s an old tavern, a local hang out, not a high class spot, but regardless of price I expected a bit more. Stick with the pizza. My memory of that from several years ago was that it was good. I can’t fault the waitress who was very pleasant. I’m being generous with two stars for the food.

Always great, all our favorites, fairly kid friendly, and can handle large parties. Service can be a bit shaky(no water or drink refills when we had been bone dry for a good period of time), but friendly.

Casual tavern that serves Italian food and thin crust pizza. Reasonably priced, very good & friendly service and tasty meals. The place is larger than it looks with plenty of parking in the back in their own lot. It is crowded on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights so be prepared for a wait. The bar is jammed all the time. Can be loud depending on the size of the tables. It’s very family friendly but also a great place for couples or a group of friends to catch up. Price: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars Food: 4.5 stars Food is better than your average tavern.

Another recommendation discovered on Unilocal.Very happy with my experience overall. We came here to eat on Saturday night in July around 7:00PM. Walking into the restaurant, you’ll find a bar with generous seating on your left. The hostess station is down a bit hiding on your right. The dining room was pretty busy but we were seated outside under a yellow awning and quickly attended to by our waitress, Jenny. We split a hot antipasto, perfect for two, complete with clams, mussels, eggplant rollatini, peppers, and shrimp. Our entrees took a bit to arrive but understandably so given the crowd. We had the flouder and chicken rosario off the specials menu. And two thumbs up for our attentive and friendly waitress.

Talk about a relic from the past best describes the Squan Tavern’s ambiance, service and food and I have othing here to talk positively about at all. If the pricing was not such a rip-off I might be a little kinder, but be that as it may dropping over $ 90 at this joint was a real insult. There are many great places around the shore now that provide very nice value so why frequent an old money grabbing relic like the Squan Tavern?

I’ve been going here for the last 20 years. For the last decade I’ve been ordering the same thing. Spinach Gnocchi and Sicilian mushroom pizza(I take a lot home). The gnocchi in the cheese sauce is delicious and the pizza is perfection. Fresh mushrooms(hate pizza places that use squiggly canned mushrooms and it’s surprising how many do) on the Sicilian pizza which is thing crusted and comforting. Perfect place to go with family.

Dined here based on a coworker suggestion. There was a large group of us and we were seated quickly. The staff was friendly. The food was disappointing. Ordered a chicken pesto pizza. It was very lacking in flavor and substance. Others ordered a meat pizza and it looked a bit better. Overall we had a decent experience but the food was lacking. The pizza was the most reasonably priced selection on the menu. The place is very overpriced for the food offered.

Great pizza, great appetizers, and make sure you get the Cannoli Dip before you leave. Oh man, I could eat that for every meal.

Went with the gnocchi with Alfredo and a side of meatballs. Both were excellent. Homemade creamy Alfredo sauce which can make or break the dinner. More than enough for tonight and lunch tomorrow. Lisa had the eggplant rolletini appetizer and still had leftovers. Great portions at a great price. Nice night for eating on the patio… which made it a perfect dinner. Cheers.

Really hearty Italian food down the Jersey shore and they have Peroni on tap. The pizza is a crowd favorite. Thin crust. A jersey shore specialty. I had the spinach ricotta gnocchi in marinara sauce and it was really fresh and tasty. My friend had the veal and it was all gone before I could ask him if he liked it. :)

While this place is a convenient spot to grab a drink or bite to eat in this quaint little shore town I’ve never experienced great service here. It has always been a hit or miss thing while dining here(the bar itself I can say is much more attentive to their patrons however) The food for the most part(at least anything that I have ever tried) has been average(not bad food just nothing I would crave so badly I would go out of my way to get. The majority of the menu for the most part is reasonably priced however some of the items had me scratching my head over because I have tried them and their price tags don’t match their taste. If you come here for beer, wings and pizza however you are in luck because they do that well here.

Great food and great pizza, but nasty customer service. This is not the place to go if you want to have dinner before seeing a show at the Algonquin Theater. Don’t tell people you cannot accept reservations, only to give them to some people and not others. I called to make a reservation for 6:00 because we had 8:00 show tickets. The woman told me that they don’t accept reservations, but that we should be able to seated quickly at 6:00. When we arrived, we were told that there were 3 other parties of 6 people ahead of us, who had reservations. Why did you tell me you don’t take reservations when you gave them to others?
