What a stinker, it closed. I hope like Woburn’s Fabric Place, it reopens. Long haul to NYC to find such good things but not at Fabric Fix prices.

I’ve been going to Fabric Fix for my «fix» for about eight years, getting up there maybe once or twice a year. If you’re the kind of fabric shopper who knows exactly what s/he wants, you might be a little frustrated by this place. There’s only a very rough organization to the fabric(knits, wovens, fleece, wool, etc.) and sometimes you’ll find nothing that excites you. Other times, everything is gorgeous. I’ve gotten some beautiful suitings, swimwear/lycra fabric, and notions(elastic, ribbons) for a song. There’s also a table where you can buy fabric by the pound — if you sew children’s clothing, quilt or do crafts, you can get some good stuff in here. Oh, and true story. One day last summer I was in the shop for awhile, and when I came out my battery was dead. FF owner’s husband owns the garage next door, and he kindly came over and gave my car a jump. Now that’s service!

Lately, I have been going sew-crazy! I just started to sew items other than dog clothes, beds, and bag accessories … working on my first dress! I was looking for silk shantung to use for the dress I am working on, but turns out, this store is more of a potpourri of fabrics and trimmings and other miscellaneous items(various random patterns, buttons, ribbons, etc). I actually called them in advance to ask for silk shantung, and the lady could not give me a white and black answer … but she was very nice and trying to be helpful … So I decided to go and check it out! I ended up getting a few ribbon spools(all of various sizes) … 5 for $ 4!!! or 1 for $ 1… what a steal! They have all sorts of long bolts of fabric … but it’s hit or miss … the owner is the buyer and goes to NYC to buy whatever thinks suits her store. Great prices! Selection varies week to week! Store is located in a more run down area, plenty of parking in front of the store. Store looks like it was an old donut shop or something … Front is all windows, with filled with bolts of random fabric! Has a Bldg 19 feel to it … no finished floors, and just straight to business with bare bones of selling value fabric. 5 stars for prices … ¾ stores for selection, with average 4-ish stars!!! This is where I spend my money(well fabric and notions in general!) :)
