I played the front nine at Prairie West last weekend, and it was a great course. The shop personnel and other golfers were friendly and courteous, and I’d certainly visit again. The fairways, greens, and carts are well maintained. I wish there were more rough, hills, and trees between adjacent fairways, but what landscaping separated us from other golfers was sufficient. I did manage to lose two balls in tall grasses that were marked as environmentally delicate and not up for my stomping around. It was also the hottest day of the year(only 103 at 1pm — not nearly as bad as 106 at 7am that I play in Mesa in the summer), but the ever-constant Dakota wind kept us cool. It also wreaked havoc on a few of my drives, pushing the ball more than my poor swing ever did. A day later I went back to the driving range, and this time the wind helped. I didn’t see a marker indicating flag distance, but there were plenty of cart stands and even sand/seed for some patch fix-up. The practice area looks brand new and includes a big putting green and a bunker.
