Bob’s Handy Service

Our experience with Bob’s Handy Service was far from ideal and worth noting here.
We have a monthly maid service and while vacuuming they broke one of the bi-​fold doors to our home office. The owner of the company was very apologetic and offered to have his handyman, Bob, fix the doors. It took well over two months for the job to be completed and while the work seemed simple, Bob’s lack of confidence to get the job done was apparent, specifically shaving an 1/​8″ to ¼″ off the doors to get them to fit the space.
In terms of scheduling, his inability to return calls was also frustrating. When we did speak to him to schedule work his responses included answers such as: «Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday,» «Sometime tomorrow,» «Maybe around 10:30.» These were unsatisfactory answers as my wife was taking off work to approve the work in hopes of getting the job done as quickly as possible. On one occasion he was a no show when he said he would be there.
His lack of organization in terms of having us approve paint color and placement of the door handles could have been resolved in one meeting but that also dragged out into several phone calls. As the job continued to drag on, his frustration also became apparent, specifically in his short tone on the phone — something I would not expect from a professional.
The job was finally completed and the doors look nice but the long time frame, lack of clear organization and scheduling and abrasive tone left a lot to be desired.

Called Bob and left a message. He called back saying he would call me that afternoon to schedule him coming over to give an estimate. I had a leak that needed
immediate attention.
He never called.
I called him again the next day. This time he apologized and gave his word he would call me later that afternoon.
He never called.
The guy is a flake. He wasted my time, don’t let him waste yours. Call someone else.

I can’t say enough great things about Bob’s Handy Service. First off, Bob is always there when you need him, even in an emergency. He is excellent at EVERYTHING and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg. I started a business in the South Bay and hired him to help me do everything! I even drew some designs on a piece of paper and told him that’s what I wanted him to build… he of course laughed… and totally built it perfectly! And improved upon my ideas! I have worked with him now for 2 year on everything from lighting and electrical, plumbing, building maintenance and random fix-​it needs. If he can’t do it, he knows a great guy who can… and for a great rate. I wish I had more work for him because I love having his great energy around… super fun to work with and great at his job.
