This is a new dance studio that popped up around September 2012 in Manhattan Beach. My daughter has taken many genres of dance at Fifth Row Center including: Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz(several different kinds), Bollywood, Irish, and African. She comes from a competitive dance/cheer background, so the more advanced classes best suit her ability, but the studio offers many beginner and intermediate class levels as well. My daughter has been most influenced by Shamicka and Christopher, who are both very positive and electric people. Having experienced various dance curriculums in the South Bay, the vibe at Fifth Row Center is certainly unique. Most of the choreographers are also working dancers and as such, aren’t always available to commit to a weekly class. The theme remains the same amongst all of the teachers though. They want to inspire these young dancers to be passionate about movement and expression. The teachers also encourage these young(and impressionable) dancers to be exceptional citizens of the community, accepting of each other beyond their surface talents. I am sure that Sheri or Deborah, the owners, could explain a more fluid and inspiring mission statement, but I have been pleased with the basic morals they are including in the foundation of their business. The studio has a «cast» comprised of more serious dancers that is planning to compete each spring in at least one competition/convention. While the studio doesn’t aspire to host a truly competitive dance team, this cast is at least an opportunity for dancers to gain exposure to the competitive dance circuit. I am sure that regardless of how they do in competition, the teachers and students will be very proud of their accomplishments!
