Manhattan Beach Dentistry

I visited this dental office on a Groupon laser teeth whitening. I was greeted by a rude front office staff member that advised me that my IPhone screen shot of my Groupon coupon would not be accepted as Groupon advises that it will? I had to do a screenshot and email it to them to receive services. I recommend that they speak with Groupon to workout this policy issue. From there, I had a dental assistant who barely spoke any English so trying to find out how the process worked was impossible. She proceeded to adjust my chair to where I was basically almost upside down so she could put all kinds of protective equipment in my mouth which took approximately 20 minutes. After that another 20 minutes with the laser beam on in this same uncomfortable position. My complaint is why leave a patient in this position while the laser is on? The laser is adjustable, therefore you would think the dental assistant would adjust the seat to a more comfortable position for the laser part of the service? In addition, they take a lunch break from 1 to 2, my appointment was at 2. Please, be more conscientious of that fact so customers do not have to smell your lunch throughout their treatment!!!

I do not like dentists, so when I found out the dentist I was seeing for over 10 years was retiring, I was nervous about starting all over again! I generally prefer «old school» dentists that will not try to sell me invisalign or present me with a bid of $ 15 000 to replace all my old dental work. Dr. Hall will make recommendations based on immediate need, so when he noticed a crack in an old filling, I had no problem with the diagnosis. The problem was fixed in two visits (the second visit was only 15 minutes)! He did a great job at minimizing any discomfort during the procedure, and I would highly recommend him. The office is conveniently located and is very clean. Hopefully, he will not be retiring for at lease 10 years!

I like this dental office a lot! Dr. Hall has a pleasant demeanor, & is very sharp & informative. He makes you actually want to take better care of your teeth at home, between visits! Also, this office is extremely convenient to my home. One of the ladies on the admin. staff is very pleasant & helpful — Stephanie. I just signed my husband up, too, during my fairly new employer’s open enrollment in October — I will see that the Delta Dental HMO gets him assigned here, as I am. With my plan, my co-​pays are reasonable.
I wish the chairs in the waiting area were a little lower & more comfortable, but I usually don’t have to wait very long to go in, anyway. That’s the least of my concerns!

When did a dentist turn into a used car salesman? Most dentist are scam artists and try to sell you expensive treatments you don’t need. Dr. Hall is the most stand up respectful dentist I have ever met! I absolutely love him! The office has flexible hours and never a long wait. 5 star review for this place.

I have been going to this dental office for the past 4 years. The dentists are consistently either Dr Larry Hall or Dr Jean Fang. I have been treated very well by both of them, and they have even taking the time to educate me on prevention for my specific dental issues. They have both helped me a lot over the years, and they are very professional and knowledgeable. So I am really perplexed by the negative reviews on Unilocal.The one thing I would say is sometimes the front office does not seem that attentive and they aren’t super friendly (ie, they could smile a bit more).

I enjoyed coming here for years. I go to Dr. Fang for my routine teeth cleaning and I see Dr. Hall when I have occasional problem with cavities. Dr. Fang is thorough and reliable, she makes the whole process of seeing a dentist pleasant. Dr. Hall is very skilled the last time he fixed my cavity, there was no pain at all. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who is looking for some one to take care of their teeth.

My family has been going to Manhattan Beach Dentistry for years. Dr. Chen and Dr. Hall are excellent. Dr. Chen does a thorough cleaning on your teeth. Dr. Hall does the more complicated procedures. He walks you through each step and they both make you feel at ease. Stephanie and the office staff are friendly, yet professional.
The office staff work with you to offer the best price based on your insurance plan coverage or no insurance.
Would highly recemmend this dental office.

Believe the bad reviews! I went into Manhattan Beach Dentistry for a teeth cleaning. I made it very clear that the appointment was for a cleaning, but when I get in there, the dentist, Dr. Hall, does not even clean my teeth. He looks at my teeth, tells me what is the situation is with my teeth and gums and then directs me to reception so they can go over «expenses.» When I asked Dr. Hall why he had not actually cleaned my teeth, he said that I needed a deep cleaning, so there was no point.
Then the lady in charge of billing tells me that the deep cleaning sessions are broke into two parts and each cost $ 150 (she said $ 500 without insurance).
Basically, I wasted my teeth cleaning appointment on a consultation that pretty much told me that I really needed cleaning… which I already knew because that is what I made the appointment for.
I left Manhattan Beach Dentistry, and fifteen minutes later I was getting my teeth cleaned at my family dentist who is not covered by my insurance, so I had to pay out-​of-​pocket (the charge for the cleaning was still not even close to the $ 150, let alone $ 300, that Dr. Hall was charging for his deep cleaning session). In my opinion, it was a small price to pay to know that I was not going to be scammed by some shady dental office in Manhattan Beach.
Unless what you want is to become a victim of a scam, I would stay away from this place! There is a reason the ratings are so low!

I’ve been going there for a few years now and I’m happy with the service I’ve received. The place is slightly dated and dirty, but the staff is pretty friendly and I feel welcomed when I’m there. The only thing I didn’t like was a woman dentist trying to push a $ 90 «deep cleaning» on me when I was a couple months late for my 6 month visit. I knew I didn’t need it (I floss and use fluoride rinse daily) and asked if we could skip it this time and do a regular cleaning. She hesitantly said yes and proceeded to have my teeth cleaned the way they always have and my they were fine leading me to believe it was just a push to make more money. I had a friend tell me thy did this to her, too. Ever since then I’ve made sure I’ve gone on a day when I can see Dr. Hall and not that other dentist. He is always honest with me about what I need to do and gives me alternatives, if available.

I’ve been coming here for years and I love it! The receptionists are always very welcoming and friendly. The doctors are also great! Very professional and they do a great job by explaining everything they’re doing to your teeth. They also gave me numerous tips to help keep my teeth fresh. Prices are also a plus. :) Great dentistry overall.

Had an appointment yesterday for cleaning and I also wanted to get my teeth bleached.
I was very satisfied with the cleaning the dentist said I was doing a good job with my oral hygiene at home and all I needed was a regular cleaning… I was so proud of myself!!!
They took impressions of my teeth for bleaching trays I made an appointment to come back in 1 week to get my bleaching kit and trays. I want my teeth whitened before for the holidays :)
I was happy with the service but happier because I only paid $ 200 for teeth whitening and they gave me a goodie bag that had a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a lip balm

I was assigned to Manhattan Beach Dentistry through my HMO insurance. I read the reviews before going in for my cleaning appointment this morning, and was pretty scared. However, my experience was perfectly pleasant and unlike the negative Unilocal reviews. Both times I spoke with the receptionist on the phone, she was helpful and kind. The front office staff was friendly when I went in this morning, and the office was clean. The equipment looks nice and relatively new, and I didn’t see any stains on the ceiling.
Dr. Larry Hall was very friendly and is clearly passionate about his practice. He enthusiastically walked me through the various things I can do to improve the health of my teeth (all over the counter stuff, he wasn’t trying to sell me a dental procedure). He spent a lot of time with me and was gentle with my teeth. My visit cost $ 0, and I scheduled an appointment to come back in for three fillings ($ 25, $ 20 and $ 20). This all seems incredibly reasonable to me, and I am at a loss as to why so many people have bad things to say about this office. Perhaps there has been a turnover of staff and an office renovation since the last reviews.
I will update this review if my impression changes after receiving my fillings.

Absolute HACK! I had to switch dentists due to an insurance change at work. I had been to the dentist only 5 months ago and everything was fine. Now, after literally 3 minutes in a dirty chair in a dirtier office he tells me that I need $ 1200 worth of work! This is a scam and only an attempt to ring the register. STAY AWAY!

I went to this dental office for years, but everything went downhill when it was sold to some Armenians or Persians. Because I was busy, I put up with it for a few years, but finally got into so many fights with them that they fired me a patient. It was a fortunate thing as my new dentist has had to fix a bunch of things.
There are much better options out there.

This is my first Unilocal review (though I’ve been using Unilocal & reading others’ reviews for quite a long time). I am so disgusted and annoyed with Manhattan Beach Dentistry, I felt compelled to share…
Shady Business Practices
Wanted to charge me $ 650 for a crown that, according to my insurance company, should cost $ 150. After calling them out on it, having my insurance company call them directly 3 TIMES, AND having my insurance company fax them the current price list, they finally reduced the cost down to $ 350. The $ 200 disrepancy was for things that were not covered by my insurance, but come to find out later were TOTALLY UNNECCESSARY for my procedure. That’s how these people operate. They tell you that you need X, Y & Z, when in reality you only need X.
If you must get work done here, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND asking them exactly what «codes» (i.e. what procedures) they want to charge you for PRIOR TO SIGNING ANYTHING. They will be reluctant to give them to you, but DO NOT PAY THEM UNTIL THEY GIVE YOU THE CODES… they have to. Go home, google those codes and do some research. It’s easier than you might think, and you’ll probably find out half of them or often associated with «dentist fraud.»
Dr. Hall drilled my tooth and put a temp cap on in preparation for a permanent crown (to be installed a week later). The next day, I was in tremendous pain but could not come in to see him prior to a 5-​day trip I was going on (he convinced me I needed to have the procedure started PRIOR to my trip, which in hindsight was a bad idea). He would not prescribe any pain medication and basically told me to f*&* off. After my trip, I went back in and without taking the temp cap off, told me I needed a root canal and referred me to an endodontist at Manhattan Village Dental.
***MANHATTAN VILLAGE DENTAL IS OWNED BY THE SAME COMPANY AS MANHATTAN BEACH DENTISTRY AND THEY ARE BOTH SHADY****
After experiencing further shady practices at Manhattan Village Dental (same thing as above — wanted to charge me for «codes» that I didn’t need done), went to ANOTHER endodontist that I found through my insurance company. This was 3 weeks that went by since my original procedure and I was still in tremendous pain.
The new endodontist pulls the cap off, and sees that my tooth had been hemorrhaging for 3 weeks and squirted out blood. Not cool.
BOTTOM LINE
This practice takes advantage of a system that easy to take advantage of. You have no idea what they are doing to your teeth unless they tell you, and if they tell you something bogus, how are you supposed to know? It took me too long to figure that out at this office, and I regret ever going there. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM THEM AT ALL COSTS… GO ANYWHERE ELSE.
PS Those pics are DEFINITELY NOT from their office. The office is disgusting and there is absolutely not privacy between any of the chairs.

Total thief’s here. Insisted I had gingivitis and needed a deep cleaning @ $ 90. Wouldn’t provide a «regular cleaning» unless I paid the $ 90. The office is dirty and the seating in the waiting room has burn holes in them. Office staff is a bit unpleasant. in the 3 times I’ve been there I’ve been seen by 3 different dentists. The first time my teeth cleaning was so half assed I could have used my finger and got cleaner teeth. 0 Stars. I’m never going back.
And yes its true the picture on Unilocal is not the office. Liars!!!

Absolute crook. All of these 1 star reviews tell a true story -
Totally unethical business practices. Larry Hall takes advantage of senior citizen trust and naïveté and makes big bank doing it.
I watched a situation for a year and was absolutely blown away at how he sells and installs a new bridge — $ 5,000? — when visible to the eye is more decay that will need serious work within a year. He then, within a year, sold the person ANOTHER bridge when he took care of the work that should have been taken care of the last time. Even the oral surgeon was appalled at what he saw. Oh — and he makes these old people pay up front.
I sat in the waiting room and they left the door to the rear open, what I heard and witnessed from other staff was a total demonstration of the ‘trickle down theory’.
Take your friends & family elsewhere.

I agree! I’ve had 2 cavities my entire life and Dr. Hall told me I had 8!!! I left him fill 4, then got a second opinion on the others as the first 4 were «a rush.» I went back to my hometown dentist where he couldn’t find one out of four. I brought the report and findings back to Dr. Hall and he agreed to refund me half my money. Now I have 4 filled teeth that never even needed filling.
Terrible!

I went in July 09 and wait for it… had a TERRIBLE experience. Dr Larry Hall is a hack. Crushed my gums when he was flossing me (sounds sexual) and I floss regularly, never had an experience like that before.
I just called to get my file sent to my new dentist and they wanted a $ 40 fee, never heard of that before.
