One Wave Surf Training

Dave took my 14 yo son out for a private lesson. He picked a great beach with easy waves and worked him hard. He was very professional making the lesson worth every penny. My son is not a beginner so Dave was very good about evaluating my son to see what he knew and what he could teach him. The day was a great confidence booster and by the time he had his 90 min lesson and stayed another 90 min to practice he was sore the next day. Great Job!

My two daughters and I had a great time surfing yesterday. Our instructor Matt was very knowledgable and helpful and we had a great time. I would recommend one way surf company to anyone who lives or is visiting Southern California

We had a great time with Danny and Dave from OneWave Surf. I’ve never surfed before, but stood up quickly and many times. I also had many wipe outs but it was all fun. I’m definitely getting some friends to join me for another lesson with Onewave surf! They are great with all ages. My friends teenager was with is and so was my nine year old. Surfing is great for any age. Give it a try!!!

It was AWESOME learning from Tyler and the One Wave Surf crew!
They are really great instructors– patient and with a sense of humor. I learned a lot and am excited to keep practicing! After the class they leave you with «homework» of what you need to improve and they suggest a goal to complete before the next class. I had a great time and met other surfing friends to practice with.
I’ll be taking the next class soon!

I am really enjoying my surf education with Tyler. I want to learn to surf at a higher level. Thank you for helping me to surf more consciously. I am loving the technical aspects of our education, noticing the peaks and where other surfers are catching the waves that I miss. In the past, I never would have gone out on a day where the waves were overhead. When we went out last weekend, I felt comfortable and at ease in the break. Tyler thank you for helping to me to feel more confident in my abilities. I caught my first overhead wave last weekend. I found myself yelling «Woo Hoo» as I rode down the face. Can’t wait for our next lesson/​sesh!

Great experience from the beginning to the end!
I’ve always wanted to try to learn to surf but was too intimidated and didn’t know how to start. One Wave Surf was the perfect way to go! Spoke to Tyler on Saturday afternoon and he was able to schedule us for a Sunday morning lesson!
We got to the beach and our instructor was Danny. He was an excellent, lots of energy, knowledgeable, patient, kind and supportive. He made the experience great for myself and my 12 year old son. We both left saying we are surfers! We are going to practice up and be back for level 2!
All day after the lesson my son kept saying how much fun it was and how glad he was that we did it. Great bonding experience for us plus we have a new sport!
I would absolutely recommend One Wave Surf to anyone who wants to learn to surf.

Just had a great lesson with Tyler. Bought my husband a couples lesson for his birthday, it was money well spent. We will definitely do this again and can’t wait to sign our kids up for lessons as well.

OneWaveSurf is awesome! After calling several other locations (who turned us down and chastised us for trying to make last-​minute reservations) it was such a relief to call OneWaveSurf. They were super friendly and very accommodating to our last-​minute scheduling. Our private lesson with Clay was so fun! He explained everything thoroughly and was very patient as we were struggling to get the hang of it! We’re even thinking of coming back to do the week-​long surf camp and, of course, it will be with OneWaveSurf.

My kids, nieces, nephews and I all took surf lessons for the very first time. There was a total of 8 of us ranging from age 11 to 45 and we all had such a great time and were able to actually get up on the boards and surf. I called several surf lesson companies and One Wave had the best price, always called me back, replied promptly to my emails and texts, kept me well informed and showed up on time with all the proper equipment. Their instructions were clear and they kept us safe and well prepared for what to expect. They even prepared our bodies with some yoga lessons! All the kids and I had such a great time with our very first surfing experience thanks to Tyler and his experienced crew at One Wave. I would highly recommend them to everyone.

My boyfriend and I had such a great time taking a lesson from Clay. He was great at giving us clear instruction and making our lesson a fun, exciting learning experience.

A s Unilocal would describe it, One Wave Surf is as good as it gets. I took several lessons from them (both groups and individuals). My lessons with Ty. Prior to the lessons, Ty took the time to find out what my surfing goals were, whether I was learning to surf for the long term or whether it was just for a surf experience, the latter were mostly for people who were just visiting and wanted to experience surfing, i. e standing up on a surf board and etc.
My group surf lesson experience were more than I expected. We only had 5 people in the group, but this was intentional so Ty had more time with each surfer. Ty spent an ample amount of time explaining how to read the ocean and how certain things affect the wave conditions. Ty used to be a 5^th or 6^th grade science teacher so his explanations were thorough and simple to understand. He is also very patient, I’m assuming it’s by nature given he was an elementary teacher. Yes, I asked him all of this… that’s how I know he’s patient. O_​o
After ocean fundamentals, Ty warmed us up with yoga. He explained how each yoga move is essential for surfing. He explained what muscle group to focus on with each stretch and how the move correlates with surfing. After yoga, Ty spent time teaching us the basic water safety, where to lay on the board, how to stand, and etc (all important surfing fundamentals).
In the water, Ty spent time with the group as well as individually. He watched closely and provide immediate feedback on our paddling, body placement on board, catching a wave, standing and etc. I appreciated that we immediately applied all surfing fundamentals covered on land in the water since it was still fresh in my mind, it made executing them easier.
Without further rambling, my experience with One Wave Surf was indeed excellent. I would definitely come back for more lessons. They also give referral discounts so that’s definitely a plus. I referred my friend to One Wave Surf and he also found the lessons useful, but that’s his experience to write about!

We had Tyler as our instructor and it was awesome. Very knowledgable about the ocean and surfing. Patient and encouraging. Strongly recommend this place for people who want to try surfing. I was a little scared at first but he talks you through everything and stays with you and your board the entire lesson which helped me stay more calm. Caught two pretty good waves which I think was great for my first time ever!

One Wave Surf was perfect! They accommodated our request for a specific day and time given our limited time in LA. I bought the Living Social special as a surprise for my 13 year old son. We hit a lot of cities during our vacation and when we arrived back home and I asked my son what was the highlight of his trip, he said surfing.
Dave was our instructor and he was awesome! He was super thorough, informative and patient. The goal was to get my son on the board which he was quickly able to do and I got it on video. Dave was really great and I’m so happy I was able to find One Wave Surf. Thank you so much and next time we are in LA, we will definitely be calling you guys!

I’ve seriously never surfed before in my life, naturally I was a bit nervous to try it so I set up a lesson with these guys. Dave was my instructor and right out the gate I learned so much about this sport even before stepping in the water. Being a first timer, I never expected to be able to stand and ride a wave the first day, Dave had me standing by the second wave.
All in all, I plan on making future lessons with One Wave and I’m excited to get back and learn more and have my friends try it as well.

I stood up! That is the best description. Our teacher was fun and knowledgeable. Manhattan beach spot is super cute and we enjoyed hanging around the rest of the day. My suit was kinda big, but it was ok

I stumbled upon this surf school while browsing for deals on LivingSocial. My friend and I had been wanting to learn, but most of the places we looked at were just too expensive. We decided to purchase the voucher because it was just such a great deal: 90 minute private surf lesson for 2 including wetsuit and board rental for ~$ 130 total.
The staff was really responsive with emails and got us set up for our last minute lessons. I appreciated how clear and detailed the instructions were for what to bring/​where to meet/​etc about the actual lesson.
The day of, we showed up 10 minutes early to the meeting spot and our instructor, Gia was already there waiting. She was super friendly and gave us a thorough walk through of the plan for the day. After some stretching, we quickly go to learning about the correct form and technique to be successful. She was really great at adjusting to our level of experience (little to none) and was extremely patient and encouraging throughout the entire lesson.
All in all, I would definitely recommend taking a lesson with One Wave!

Great intro surfing lesson with Jamie!!! Board and wetsuits were included and we went straight into the water near Manhattan Beach after some stretches and practice popping up. It was lots of fun and I would highly recommend One Wave Surf. If you are reasonably athletic and can swim, you will be surfing in no time!

I’ve been surfing a few times before but didn’t really understand how to turn or read the waves. Our instructor was really helpful with that, and very positive. I’d definitely go back and have him teach me again.

Just got back to NYC from our trip to Hermosa Beach, CA. It was my two friends, my boyfriend and my first time in Cali and we never surfed before. I booked a one day lesson for us on Tuesday. The whole experience was awesome!
Booking was easy and they were in constant contact to make sure it all went smoothly.
Our instructors were Jamie and Dave. We met at Manhattan Beach and had the boards and wetsuits ready. They waste no time and get right into the lessons. They were easy to understand and patient. Although I only stood on the board for a split second, their relaxed and confident support had me running right back in those waves. They gave me enough basics to get a proper understanding of what to do. All that was left to do was practice.
FYI, I was sick that day and the waves were rough but I was determined to get as much surfing as I could, I was having a blast!
DEFINITELY recommend these guys!!! I’ll make sure to see them next time I go to SoCal.
