ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism

I have been a student at ArborVitae for one year now and could not be happier to have found an herb school in New York City. What stands out to me most about the school is the diversity in teaching staff; our classes are taught by herbalists from around the country and the world, which affords us students a variety in class subjects. For example, in our first year, we were able to study Ayurveda, TCM, humoral medicine, flower essences, medicine making and nourishing foods, just to name a few topics.
ArborVitae’s curriculum is rigorous but fun. I am planning on completing the school’s three-​year program, after which I will have a theoretical and practical base from which to start my own herbal practice. Because its classes are small, students are given a lot of time and personal attention from the school’s two founding herbalists.
I am part of the full-​time program, and the scheduling and payment plans are flexible enough for me to be able to go back to school while maintaining jobs and other responsibilities. And even though we are in the city, the school tries to give us as many opportunities to be with the plants as possible in the form of field trips and plant walks. Before this, I didn’t think it was possible to study herbs in New York city, but ArborVitae has been making that possible, as well as opening my eyes to the herbal revival here in NY.
