Newly renovated which is a huge improvement from the dungeon it used to be. Small basketball court(would be better if they allowed you to play volleyball on the courts), a squash court, a large mirrored multi-purpose room for classes etc, second floor with ample cardio machines, and a machined and free weight area. The free weight area is pretty small, but they have a good selection of weights and kettle weights too. Overall not too shabby. Worst part: the elevator to get down there is ANCIENT. Literally takes forever to move up and down 3 floors. Take the stairs if they’re open!

Today was the first time I stepped into the gym since my open house tour 2 years ago. They were hosting its ribbon cutting ceremony with complimentary tours and reception. They recently renovated the weight lifting section and upgraded the aerobic equipments. It is now a lot brighter than it used to be too. I think they added more light fixtures. Still a very cramped space but it’s NYC. u don’t get much space to start with. Appreciate Columbia’s effort and happy to see where my tuition money is going. They said they will be renovate the pool next. Too bad I can’t swim and hopefully I will be a graduate by then!

Beggars cannot be choosers, but honestly this gym could use a face lift. I am sure Columbia has money… I am a student here, so this gym comes to me for FREE. Now, I am not complaining about anything FREE, but seriously, this gym needs some work. It is located on the ground floor of the building and the gym is small but it has all your essential needs. It has 8 treadmills(the machine I am most concerned with), a few ellipticals, a few gauntlets, some stationary bikes, a row machine and a few stair climbers. They also have another room for weights and an group exercise room. I have seen spinning classes going on when I come to run. They also have racquetball courts and also an indoor basketball court. Oh yes, there is also a swimming pool and saunas in the changing area. It really isn’t that bad, but it just irks me when 4 of the8 treadmills are OUTOFORDER. It also doesn’t help that since gym is on the ground floor, it rarely gets any air circulation, so when you walk in, you can taste the stale air. But despite all these complaints, it gets the job done, and that’s what matters in the end.
