Best Weaving & Mending

If you have any weaving or intricate mending needs, this is the place. I don’t know if Barbara’s official title is tailor, seamstress, wizard, or magician but she is an awesome miracle worker! Anthony is honest, trustworthy and a true gentleman. They have expertly repaired expensive suits of mine that I was ready to throw out but luckily turned over to Anthony & Barbara. I have also been here and been told that my clothing isn’t worth the cost to repair… and they were right! I Love the fact that they don’t just look to take your money. Skilled, ethical, and friendly. Their type of business approach and customer service is a dying breed. Highly recommend this business.

I went to Best Weaving and Mending expecting high quality service repairs, and I was met with impatience and a bad attitude. I had been to the place before, so I was surprised when I saw it had changed location and was now a small hole-​in-​the-​wall shop that was dishevelled and lacking workers. I was naturally concerned that this was not high-​quality mending service company I had come to in the past. So I had some questions about the company and their services, but the man got frustrated and told me he wouldn’t answer any more questions. He told me since I don’t «trust them» then he won’t fix my sweaters. I was standing there with a dozen sweaters, and he turned away all that business because he was too impatient to answer a customers questions. If I’m going to pay top price for something, I’d at least like to have decent customer service.

They’ve helped save a few of my suits for a few more years. Good work nice people. Key is to only get items fixed that would cost more if you replaced them.

At first this small as a broom closet cramped office was of-​putting. Anthony, who is a sales person par excellence, told me that he could not guarantee a perfect job, in fact, I would still see where the repair was made. For $ 500 for two items, I did not know if the expense was worth it, but bit the bullet. After all they were expensive items.
When I picked up the items three weeks later, I was amazed. I could hardly see the repairs — even when held to the light. My Prada scarf and shirt looked like new.

Went to this place for a quote on repairing 2 pairs of pants. It’s one little hole on each pants and they quoted me $ 400 to fix them. Ridiculous!!! He looked at the brands before giving me that price because he must think that if I was willing to pay for a designer suit, i shouldn’t have any problems paying $ 200 per pants to repair the pants that goes with the suit. No standards for pricing at all!!! Rip-​off!

This is a New York treasure. Barbara is an artist – her work is impeccable. And Anthony is a character and will happily chat and tell you stories, so allow extra time, because it’s FUN. This is one of those very rare services that is more or less a lost art, and the quality of the work is extraordinary. Best Weaving does work for customers all over the world, who send clothing from the finest labels and couture houses. The service is expensive – it cost almost 30% of the purchase price of a coat to have moth holes repaired in it, but it’s a high-​quality coat, and a garment I felt was worth the repair. I would not take a Gap sweater to Best Weaving. The other factor to keep in mind is that they are always backed up with work, so you should not be in a hurry. Allow several weeks for your project to be done. But it’s totally worth it.

Sure enough, I had to go back, and they worked magic. Go!

Here’s the thing: They do good work. I brought them a dress in an intricate cotton material the had gotten snagged and the threads were getting loose. But, though the owner is very friendly, he is not very responsive. When I brought the dress in, he wasn’t there, so I was told to leave my number. Hours later, no call. So I had to call and arrange for them to indeed fix the dress.
Weeks later, no one had notified me to tell me it was done. When I called and found out it was ready, I came in at 9 a.m. (the place is supposed to open at 8:30) the next day and no one was there. When I called a half hour or so later, I left a message asking if they could just ship or deliver it to me. No call back.
FINALLY, I call a few days later and the owner is there. We arrange for him to drop off the dress at my apartment, and I leave the money with my doorman. A few days later, I get the dress.
Luckily, the owner is nice enough, and the work good enough, that I would still recommend them. You just have to be very persistent.
