This club was a very bad first time experience, for one there where like 50 birthday parties there when I got there the line was around the corner and they was not letting ppl in, there was suppose to be a guest list but it wasn’t, the bouncers were taking side money and to top it off ppl that got tickets didn’t even get a chance to get inside because the police came and shut it down so no I will not be going back to this club ever… and it’s one star for the DJ

This place is okay. Could definitely do with some improvements, though. On the night I went there was a decent sized line to get in but thankfully we didn’t have to wait outside in the below freezing weather to get in. When we got inside it wasn’t that crowded so it was evident that they were just keeping a line outside to make it seem more crowded than it was. Understandable, but it was REALLY cold that night. Once we got inside the coat check line was a disaster. It was literally taking people over an hour to check their coats — not cool when all you want to do is drop off your coat & get to dancing. Ultimately, I strung my coat on my purse strap and kept it with me the whole night. Not the worst thing in the world but a bit of an inconvenience. If you’re going to offer a service like that, at least do it correctly. The next issue I had was with the bartender. I went up to the bar with a male friend and we ordered two drinks from a female bartender, he paid for them and it was $ 16. Later in the night I went to the same bartender and ordered the same two drinks and she charged me $ 20. First of all, the drinks are in tiny cups and are mostly ice, so charging $ 8/drink is highway robbery anyway, even by NYC standards, but to charge me $ 2 more per drink for no apparent reason? Not cool. When I questioned her about it she just said«Oh yeah, that’s how much they are tonight.» Again, not cool. The bathrooms were decent, nothing special but nothing horrific either. Sound system was not bad either. I’d come back if some improvements were made & there was an artist who I really wanted to see but otherwise I don’t think I’d waste my time.

I was here on NYE and was accosted by a female bouncer. She was crazy. She insisted upon feeling me up and would not stop! She kept squeezing and fondling my breast. She though I had something in my bra but it was my underwire. She even looked at my naked breast. I was completely and totally appalled and have never been treated so disrespectfully ever. She should be fired. Furthermore the club itself was not appealing. Maybe because it was NYE and everyone was cracked out. I will never return.

Went to a few electronic music events here with very good artists. Venue has a very nice vibe but is also very tiny. Sound system is decent quality, definitely not bad, but nothing amazing. Good for the size of the venue. My main qualm with this venue is the security guards. I’ve noticed them be very handsy, even noticing a security guard put his hand inside the front side of a male partygoer’s pants! Not to mention that they will often try and get a bribe in any way they can(frequently from people without state ID).

ANOTHEREDIT: Received a message from Joe Z., the club manager. Evidently, he’s looking at the reviews here, and taking them under consideration. It’s also come to my attention that Unilocal!is filtering out some of the earlier reviews for some reason, though they seem to be valid. With both of these considerations, I’m increasing my rating from two stars to three. The other reviewers seemed to enjoy the club and I think it’s great that the manager is checking these reviews out, and taking the time to get in touch with the patrons. I’m more likely to return to Club 39 now that I’m a little more aware of the«mindset» of the club. However, my overall opinion on the club stands at the moment. POST-SHOWUPDATE: Low ceilings. $ 6 for a PBR, Budweiser, or Bud Light. $ 8 for a Corona. Shot girls with trays of monkey juice. Bottle-service-only tables. Bathroom attendants for bathrooms that are too small. In short, almost everything you’d expect from a club near Times Square. Though I’m certain that only non-NYC residents could think a Times Square club could be good, let me be clear: avoid on general principal. Want a great club? Check out Cielo for classy, get in to Sullivan Room for dirty. One might make an exception for some exceptional performers — Ott was massively good, and the sound system at Club 39 was delicious.(Cielo’s is better!) I’ll be on the lookout for more shows here, but the only reason I’d head back will be for a show. Of course I’ll look to see if they’re playing elsewhere first… ORIGINALREVIEW: Visiting the club tonight for«Ott & The All-Seeing I» which I’m very much looking forward to. However, felt the need to post this preliminary review due to the lack of info available for the club. What time is headliner scheduled to start? What’s the dress code? Would love to see all the performers, but life is busy. Not unreasonable to want to know when the main performer is going to play. And there’s so many clubs in NYC, all with varying dress codes from none to strict… The answering machine has a message that simply says in an accented voice«clubthirtynine» BEEEP — with no further info. Seriously? This is the best you guys can do? Two stars so far; will update after the show.

My first visit here had a few hiccups, I was contacted by the club staff immediately after leaving my review. Had a great discussion with the staff, and decided I would give them another shot, and I’m very happy I did, we really enjoyed seeing Govinda & Ott! They have a Great Sound System, The club is a smaller intimate setting and it’s located downstairs underground, there was some cool merch tables set-up and the bar had three or four tenders. Looking forward to seeing more great performances here very soon!
