A perfectly functional black box theater with an excellent location. I’ve seen a few iterations of Forbidden Broadway here and most recently went to see Daddy Long Legs. Seats are comfortable but the theater is older, so modern large American booties may not fit so comfortably. Leg room is about average, I could see a tall person hitting their knees on the seat in front. Also the front row of seats is literally right up against the stage but they usually don’t seat people there. Bathrooms are small and in the basement, they are small but honestly most of the upscale Broadway theaters had similarly sized restrooms up until recent renovation. I’ve never been seated upstairs so I cant speak the how comfortable the mezz might be. Sound and lighting have always been good for any production I’ve seen here. The location is right in midtown/Hell’s Kitchen area, so its extremely convenient to grab dinner and drink nearby before heading in for a show. The Davenport is a great little theater and I look forward to seeing their next productions.

Saw«Caesar 16» here, performed by the wheelhouse theater company. The cast was fantastic, they appeared to be having so much fun, they were so synchronized in their moves, and innovative modern production of a classic. I loved it! first time seeing a production of Julius Caesar and I’m so glad I came. The theater is small, but comfortable, the staff was super friendly, bathroom is very large and clean, elevator access as well. Wheelhouse theater company, also provided complementary preshow beer and wine.

This theater is small and cozy … The capacity is only about 150 seats. There are only 5 seats to the right and 5 seats to the left. BUT it was so HOT inside it was uncomfortable watching the show. Restrooms are from the 50’s; small, cramp, and long lines in the basement. The ladies tell me it felt like a phone booth; can’t move and you will hit your heat on the door.

Daddy Long Legs features great singing in a small theater at a very reasonable price – see it!

This small theater is just off of 9th ave just steps from smackery’s cookies. Just found out tonight they have a black box theater on their third floor. Been here many times and seen many great shows here. They have hosted forbidden Broadway that I have seen many times. Currently show Daddy long legs is running based on well known book. Definitely can bring kids to the show.

How has no one ever reviewed this space??? I’ve seen two shows here over the course of my years in NYC. For off-bway, it’s a really decent space. Small stage, but the productions make it work. Full technical capabilities, decent sound system, acoustically dead, but the sound is mixed pretty well to compensate. They have a balcony, and a spiral staircase leading up to it! Props on that. Tiny space, narrow, seats tend to rock if someone in your row(or the one behind you ;-P) shifts. But, for Off-Bway? Great location, friendly staff, and a winner!
