Eric Carter Hair

I got a groupon for here and was treated like a regular client. Eric even did my hair himself. I went in with a slight idea of what I wanted. highlights and a layered cut and came out LOVING my hair.
They even threw in a deep conditioning treatment for free.
I would DEFINITELY go back for another haircut, but probably not for the highlights. The cut made my hair feel so soft and light, yet still looked long and thick. So the 5 stars is for the cut, but the highlights were a little chunky and not as natural as I had asked for.
Anyways, totally recommend!

He’s not very personable. Or, maybe my being his first appointment of the day (around 11 a.m.) just wasn’t his time of day? Nevertheless, he’s in a profession where you have too, no matter what, make your clients feel comfortable and welcomed. Or, maybe that’s just his personality? In any case, I have naturally curly hair and brought a picture with me of what I wanted it to look like. Nothing complicated. Really full and «bob like.» Well…, one month later and I look like I have a mullet. I wouldn’t even bother calling him to see if he can fix it. I’ll pass…

Best haircut and Highlights I have ever had! Eric is an amazing artist, I signed up for Unilocal just to review him that’s how great his highlights are. He is very fast and accurate, my highlights look so beautiful and natural. Also the cut is very perfect he took the extra time to make sure it was perfectly straight in the back and gave layers around my face. He took so much care in fact that I ended up closing the place. Also, his assistant gave me an amazing scalp massage while shampooing my hair and a really nice blowout afterwards. You feel like a rockstar at this place and your looks and feels like it the next day! He is by far the best haircut and highlights in the city as far as I’m concerned.

Eric is a really sweet guy. I came in with a Bloomspot deal and everything but the cut was fantastic. Unfortunately, the cut was not up to mark. In the salon, things seemed fine, but I should have known better because my hair is naturally wavy and the style I showed should work easily with wavy hair. Eric blow dried my hair straight and then curled it, which looked lovely in the salon. However, by the time I arrived home, I realized that the curling hid a basically super boring haircut. I was going for Elizabeth Olsen, I look like a middle-​aged mom. Will have to take it elsewhere to get fixed, but not exactly what I was hoping for. Because Eric is so booked, I doubt he’d have time to fix it. He seems lovely so I wish him all the best, just didn’t work out here.
Edit: Washed out hair, played with it, it’s okay. Still not quite what I had hoped for, but a good cut and overall for the price, 3 stars.

It’s been 3.5 months since I had my first cut with Eric Carter. Can I just simply RAVE??? Although my bangs are now too long (my fault, should have gotten in earlier), the cut still falls really well and looks good. I’m hoping to have my 2^nd cut shortly, but just HAD to mention how amazing this guy is with hair!

I originally went to Eric after buying a Lifebooker coupon to get my hair dyed black. He was nice enough, and was cheaper than my usual hair stylist whose main work is in high fashion for magazines like Marie Claire. So when I wanted to have extensions put in, I contacted Eric again.
The package of extensions I had bought specified that they were a full head. And I knew they were, because I had used them once before –when my hair was even shorter. When I showed Eric what I had, he confirmed that it would be more than enough.
Unfortunately, the way that Eric put them into my hair was not evenly dispersed, with all of the extensions I had put in at the bottom half and back of my head. The end result was not something I felt uncomfortable walking around in public with, to say the least.
So he began trying to move the extensions around, taking those out that were already glued into my hair, which I have to say wasn’t exactly the most pleasant feeling I’ve ever experienced. After enduring six of them ripped out and moved around I saw my hair was still completely unblended and uneven, so I told him I would just go buy another entire pack of extensions to fix this mistake.
Because this was a completely unexpected cost (and one due to what I can only attribute to his own miscalculation/​lack of experience), Eric was kind enough to agree to accept a post-​dated check for his services, to be cashed just four days later. So I put on a hat, left the salon, and ran six blocks and four avenues to buy more extensions.
He ended up needing to use the entirety of this additional pack as well, and by the time he was done, it was 5:30. (This all began at 1:15 and was supposed to take two hours). But I thought. whatever. What’s done is done. I wrote out the post-​dated check for $ 360, which didn’t include any of the hair –but did include a generous 20% tip, and left.
But this morning I saw that my account was completely overdrafted, $ 60 of which was in bank fees. Because the check that I was promised would not be cashed until Tuesday, was in fact cashed the moment I left the salon. So I called Eric several times to see why he’d done this. Texted him. No response. When I finally wrote that if he didn’t respond via phone I was going to have to come down there and deal with it in person, he wrote back, blaming it on his assistant.
I was flipping out a little. I mean, I felt like I’d been taken advantage of and lied to. And after having to cover the costs of my father’s entire funeral, I just couldn’t deal with this unexpected «mistake» which completely fcked me over financially. So I asked that he fix it — just put the money back into my account so I had something to get me through til Tuesday when I could come in with a new check. He said he would.
But then he wrote back a few minutes later and said that actually, he wasn’t going to do any of it. That I paid for his services and it was done. And that this was my punishment for handling the situation too emotionally. That I shouldn’t have threatened to come down there. But is there really another option when someone has your money and won’t answer your calls?
So thanks, Eric. Or your assistant. Or whomever’s fault this was. But it wasn’t mine. No matter how upset I was to wake up and find you’d gone back on our agreement.
And a real thank you to my real stylist who graciously found the time for me this morning, at no cost, to cut my hair evenly and fix what was done. I won’t stray from him again.

Eric is fantastic! He did a beautiful job fixing a previously botched color job from another salon. He’s also very easy to talk to and really nice.

Bought a Bloomspot to try this salon. Eric was pretty booked up, which I could understand based on the good reviews and the great Bloomspot deal ($ 35 for a deep conditioning treatment and a cut/​blow dry), which usually goes for $ 135. Finally I was able to get an appointment at 12pm on a Sunday– weeks in advance. I got to the salon at 11:50am, so that I wasn’t late. I WAS NOT TAKEN UNTIL 1:30pm. Eric and other staff were very apologetic, but seriously, 1.5 hours AND I had an appointment AND was on time? Very unprofessional. I would have left if I hadn’t waited months to get an appointment to begin with. Eric said he accidentally double booked, yet, he made sure to take the client paying full price first. I’m not from NYC, so it’s not like I was able to leave and come back– why should I have had to anyway? It doesn’t seem that this happens often because I didn’t see any other reviews about this, but once was enough for me.
I sat with the conditioning treatment on my head for nearly an hour – they rolled the heat setter to the «welcome couch» because things were crazy in the salon, so everyone got to see me me, my cap, and treatment on the welcome couch. Again, not my favorite.
To his credit, once he took me (1.5 hours late) he did take time on my hair.
The cut itself wasn’t my favorite either. To be fair, I didn’t quite know what I wanted anyway and was too annoyed to pay attention while the cut was occurring to say anything in my favor.
Overall, Eric is actually a very nice guy and I wish him well, but waiting 1.5 hours when I was ON TIME and had an APPOINTMENT set for weeks was both inappropriate and a complete disregard for someone’s time.
If you get the Bloomspot I would say to try it, but do not tolerate double bookings and just walk out.

Not only is Eric an all around lovely person, he is great at carrying out your vision or giving you a cut/​color when you have no clue what you want. He truly cares about his clients and will make sure you love it before he rests. I couldn’t be happier with the services I received. Thanks Eric!

It’s been over two months since Eric cut and colored my hair. I have really curly hair and have gone to curly hair cutters for over 10 years and have appreciated how they have treated my hair but I was looking for a change. More style, maybe taking a chance on layering. I love my hair, I am amazed how it still looks great and how the color (through a tropical vacation spent primarily in the ocean) is holding. The highlights he gave me were exactly what I was looking for — camouflaging the grey and slowing the demarcation line of incoming hair. My hair grows fast so it can be pricey keeping up with color, and I feel like I could go at least another month before I went in for a touch up. The cut has grown out beautifully — loved it from the start, but love it even more now. i didn’t have to go into long explanations of what I wanted and felt Eric heard me the first time and gave me exactly what I asked for which is an anomaly as far as I’m concerned. I actually bought a session with him at an online auction benefiting a friend’s children’s school, and had no idea what was in store. Wow. I spent more than I had budgeted on the color, but it was well worth it. And I will keep on going to Eric, who is a rare find.

Would it be wrong to admit I’ve been obsessed with my mirror since leaving Eric’s chair yesterday? How about if I tell you I’m side-​eying my mirror right now… so please forgive any typos.

Eric couldn’t have been sweeter (even when I showed up 10 min late with a sweaty head from hauling ass through the summer heat). I purchased a Bloomspot deal online, so one always assumes to be treated a little… differently…but he was wonderful!
I told him what I wanted for my hair (think lost 3 year old), but he knew exactly what to do. I depend on these professionals, like cab drivers, to know their stuff. But isn’t it shocking how few do?
Eric is not one of them. He knows his stuff. Thank. God.

I’ve been seeing Eric Carter since September 2011, I previously went to a few salons down in the LES, West Village (& occasionally around Herald Sq.), but before Eric it was a while since I had had a truly excellent & communicative stylist.
For my first appointment, I came in to get my hair cut & colored for a job that I was going on. Unfortunately, the cut was not up to the standard of the workplace. I contacted Eric a week or so after the original cut & he had me come in for an additional trim at no extra charge!!!
At this point, I cannot image seeing a new stylist — Eric is great at developing a real rapport with his clients. At no time during my appointment do I feel rushed or hurried; also, he’s a cutie & a sweetie which is also greatly appreciated!

I’m a born & raised New Yorker and have been to the top salons from the time i was a toddler. Eric is the BEST stylist/​colorist I have ever been to. He saved my hair from what is/​was considered one of the «topt» salons in the city. I get my hair cut, colored, blown out and I now get extensions, which are taped in and are completely UNnoticeable.
I refer everyone I know to him because he loves what he does and it shows in how he works on you. I highly recommend you get to this salon asap.

Eric is really awesome with guys cuts. I’ve had my hair short and longer and Eric has helped me transition looks and give me an «edge.» He knows how to bring out face shape and is a good collaborator when I have ideas about what I want.
