Furry Fiends

Furry Fiends (no, that is not a typo) is, by far, the best pet store in Northern Manhattan. My two dogs and I have been living in Inwood for 4 years and they were a blessing since day one. Their customer services is always top notch and they have the best selection of dog food, treats (the freeze dried liver treats for dogs are AMAZING!), toys, and other pet «maintenance» items. Their delivery service is also great. I’ve always gotten my orders within a couple hours of calling in.
They are also incredibly welcoming to all pets. However, there are a couple cats that live in the store, so if you have a pet that isn’t great with cats, I would advise against bringing your pets in there.
The only other thing I would mention is that Furry FIends is a little pricey. But since it’s a locally owned business, I’m more than happy to pay the extra few bucks to support the community and avoid having to go all the way down to 96^th street to go to PetCo.

Furry Fiends is one of my favorite places in my neighborhood. My dog Parsley is treated like a queen every time she goes in. The selection of treats, food, and gear is fantastic, and delivery is a wonderful bonus feature, but the best part of Furry Fiends is the people who run it. Amin knows my dog’s favorites, he’s always lovely to me and my partner, and he and his staff go above and beyond, making costumes feel like friends and family. It’s the best pet store I’ve ever visited, and I’m lucky to live so nearby.

I’ve always loved this store since we moved into the neighborhood 2 years ago. We pop in, infrequently to say hello, buy some food or cat supplies or just to pet Ezekiel the cat.
Today — they just completely blew me away and made me feel so proud to live in Inwood. I left my husband in our 4^th floor walk up with our cat, screaming for food as I went to work. He thought he’d hobble downstairs at some point to get her food. I gave Furry Friends a call and while I felt horrible asking them to deliver just 12 cans of cat food, they were SO GREAT! They said they’d deliver food to him within the hour and did not charge us a fee or any minimum.
Thank you guys, from the absolute bottom of my heart. We’ll be back!

Great local pet store. All the people that work there are extremely nice and helpful, and they have a very funny shop cat.

I love this place! They are super friendly and helpful, they are very precise with their delivery. They always give me good advice about my dog.

I’ve lived here in the northern Manhattan area for a number of years now, and have done business with Furry Fiends («Fiends»? Really?) on a number of occasions throughout that time. I can tell you from firsthand experience that FF absolutely deserves every star it gets on Unilocal.
Amin is without fail one of the most helpful business owners I have ever encountered. He consistently goes out of his way to serve his customers, with a fantastic proactive attitude, often anticipating your needs even before you do. If he doesn’t already have the product your pet needs, he will get it for you — then follow up with a phone call as soon as it’s in stock. The fast, free delivery comes in darned handy as well.
The product selection is very good, the prices reasonable, and the service is outstanding. What more could you want?

This place is so friendly, so helpful, and takes such pride in providing you with excellent service that it makes your whole day. Hard to find stores like this anymore. Prices are as good as a big box store and they carry great products. The grooming next door is also awesome. Barry did the impossible and cut my dog’s nails– perfectly I might add!

I love giving business to my local places. Furry Fiends always have the products I like and the owner is super friendly and knows me by name! It doesn’t get any better than this.

I was just in here as I saw online that they had Bravo Balance raw food there and it’s just a nice-​day walk distance from my house.
They didn’t have much selection of Bravo, but they did have a lot of other raw pet food for cats and dogs, organics, grain frees, plus the usual stuff like Friskies.
The shop is small and a little cramped feeling for me but not unusual for shops around here. Lots of food, snacks, some toys and leashes and such as one would expect.
I was kind of lost while looking through the raw cat food freezer options since they only had one flavor of Bravo and it was beef… I’m just about to start transitioning my cat over and read that poultry flavors are best to do so with, in general so that was out… I was reading bags and pamphlets and such as some of the names I recognized as good options from online reading and some I didn’t. I finally settled on a chicken one and took it up to the front.
The man was very friendly and gave me some input on raw diets for cats and that I should try the other size of food than I had… I’d grabbed the «medallion» size which is little hunks of food and he suggested for a cat to try the «bites» size which is smaller and closer to dry kibble foods tend to be.
The price was comparable to what I’d expected from online, no huge markup there.
I’ll definitely go back there for supplies, whether if it’s for this food or another or other items. They were very nice, helpful, and good stock available.

Me and my girlfriend are new to the area and we were losing hope that good people existed around us… then we found Furry Fiends.
We got our little cat neutered with the ASPCA’s mobile veterinary clinic that pulls up outside this store front earlier that day. He was not happy with his cone.
I called these guys up later that day begging for advice, I’ve seen some of the other reviews and they are VERY true. They offered me a more comfortable collar for my cat and BOOM my cat calmed down ate a little and fell asleep. They even had that special litter ‘Yesterday’s News’ I’m not sure if the actual product is great but…
If YOU are a pet owner that just had their pet go through a surgery of any kind THESE ARE THE GUYS TO HELP YOU AND PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE!!!
The place is clean, organized, inviting. AND OPEN SATURDAYS!
I will go to them from now on for all my pet needs!

So thankful this store is in my neighborhood!!! Owner and staff very helpful and friendly. Also when I cannot make it in, they are happy to deliver free of charge! It is always a pleasure to do business with them. They are always well-​stocked with the best brands of top-​quality holistic dog/​cat food!
And my dogs are always happy to go with me, for the staff gives out free treats to all visiting pooches! :)

gotta jump on the bandwagon here. amine is a very thoughtful and smart business man. furry fiends is a well run store with lots of products to offer — and he will special order anything for you. free delivery is great.
only 4 stars because some of the staff just aren’t as great as the owner.

The new store is great, with much more space than the old one. Service is just as good, of course, if not better. If there’s something you want that you don’t see in the store, just ask and Amine will either find it or order it for you.

You can find just about everything you could possibly want for your four legged friend in this shop and the owner may even have a cupcake for you too.

I moved to Inwood, NYC at the end of October 2010. My first night moving in, I fell and annihilated my ACL and tore my meniscus. I had a VERY difficult time moving around immediately, and then after my surgery.
I found Furry Fiends, and met Amine, the owner. He is amazing — no — he is AWESOME. Not only is he an amazingly warm, and kind hearted person who loves people as much as he loves animals, he knows his stuff!
Any question you have about food, animals, and their behavior, Amine and his staff KNOW how to help you. Whether it’s with their food or you need advice, this is the place to go! They sell the best products for all animals. After the fire in December 2011, the community could not wait to have him open up again in the neighborhood, and the love and rally that the people who knew him (even those who did not have animals) was the most amazing show of love and support I’ve seen in a long time.
Just tonight — a cat who was injured across the street from my apartment, had Amine and his staff at the site, doing their best to take care of the poor kitty. I stayed with them for over an hour, watching the kitty while Amine and a wonderful person named Catherine came to the rescue. We tried to find a place to take him — it was after 10pm on a Saturday night. Yet Amine came there while his ²⁄₃ month old boy Isaac, and wife were at home. They took the kitty boy, who was either hit by a car or fell out of window, to the Manhattan Medical center on the UES. On the way there, he died in Amir’s arms (he is one of the staff). We all didn’t think twice about helping out and wanting to chip in money if the cat needed care. We knew that the community would chip in if needed.
The compassion that Amine shows to all animals, and the customers he has, is undeniable amazing.
Coming back to my injury — Amine would see me with groceries, and insist that I leave them there — and he’d have them delivered with my order. REALLY! I was thrown by his caring for the owners as well as the animals they own.
NO OTHER PLACE is like this. If you have a pet — you MUST go see him. FURRY FIENDS is beyond your wildest dreams when it comes to pet care.

Beyond incredible.

We are absolutely devastated by the loss of Furry Fiends due to the fire on 1÷3÷12. They have been by far the best pet store in the neighborhood. Accommodating, friendly, fantastic customer service.
We are overjoyed that the cats were rescued from the fire. Our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone at Furry Fiends. We already miss you!

I was thrilled to find that this store opened a new location on Broadway between 163^rd and 162^nd. It is a real time saver from the trek to pet smart or petco further downtown and it has a small but reliable collection of cat food. I love that they also have free delivery if you need it. The store also provides traction for the Joey Project which is a good option for spay and neuter in Washington Heights, a neighborhood with serious issues around animal abandonment. As a cat rescuer and friend of same, I gladly welcome any support for the cause.

I highly recommend this new neighborhood pet store. Like the previous reviewer, I have a very fussy cat and they made great (and less expensive) recommendations for dry and canned food that she loved. They’re very friendly and happy to order products they aren’t currently carrying if you ask. I have always found them to be very well stocked with every single flavor available in ample supply. The delivery service is very helpful (no more lugging 20 lb bags of litter home!) and they seem to truly love pets.

I’ve been buying food and supplies for my dog, from this store for a few months. For a small shop, they have a great selection. The prices are good (better than other nearby shops). The most endearing quality is the friendly staff. After only one visit, the fellow behind the counter remembered me, my fiancé, and every detail about our dog. I’ve talked to some of my dog owning neighbors, and they’ve all reported the same experience.
Furry Friends is the kind of business that makes you want to tell the world about them. I highly recommend purchasing pet supplies there.
