Jackie is great! She did my permanent eyebrows just last night and I am already getting compliments on them, even though they have yet to heal! She took the time to understand the shape I liked and didn’t rush at all. It was virtually painless and I am so glad I chose Jackie — it is a great investment. I was very nervous going in(considering this is my face!) but she made me feel very comfortable and is very good at what she does.

A scalpel scraping the skin off my face? Well, I’ve always been one for more intense treatments… very well, I’ll do it. After learning about dermaplaning via a Lifebooker Loot, I decided to give it a try with Jackie David, one of the few NYC estheticians who does the procedure. It’s a skin resurfacing process that removes the top dead layer of skin with a dulled surgical blade. Microdermabrasion provides exfoliation, too, and I’ll share the differences as Jackie explained them. Surprisingly, microdermabrasion is considered the more rough of the treatments as it’s more traumatic to the skin and is meant to stimulate cell turnover. Dermaplaning is more focused superficially, on the top layer alone, but because of the scalpel use and potential for nicks, is a bit higher-risk.(These are the most commonly-heard opinions online, though some places state dermaplaning as more aggressive of the two). I’m extremely happy with the results. Dermaplaning eliminates peachfuzz too(microdermabrasion does not), and it left my skin smoother and softer than any other facial treatment. Appearance-wise, I noticed a slight lessening of light wrinkles, though my pores do see better results from masks or yes, microdermabrasion. Still, dermaplaning is definitely worth a try, and people with already great skin will probably love the results. As for Jackie herself, she’s great. She works in a plastic surgeon’s office, so the experience is clean and clinical. She takes care to explain what she’s doing and is super friendly, making her a great esthetician to try dermaplaning with for the first time.
