M31 Bus

Nope nope nope nope nope… for a route that goes only from clinton to yorkville, I am very dissapointed. During the peak of rush hour, you can walk faster than this bus… the only reason I gave it a single star is because of the new bus tracker that allows you to time when the next bus arrives…

Recommendation that’s paid off — the Bus Time site /​app from the MTA is great. Get it, you’ll avoid waiting too long or missing a bus (due to not knowing where it is at least — no help if you’re delayed otherwise! :P).

I’ve been riding this bus for years. It has never been the best bus in town. But it used to beat taking the 6 Train and schlepping all the way over to York and beyond. Some times you have to wait 15 – 20 minutes. With traffic, you can’t blame a bus line for that. But today, in the height of rush our, I waited for the M31 in midtown for 30 minutes, while 3 – 4 of BOTH the M57 & Trolley based by (so this was not a traffic issue).
Heading back to midtown around 11:15am, I waited for 30 minutes again at 72^nd street. Again, at least three M72 buses passed by (so not a traffic issue). And it took so long to get back to midtown, I had to hop off early, and I beat the bus by walking.
Heightened fares and less service. That’s what we’re seeing across nearly all bus and train lines. Unacceptable, MTA.

I’ve only been on the M31 a few times, and only on 57^th Street. I need to get from Lex to West End, and usually only take the M31 if the M57 isn’t in sight.
The bus isn’t quick — it’s crossing Midtown — but it’s an alternative to walking, is cheaper than a cab, and is a more direct route crosstown than taking the train.

M31 Bus route operates Manhattan’s Clinton area of West 54^th Street and 11^th Avenue to Yorkville of East 92^nd Street and York Avenue. The driver is cordial and utilizes the old mechanics of the step on/​step off buses.
This route bears no overnight service in operation.
