The physical therapists and doctors seem to be very good (though compliant on the practice’s eagerness to suck your insurance dry) but the office management is a deal breaker. The staff talks, yells, laughs, hoots, gossips, makes plans for later on, makes personal phone calls, chit chats non-​stop and it makes for a really annoying/​stressful experience. Even a few of the PTs that were working on me kept stepping out and commenting on the conversation with the folks on the other side of the curtain. Especially annoying since the only thing separating your exam «room» and the staff is a shower curtain that doesn’t shut all the way. While changing in this little curtained off area you can see the legs of the person in the next «room» because the curtain is not wide enough. It’s just so ghetto. It’s a shame because the PT people are talented.
I also think it’s an «insurance scam» practice. As soon as they found out that they take my insurance they tried to get me to sign up for every evaluation, test, x-​ray, and service they provide. They don’t really even ask if you want it. They just say «now we’re going to test your flexibility» and suddenly they are using some machine on you… and you’re never really told the results. Low and behold each service was racked up on my health insurance EOB. My insurance paid but I’m not quite sure that any of it was necessary. I’m reporting them to my insurance company… and maybe the BBB.

Space: Rather blah doctor’s office feel.
Process: You meet with their doctor (?) which, for me, entailed a 5 minute conversation. She then directs you to physical therapy, medical massage, etc.
Service: I did medical massage. The guy seemed to know what he was doing and I felt better after. It is a very spartan environment — I’d never go here expecting anything resembling a spa, for sure.
Cost: This is what makes me feel odd. They take your insurance info and say they accept whatever your insurance pays out. In my case, for 5m w/​the doctor and 20 min massage, they billed my insurance $ 600! My insurance didn’t pay them that amount but it just feels kind of… wrong.

I have been going to this office for almost three years and have had various physical therapy and chiropractic treatments for about 10 years. I find this office to be stellar. If I wanted a salon, I’d go somewhere that does not take insurance and do medical practice. There are plenty of deals and groupons for those.
First of all in response to the other reviews on here…
If you are going here for medical treatment you should not read the living social and reviews from people who think they are coming for a spa massage. With a little research, they would realize this is a medical practice with yes, doctors office gowns, massage tables with paper on them and no spa music playing. It is more for therapy and treatment than «relaxation.» Of course you have to fill out insurance forms, the business has to protect themselves. And also these reviewers should realize if the massage is too painful for you all you have to do is speak up. So yes, the therapist should ask, and they usually do, but ultimately it’s your fault if you’re in intolerable pain and don’t say anything. Some tolerable pain however is going to be required to actually get out knots, trigger points and spasms, otherwise what’s the point?!
If you are in need of a chiropractor or physical therapy (that’s the reason you should go here), read on.
I believe that taking xrays before ever doing anything to a new patient is a great idea that MTH practices. No one should say they don’t «need» it. What if I had some serious problem in my spine and they adjusted it without knowing and did more damage? Very smart practice you should never discredit. MTH also offers ultrasounds and more which ended up diagnosing my carpel tunnel.
The receptionists Jessie and Olivia, although one of them will occasionally gossip in front of patients, are very friendly and flexible. I have often called and asked if I could come in 20 minutes and the answer is yes 95% of the time. They recognize my name when I call and my face when I come in. They greet me by name and they are great. And they interrupt any gossip they might be doing to do their job and help patients, so in my mind, that’s fine I guess.
Dr. Drago (Mondays and Thursdays) is a fantastic chiropractor. She greets you by name, is genuinely interested in how you are feeling and helps you figure out what activities might trigger certain pain. She is probably one of the most impressive and knowledgeable chiropractors I’ve gone to, she really helps me learn and understand what is actually going on in my body without too many big words I don’t understand. I had sinus surgery in June and occasionally still have pain. She was even able to adjust my sinuses with just light movement, and even showed me how to do it myself at home since I was able to feel the very slight movements going on! I don’t know many chiropractors who would do this for a patient. She has a great bedside manner and tells the physical therapist/​massage therapist if there is a specific exercise or part they should work on with me. I should also add that Melanie Wolcott, the chiropractor there before her, was equally amazing, this place knows how to hire good well rounded, knowledgable chiropractors.
The massage therapists are fantastic and give muscle stim with heat which is a healthy way to do it so you don’t bruise or become sore. I especially recommend Liz (she is genius with my carpel tunnel but often overbooked) or Omar. They test your flexibility on a regular basis to make sure you are improving and offer to see a doctor to discuss changes and possibility of other treatments like trigger point injections (personally not so much a fan) but they don’t push you into anything.
Unfortunately they only take out of network plans so I will lose them soon, as will anyone going on Obamacare, which offers no out of network plans. I hope someone will read this review and get as much out of this practice as I have. It’s going to be difficult to find a better office for my treatment.

I went here with a Living Social deal and my experience was incomparable. The front desk staff were personable (despite my tardiness) and the masseuse Julio was great. He introduced himself and gave me a breakdown of what the session would entail. During the massage, he checked-​in to make sure I was enjoying it and that he wasn’t too rough or too soft. In short, Julio has hands of magic and I’m looking forward to returning soon.

I had a great experience here. My husband bought an AmazonLocal deal for an evaluation and a one-​hour massage. This was my first professional massage, and it was GREAT! I left smiling and so relaxed. As someone else already pointed out, this is not a spa-​type environment. It’s a no-​nonsense, medical massage practice. But for what it is, it’s awesome. I plan on going back!

I’ve been here once to use a massage I bought on AmazonLocal. It was a great experience — the massage was truly deep tissue and really targeted sore muscles. I plan on returning for more treatments.
Don’t expect a spa type experience — this is a medical massage practice.

I had the most «interesting» massage of my entire life here at Manhattan Total Health through a deal on Living Social.
I say interesting because my lady massaged me with latex gloves on! Can you imagine? Tons of oil being massaged into my skin with latex gloves? Ewwwww it felt so slimy and sticky at the same time. It felt like I was being massaged by a condom! So weird.
For the massage itself, some parts were so painful I wanted to cry (and not in a good way).
She did work out a lot of kinks though, so I’ll give her that credit. Still, the wearing gloves part kind of rubbed me the wrong way… literally.

I have been a patient of MTH for almost a year. The West 57^th St office has an excellent staff. I have visited not only the chiropractor but also the massage therapists for persisent back problems. When I began going I could barely stand up straight. WIthin a week I began to see the difference. Each week my problems got better. I’m so appreciative.
The staff is very professional and care about your wellness. They will suggest various treatments that you can also do at home. I was so impressed that I recommend several of my colleagues and they are now patients as well.

DO NOT GO HERE!
I went here for a massage, purchased from Living Social, and it was hands down the worst massage I have ever had my entire life. For starters, I was not offered a robe or gown as a cover up. Instead, I was offered 2 very small hand towels and the massage therapist said, «we can make it work.» Immediately, I felt uncomfortable and thought about leaving.
Secondly, the room was in the middle of the office, right by the kitchen without any sound proofing. It was a very thin sliding glass door. You could hear EVERYTHING in the office. This is not a salon, but a doctors (physical therapy) office which is fine; however, I could hear very private conversations between the therapists and patients. Being beside the kitchen, the microwave was constantly going on and off. There was no music in the room, so I was forced to listen to the office music which was on the pop hits channel — can you relax with Justin Beiber playing in your ear? I heard the phone ring dozens of times and not to mention the very rude conversations between the staff. It was impossible to relax.
There was no blanket on the table — only the very thin paper found at every doctor and dentist office. Can you imagine having a massage only on a thin paper, covered by 2 hand towels? I nearly got up and left, but I did not want to be disrespectful to the massage therapist, who told me it was his first day and he did not expect these terrible conditions.
I also raised my concerns with the office manager, who told me she was sorry but offered no other resolution.
Their primary business is physical therapy, so I can not speak to that. However, what ever you do — never go here for a massage.
