I bought a refurbished vintage bike here, and I am absolutely in love with it. These guys do a great job customizing the perfect bike for you, at a great price. I have new hybrid tires and grips on mine, and they shined it up like new for me. Angel is super nice and was incredibly patient while I tried out a zillion bikes, and Solomon (sp?) worked really hard to make my bike pretty and safe. So excited, and cannot recommend this place highly enough. They really know bikes and can get you a great deal.

1hr to change a tire. Yup to Chang a tire 1hr. Only shop in town so they have you but stay away!!!

So I found this place here on Unilocal and took my hybrid bike to get a new tire tube in my rear tire.
The repair man looked at my bike, took it to the back and then 10 mins later came out and said «all fixed.» I asked him exactly what he did to the bike and he told me he put in a new tube.
About a week later my tire pressure was abnormally low for a new tube. I pumped it back with air and moments later it would deflate. So I figured it was a leak in the tube. I took it back to the bike shop first thing in the morning and the same repair man was at the door and told me they weren’t open yet. The sign clearly said 11am and it was 11:30. He tells me to come back in a half hour, closes the door and locks it behind him.
So I had to walk my bike to another bike shop. Come to find out my new tube was the incorrect size and type. It was meant for road bikes not hybrid tires. Because of its small diameter it could have exploded from the excess pressure. AND I realized that the bike shop overcharged me as well.
Long story short I just returned from going back to this bike shop to retrieve my money. I wouldn’t waste your money or time with this place. There are better places that offer far better service. Two stars instead of one, just for the refund.

I came in here looking for a new bike for the summer. I had a different idea of what I wanted and the guys steered me in another direction and I am so glad they did! These guys were nice, funny, and totally accommodating. They had my bike tailored and out the door within an hour.
I love my new bike and will continue to recommend this place to my friends.

I got my first bicycle of 2015 from these guys. I went Sunday by mistake but they were closed. So on Sunday I went to Target, Toys R Us, and another bicycle store; and I still didn’t get what I wanted. So I came here on Monday and walked out a happy customer. They have a really big selection of bicycles. They are not pushy at all and helped me set up my bike with a few extra things I wanted.
I highly recommend this place and I will be coming back here whenever I need to purchase another bicycle.

found them through craigslist. the bike i inquired about was not available. i texted and called and the didn’t seem interested in telling me what comparable bikes they had. i don’t want to go to your store if u don’t want to give me 2 minutes on the phone. i am sure i can find a good deal with someone that wants my business. thanks

I live in Washington Heights very close to Victor’s Bike Repair, but it’s worth the ride to go here instead. I’m obviously biased by the fact that I don’t communicate well in Spanish, which is the only language spoken at Victor’s.
I first stopped by Pedal Universe a couple years ago because my tire was low on air and I was in the area, and they graciously let me use their air pump free of charge (unlike most places). I took my bike to Victor’s a couple months ago for a flat tire — they changed the tube for $ 13 and it was flat again the next day. I took it back and they wanted to do the exact same thing. So I took it to Pedal Universe where they checked the tube, tire, and wheel, ended up giving me a new tube AND lubing my chains all for $ 12. If my tire still became flat the next day, they offered to give me a new tube free of charge and change my tire.
Reasons why Pedal Universe is awesome:
1. The people are genuinely kind, honest, and fair.
2. Their policies are great — during the first 7 days after a bike purchase (excluding delivery bikes), they change tubes for free and offer a free exchange.
3. Their bikes are well-​priced and they have a large selection (they currently claim to have 500 bikes in their basement).

Pedal Universe isn’t quite «your friendly local bike shop,» but it doesn’t have much competition and it’s cheap. Conversation is minimal, the place alternately smells like paint or cigarette smoke, and I was told that I had to wait there while my bike was fixed, rather than being able to leave it there and return the next day to pick it up. Why? I don’t know. The guy gestured to the front and said «busy.» That said, he seemed to know what he was doing, and i only paid $ 10 for him to replace my bike’s seat post and oil the chains.

This is my second time at Pedal Universe and I love this place. Really great service, nice folks, chill atmosphere, and awesome décor. I love the use of old chains and bike parts to decorate to place. Love that this spot is in my neighborhood. I will be back no doubt. Came in today to replace my tire and tube. Service was quick and affordable. $ 32 for tire, tube, and labor. Like the vibe so much that I even bought a bike basket. I’d been thinking of getting one, didn’t necessarily need it, but the shop is so awesome I wanted to give them more of my business. Yay for Pedal Universe! Thanks for being in my universe.

I would have to agree with other posts, Mikhail the owner, is this really friendly russian guy who loves working on bikes and with his hands in general. You should check out this place if you do not want to spend or afraid to invest too much on a new bike thinking it will get stolen. Mikhail does a great job of fixing up old bikes and the price is really fair for the product you get. He will attend your every need in a bike. They opened a new place in LES, Ave C x 12^th St. Definitely check it out.

Bought a bike here (at the Ave C shop) a couple weeks back. The price was very reasonable for a used bike. What I’ve been most impressed with is the warranty. They have made adjustments and even fixed my flat for free. The staff have been very friendly and helpful!

Total rip-​off. Over-​priced, crappy bikes, and a rude staff. Avoid this place at all costs.

I first went up to Pedal Universe last July when I saw a bike they posted on craigslist. When I got there, the bike had already sold, but they offered to custom build a second hand bike in the same style. The bike I got was a 54 cm Raleigh and was an incredible bargain. Mikhail was friendly, informative, and honest.
Now almost a year later I’m moving to California and he offered me a great buy back price. I dropped by the new store at 89 Ave C which looks just like the store in Harlem. I definitely recommend Pedal Universe for both buying and selling bikes.

I was nervous about buying a bike in NYC because I didn’t want to get ripped out and after experiences in other big cities, was having bike shop trust issues.
I found them at the Bike Flea Market in Park Slope some weeks back, where I spotted the most beautiful bike ever, an old Peugeot. Not only were these guys completely honest and helpful in understanding if it was the right fit, they then took it back to their shop to do some adjustments I asked for, and included it all in the price — which, BTW, was an amazing price and others at the Flea Market even said in front of them that it was an incredible deal, and they _​still_​included all those adjustments for free.
They called me exactly as they said they would, to their word, no deposit required, I went and got it and they fitted it exactly to me and promised me a 7 day return with any issues.
If you want an amazing deal and excellent, attentive, old fashioned honest service, get a bike from Pedal Universe!

After watching way too many episodes of Pawnstars I decided it was time for me to fix up an old junker – something vintage and easy to restore, ’cause that’s what guys do when they’re bored – they do things they see on TV without really giving it much thought. And that is when I stumbled on this little gem a few weeks ago while foraging for food on my lunch break. The shady atmosphere and the duct tape on the window was what first drew me in; the friendly people and good prices were what really kept me.
I walked in and fell in love with this classy-​looking Raleigh bike; the price was decent enough so I bought it that same day. I rode it all the way to the Bronx and ended up with a flat. No biggie! The tires were ancient anyways (it was like peeling a mummy when I ripped the tubes off). So I bought new tires and decided to change them myself. I took the bike apart and tried to put it back together. Tried. I couldn’t put all the pieces back again – to say the least.
By the time I decided that I was completely incapable of fixing bikes the seven day trial period had already passed. I took it back to the shop and explained as well as I could and when the owner found out that i had to replace the tires he tried to compensate me for my expenses (literally pulled money out of the register and tried to hand it to me). I declined, of course, since I had to save face and preserve my honor. Anyways, he fixed the bike up for free since it apparently has a 30day warranty (no one told me that).
They really take care of their customers and rest assured I’ll be recommending them to everybody.

If you need a bike, this is the place!!!
cheap bikes, they let you try before buying, fix the bike before buying it. If it ‘s not OK, they tell you and work on it.
30 daty guarantee for 2^nd han bikes. They sell the big namoes, not Kmart type, and all styles.
Tip: they have a lot of bikes, so don’t stick to they few you see at the entrance, there’s more downstairs.

I’ve only had my bike for a day, and I may not want to keep it. But that’s apparently ok, since I can take it back in a week and get my cash back without a hassle. Or, if I want to upgrade, they apparently are happy to buy a lot of bikes back when the time comes. This place is friendly, the owner is knowledgable, and I spent very little compared to what I expected. Fully recommend.

Got my bike stolen a week ago — and have been looking daily on craigslist only to find horrible beater bikes that cost an arm and a leg.
The owner is this really nice bloke — Mikhail — who has done a really great job with this place. He’ll give it to you straight — and if he doesn’t have something which is the correct size — won’t just try to sell you anything that’s sitting around. You can test drive the bikes if you leave your ID!
I actually picked up two bikes from him (one for a friend).
Both commuter bikes– with some parts that were brand new.
One was a fixie for $ 125 and the other had some gears and was $ 185.
Place is cash only, so bring some $.
OH AND they have a return policy, so if you don’t like it — you can take it back.

The best experience for which you could ever hope. The first time I went into the shop I spoke with the owner’s father. He was so friendly and immediately called the owner (who is a professor at Columbia) to ask him the specific questions I had.
I basically was able to custom build my own bike and pick it up 2 days later. The price was far below anything on Craigslist and the service, knowledge and return policy make this place worth the 40 minute subway ride from Soho.
I absolutely loved my bike when I picked it up 2 days later. I tried it out for a week and found out that I had misjudged the type of bike I wanted. Instead of a cruiser style I needed a faster bike for my commute. I brought my bike back to the shop and returned it within minutes, no questions asked and no pressure to buy a different bike.
