PhotoOp

I held off doing my review of PhotoOp because I wanted to get the finished product before I reviewed their service.
One afternoon, a few weeks before Easter, PhotoOp had a sandwich board outside advertising a discounted photoshoot with baby chicks. I went in and booked the shoot for the next day.
That morning, my youngest daughter was in a «mood» and told me that she didn’t want her picture taken. After a begging, bartering and arguing, she agreed to do to the photo studio.
When we arrived my older daughter fell into poses easily, my younger daughter was back in her «mood» and refused to have her picture taken. Here is where the expertise of PhotoOp came in. The photographer and his assistant got my daughter to smile, take pictures and actively participate in the photoshoot. And not only did she pose and smile, she had a GREAT time!
The pictures came out beautiful! My only gripe was that I didn’t have enough room in my apartment for all the pictures I wanted to buy. The assistant photographer offered me the option of having a plexiglass collage of the all my favorite pictures made — SOLD!
A week later, we pictured up the collage and it is BEAUTIFUL! I will definitely be back next year.
PhotoOp is professional, the pictures come out beautiful and the staff is friendly. Most importantly they work extremely well with moody children!!!

I have had my son photographed multiple times over the past few years at PhotoOp. Most recently, we had pictures taken for Easter. Their photos are really amazing because they are good at working with kids and coaxing out «real» smiles and laughs. I’d also like to agree with the comment that the pictures aren’t overly posed — which is shockingly common problem with a lot of professional pictures of children.
In addition to taking awesome pictures, they whole studio is well run. The pictures are uploaded to an easy to use website, so you can really take your time looking through your pictures and selecting the images you want to purchase. You can share the link with grandparents … which is really convenient.
Lastly, they do a great job touching up the pictures and printing them. The end result is simply delightful.

I recently had the most wonderful experience at PhotoOp! I worked with Nathan from the beginning who was very patient, helpful and had great ideas! Rob was our photographer and he was phenomenal with the kids! It was more like a play date than a photo shoot and every single picture was terrific! The smiles he captured were priceless. We will definitely use PhotoOp again for our photography needs in NYC or even the Hamptons! Amazing work!

I received a follow-​up from Nathan of PhotoOp which I greatly appreciated in response to my review. Not only was I able to obtain the comp 8 X 10 print from my daughter’s studio session but PhotoOp gave me a generous offer of additional prints. It was absolutely beautiful and heart-​warming to see our lil’ one all grown up! Our photos was shipped priority and arrived carefully wrapped in a white gift box. I can’t wait to frame the prints both at home and work!
Nathan reached out to me via email and explained their studio’s policy on viewing of a client’s gallery and pricing. There are specific guidelines that are set in his studio which he will arrange to discuss over the phone. It really says a lot about their integrity and character. The fact that they are able to take responsibility and fess up for their errors shows honesty. And, I really value a business that is genuine. It makes me trust that the business is indeed reputable and cares about their customers.
My prior review was based on a misunderstanding out of frustration thinking that I would never get the prints of my daughter. However, now that I see the final product of these photos, it’s pure joy and love! I would definitely recommend PhotoOp to friends and families as the photos speak for themselves. Thanks so much to Nathan and Rob for creating wonderful memories of my daughter. We will truly treasure these photos!

I have worked with Photo Op on a personal and professional level for the past few years and always had the most wonderful experiences. In my opinion their strongest asset is their ability to capture kids’ essence in their images – no forced smiles or overly posed shots (they’ll take that if you want, but why would you?!), rather the photographers get down to the kids’ level and meet them on their own terms, then proceed to capture their true spirit. Pictures can be taken either in studio or on location (West Side studio is right near Central Park, or the small park near the Museum of Natural History is also a great venue for outdoor shots with natural light!). The photographers are all engaging and warm and excellent at their craft. And the products on offer are current and unique – you can get beautiful proof boxes, an array of modern frame options, photos on lucite or metal or canvas, etc. We’ve had Christmas cards printed there, and the quality is outstanding.
After a session and reviewing your pictures online, your fee also covers a one-​on-​one consultation with a photographer to look at the pictures, discuss retouching and cropping, etc.
I highly recommend Photo Op to families with kids of any age (they do beautiful newborn and pregnant mom shots too). I believe that moms especially aren’t in as many family snapshots as they should be – they’re usually behind the camera; so our annual shoot at Photo Op is my opportunity to get in the picture… and ensure that those pictures are worth saving and showing off!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about photoopnyc. I have used them for holiday photos and cards, albums, picture collages and design. The photographer we use is amazing and talented! The owner is very accommodating and is a family man, so he understands how important the pictures are to you!
I would highly recommend them to anyone who is searching for outstanding professional pictures and service!!!

I feel it is necessary to include an update to my previous review of PhotoOp. With regards to my previous complaint about the lack of follow-​up from someone at the studio, I was contacted by the owner a couple of days later. He was incredibly sincere, professional and apologetic about the situation. He offered to rectify it as best he could, offering me what was more than generous and necessary. PhotoOp has been wonderful to work with overall (with the exception of the prior incident). I must commend the studio on their professionalism and great photography.

These guys use flash way too much. In fact, they used flash exclusively for our session, which I think is an abomination for the youngest of children.

I just used PhotoOp for the second time, this time more of a challenge– 4 girls from 3 – 7, all cousins. The photographer Rob was so great with all of them and the proof is in the pudding– I just got our proofs and there are so many good shots, it will be hard to narrow it down. A great experience and I look forward to returning for another happy occasion. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Great job PhotoOp, you will make one Bubbie very happy.

We had a fabulous experience at Photoop! They did a wonderful job «getting the shot,» in spite of our 2 year old really having a hard time keeping still! We have wonderful photos as a result of the four of us and have really unbelievable shots of our nine month old. They are great to work with and I highly recommend them!

In theory It’s easy to make cute kids look cute on camera. The reality of getting them to hold still and pose in a photo studio is much harder. It is a credit to the folks at PhotoOp that they were able to wrangle our occasionally recalcitrant 2.5 year-​old and her newly mobile 1 year-​old younger brother, simultaneously, into a wealth of fantastic shots. We were hoping for one or two good shots, and were pleasantly shocked with the plethora or truly great pictures they were able to capture. They are not the cheapest option, but you’ll be happy to spend the money on wonderful images that really capture the unique essence of your kids. Minus the screaming and demands for ice cream.
To their further credit, they also have the ability to make adults look charming, polished, happy, and youthful.

I had my photo taken twice at this studio and loved it! Great staff and atmosphere. My friends and I had so much fun with the props and music. A great place to get your portrait taken!

My kids had so much fun dressing up and vogueing at PhotoOp. The staff was sweet and playful. We have great shots, which we got framed and look amazing. We couldn’t be more thrilled and the grandparents are over the moon.
Great value. Great product. We’ll be back again very soon.
