Over the last 3 or more years I’ve been coming to Puro from Chicago… because they carry a decent variety of Chilean Pisco that you can’t find out my way. I’m not sure if they ever picked up on me showing up with my suitcase every few months always trying to get my hands on Waqar, but it looks as if those days are over. I was out in NY less than two weeks ago and according to them, they’re giving up their Soho location and moving out to Brooklyn, where I’m sure they’ll still get decent business, but they’ll also be out of reach for someone coming into Manhattan for only a few hours at a time every few months. I’m also a bit too poor to pay for shipping, so I’m thinking my Pisco days are over. I can recall only one time in all the time I’ve been visiting that they didn’t have what I wanted — and that was because they had hosted a tasting event the night before. All in all, Puro Wine — thanks for the Pisco, thanks for supplying our parties with Pisco sours!

Knowledgable staff and good wine selection Giving the low rating because I bought the groupon for wine tasting and they only offered me two dates, then told me to contact groupon for a refund. Not very helpful.

Been waiting a while to finally pop my Unilocal review cherry, and the terrible experience i had this afternoon at Puro finally provided the incentive to do so. As folks in the nabe we come in fairly often. In the past we have always enjoyed the selection and the staff have been nice and helpful. After trudging through hurricane arthur to get some wine to accompany the impending pizza and netflix, we purchased a bottle of a lower-market carmenere. I have been a huge fan of the carmenere we have purchased here in the past and was looking forward to trying a new bottle. However once we got home, we discovered the bottle was corked. Not just-a-bit-could-still-drink-it corked, but a rancid smelling vinegar tasting corked. Not a big deal, it happens, there was no way they could have known and I assumed that they would be jovial and easy-going about swapping it out for something a bit less pissy. Boy was I wrong. From the second we told the employee what the problem was his body language immediately became snotty and hostile. After trying a bit himself in a grandiose show of wine-learnedness, he pronounced it fine. I told him to smell it and after stubborn persuasion he finally agreed we could have a new bottle. As tonight was a warm breezy night so unlike hurricane arthur, i thought it would be reasonable to pick out a white wine of a similar or lower price. But no sir, had to be an exchange of the same bottle. SERIOUSLYMAN?! You think I’m trying to game you over a 15 dollar bottle of wine? After grudgingly picking out the same bottle of wine(at this point i was done with dealing with his shit), we were literally shoed out the store by this same employee. You guys are operating a niche business in a neighborhood saturated with liquor stores of all types, in what I am sure is an expensive corner slice of real estate, how can you afford to be alienating good customers over what is a common occurrence in the wine business?

I bought a Groupon for a wine tasting class at this place. My friends and I enjoyed ourselves very much. There were six wines to taste, plus appetizers like mini cheese empanadas, ceviche, fruit, nuts, cheese, chocolate, etc. I discovered 2 Chilean wines I liked very much.

I walked by here and went in, as I saw they only sell Chilean wines. The person inside was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about the region and the grapes since I do not know a lot about Chile and it’s wines. I like that they stock smaller vineyards and loved the edit of the varieties there. I’ll definitely be back to try some other ones once I’m done with the Los Vascos Rose and Casa Silva Camanere I bought. They have a range of price points, so there’s something for everyone.

I recently spent 3 weeks in Chile and had lots of amazing Chilean wine there. I really wanted to stay and live in Chilean wine oblivion forever, but reality soon sank in and I had to get myself on that flight back to NYC. Bummer! To prevent Chilean wine withdraw, I have visited the Puro wine shop a few times. They carry only Chilean wines and I was able to find many of the same ones I had enjoyed during my trip to Chile. My favorite is the carmenere which is the grape Chile is known for. The store offers wine tastings as well during certain evenings and generally there is a small discount on the feature wines if you buy it that day. Overall, I am a big fan of the shop and it’s delicious grape juices!
