The worst checkout service ever. Every time I go in there(which I try to make as infrequently as possible), there is always a queue of people waiting to be rung up. The problem is usually due to the slowness of the customers(unloading the merchandises from the basket onto the counter) and the inefficiencies in which the cashiers ring up and bag the goods(bag as you’ve scanned people! Save yourselves the extra step!) And despite having all these customers waiting, I’ve never seen more than two cashiers up front. I put up with the place b/c their prices are usually cheaper than their competitors, especially toiletries when they are advertised during the weekly sale. I really wish they would install self-service check out registers– that alone would make this place more bearable.

Pharmacy has good hrs… but they had to be prodded to give instructions on how to take prescription & with what foods… then it turned out they were wrong about the food interaction! I prefer to use my local neighborhood pharmacy… but this chain has good hrs in an emergency.

Ah, Rite Aid… how I love to hate to love you. Your prices are so low. Almost as low as your standards for service and cleanliness. You aisles seem to always be blocked by employees stocking shelves. Hey, here’s an idea: stock the shelves at midnight. There are always too few cashiers — and they’re all stunningly slow. You can expect to have a birthday by the time you actually pay. Oh… As for prescriptions… there’s a tiny«waiting area»(the size of a broom closet) which absolutely ensures that everyone nearby will get to hear about your genital herpes.

Tiny aisles. Slow check out. I did find paper bags here, though, which I could not find at CVS or Duane Reade.

The pharmacists there are fantastic. Their conscientiousness and caring service is a throw back to days when you had a neighborhood pharmacy who knew your family and looked out after you like a friend. The Rite-Aid on 96th and Broadway lost their lease and closed to pharmacy. We were bereft when our Rx’s were arbitrarily moved to a Walgreen’s closer to our house. We didn’t want to lose our relationship with Henry and Viris, two of the pharmacists who have taken care of our family for years. We found that they had been transferred to this location at 9th and Columbus, and we had our ‘scripts moved, even though it is not as convenient. It is worth it. In a day and age when service is so impersonal, this connection matters to us. If this move is affecting you, do it; move your ‘scripts to 97th! If you haven’t used this Rite-Aid before, you won’t be disappointed. Stop in and say Hi to Henry and Viris for us!
