I came here to have a bad haircut fixed and Yuya was the perfect stylist. He listened to what I wanted and had great suggestions. Overall, he did a great job. My hair looks amazing now! I’ll definitely be coming back.

Saturday at noon I made two appointments for short hair, I was accommodated quickly with hair dresser Yuya. One of my close Japanese friends who is also head dresser told me to go to him. So I did!
Yuya listened to what I wanted, gave me recommendations, was fun and didn’t take too long to finish.
I seriously recommend him and both my girlfriend and I left there feeling fresh like margaritas.

This salon just became my favorite in New York City. Yuya is unbelievable! He gave me a perfect blow dry and was so fast – everyone is also wonderful that works there. Highly recommend!

I got my hair colored by Julie and she did an amazing job. Actually, amazing doesn’t even do justice. I wanted a blonde ombré but since I have thick black asian hair, I was very nervous about how blonde I can go with one session. But Julie made it all happen! Color lifted beautifully and she took her time to pick a perfect toner to complete my look after the color. I am so happy and excited about my new hair! Absolutely LOVE it!
I also got my haircut by Bushi, and he nailed it! I had long hair with not much layers or movements. He created a beautiful V line shape in the back, without taking too much length. I also asked him to make me a «whispy bangs» and I could not be happier with the result.
My experience at Salon musa was incredible. I highly recommend this beautiful salon. They will definitely take their time to achieve the look or style you want and make sure you feel comfortable through every step.

I am a picky client. Bushi and Julie did amazing job together of cutting my hair and correcting my hair color. Bushi has excellent skill and great personality. He cut my hair exactly what I want. Julie toned down mine old gold tone highlight color and turned it to be nice dark blond color, which made my hair 10 times nicer and elegant than it was. She is a sweet heart too. I felt very comfortable doing my hair in Musa. I am highly recommended this place.

I am very careful with who I trust to cut my hair and always hesitant that the stylist will cut too much. Julie was attentive, understanding, and a true talent!!! She mastered the perfect amount of cut: saving length while simultaneously getting rid of dead ends. AMAZING cut!!! Amazing lady. Fun experience. Going back to try color! I went back to Julie for a cut and highlight and her application technique was something I’ve never seen! In lieu of balayage, which will inevitably pass over already colored locks, Julie teased my roots and gave me impeccably placed foils to lift my root color whilst preserving my undone «rooty look.» She matched my neutral color to a T! I’m still trying to rehabilitate my blonde hair from a horrible over-​process at another salon and Julie has proven time and time again to surpass my expectations. A++!

I recently went to Julie for color — and she ROCKED it!
I had a stylist elsewhere add bronze/​golden tones to my hair which I hated… They were obviously a mistake and I needed it fixed asap. Julie listened carefully, made sure to talk me through the process and really understood exactly what I needed. Coming from an experience where I already felt afraid of someone making my hair orange, I really appreciated Julie’s extra care to make me feel comfortable. I highly recommend her work — and am going back for a haircut with her asap!

I went to salon Musa for a dry cut with Julie. My hair looks amazing! So happy, I actually found the salon on Unilocal because i live in the neighborhood. It’s hard finding the perfect haircut so I could not be more pleased. I’ve actually already recommended her to 3 friends. 5 stars for sure

Been going here every 6 weeks or so for two years now and it has been excellent every time. Small salon with just 4 or 5 chairs. Great team and relaxed environment with attentive staff. I (almost) always see Kai (when she’s available!). Definitely worth the trip over even after I moved out of the neighborhood.

I just got a haircut from Bushi and am incredibly happy with how it came out. Every time I go to Salon Musa, the whole experience is excellent from the friendly staff to the haircuts themselves. It’s a true neighborhood shop and a real gem in SoHo!
Each time Bushi cuts my hair, he always puts the utmost care into styling it «just so» and making sure that the look fits me. He has great taste and a feel for current looks, not to mention he is very skilled. There is a lot of joy and art in a haircut from Bushi. If you book an appointment with any of the stylists at Salon Musa, you won’t be disappointed!

Yuya did my hair. He is extremely talented. On top of that, he listens to you carefully and make sure to bring out the best of your beauty. I will definitely come back to Musa in the future. :)

I just had my amazing haircut by the owner Bushi. What can I say? The results came beautiful! I wanted to keep my hair length with a more layers for my haircut and Bushi made the job outstanding! I feel like I am bloated. The shampoo was also like in heaven. He did a massage to me on my head and I felt so much relaxed. Great job Musa! I will definitely come back!

Salon Musa is located on the corner of Sullivan Street in SoHo; this little cute salon is tiny, but it has so much to offer. The outside of the salon looks cute already with the beautiful calligraphy sign and the scissors hanging. The interior is also very charming and feels calm. It has the rusty characteristic decorated with the brick wall, vintage parlor chairs, and old typewriters.
I have been going to Salon Musa for a couple years now. My hair stylist is Taka — he does a great job every time, and the last session was no exception. I got my highlights touch-​up and trimmed my ends. I have super long thick hair, but it’s always manageable after getting my hair done at Salon Musa. The highlight color is perfectly matched to my original color, and he makes sure if I like the style in the process. He’s very knowledgeable, politely answers many of my questions about hair care. I also get a deep treatment once a month, and this is amazing! He spends time treating my hair and care for it as it’s his own. My damaged hair magically turns smooth and shiny after the deep treatment, and I get out of the door smiling and jumping!
I constantly get compliments on my hair, and many people have asked where I get my hair done. I proudly tell them «at Salon Musa.» Seriously, if you’re hunting for a reliable hair salon, give it a try at Salon Musa. I guarantee you won’t regret and most likely will be a repeater. It’s the best when you have the people who know your hair, and you can trust them to it. Finding a right hair stylist is tough, but the fight will be over after coming to this salon. All of the staff are very friendly, polite, and professional. It’s important that I like the people because who would want to spend a couple hours every few months with the people you don’t like? I feel comfortable, and it’s my luxurious time to treat myself. I’m scared to go to a new salon now because they have to learn my hair and style from scratch. Salon Musa is my lifesaver, and that’s where my hair belongs as long as I’m in nyc.

I swear to gods, I got the best haircut of my life today with Bushi, the owner of Salon Musa. To give you some context, I’m Korean with thick and relatively course hair that boasts random waves. I’m also a Gemini, which maybe means that I’m easily bored by my hair, and pretty noncommittal when it comes to a hair dresser/​stylist. Over the past 6 years I’ve bounced around from salon to salon, testing the overly saturated waters of quality NYC hair places. I, like many others, have found that Japanese salons understand my hair the best, so I’ve been to several on differing ends of the $ spectrum. I give you all this context to say: I’ve found the one– the stylist and salon to whom I will commit my heart and my locks.
This was my first time at Salon Musa. I had read in other reviews that everyone there, especially the owner, was a consummate professional, very kind, and intensely attentive to what people want (and what would work for each customer’s hair type, quality, their face shape, etc.). I arrived a few minutes late (those blasted trains!) only to be greeted with a choice of tea, and the best hair washing session of all time. Seriously. I commented to Bushi that I wanted him to train my husband how to do that. Awkward? Nah. Anyways, I showed him my hair (it was quite long) and brought up a photo of a woman with an angled bob where the hair is longer in the front. His eyes brightened and he got excited about the cut, confirming it would work well. Bushi was super kind, keeping me informed about everything he was about to do, even asking if I was ready for the first big chop. He was meticulous, but fast. Some of the other stylists I’ve been to were really precise, but also rather slow. Bushi was a perfect combo!
The price was not particularly cheap, but given the quality of the cut, the dramatic change in hair style, and the impressive service, I would say my cut was worth every damn penny.
Can I tell you something? I’m both a confident and self-​deprecating person. But after this terrific haircut, I am feeling… pretty cute. My hair was bouncing, and so was I.
Needless to say, I’m committing myself to Salon Musa and Bushi. Zodiacs be damned.

I love Salon Musa.
I followed Bushi from Oscar Bond/​Sam Brocato to Salon Musa — he’s been cutting my hair for 12 years now, and I’ve never once seen another stylist in that time.
Now Kai colors my hair and she’s great too.
Aside from being really skilled hair care professionals, Salon Musa has a beautiful design and the service is wonderful.

I waited about a month to review this salon. It’s always good to wait to see how your hair grows and also pick up on any flaws after awhile.
Well, I was running about 5 minutes late to this salon. I came in sweaty and panting. As soon as Bushi saw me, he turned his blow dryer to cool and started spraying me with cool air to dry me off, lol.
Yasuko came in, saw my hair, and gave me a glass of cold water to cool down. I originally wanted something different but she advised since it was summer, I shouldn’t go all out for a change since my hair gets very unruly during the summer.
As she was cutting, she noticed that my former hairstylist made a lot of mistakes on my layers. And after maybe five minutes of cutting my hair, she noticed my hair was really wavy so she said let’s play with it.
Well, I really haven’t had a chance to enjoy my cut because I usually tie it up at the first sign of sweat. But lately, I just wanted to let it air dry and see what happens. Well, she cut it so precisely, that even though my hair is air dried, all the waves forms nicely on my head to give it a nice messy look. I LOVE IT! All the waves curls just nicely so that it looks natural. Also, my hair got really curly after her cut. I think she made precision cuts so my curls would be enhanced.
Anyway, I can’t recommend this place enough. Their service is excellent as well as their skill. A must go for hair cuts. Plus, the neighborhood is really nice. Enjoy.
