I was an acupuncture skeptic after having a very unpleasant experience several years ago. However, someone recommended I meet with Marisa A. to help with some recent sleep problems. I am so grateful for that recommendation. Marisa is knowledgeable about more than just acupuncture and I felt like she was treating me as a whole person rather than treating a symptom. She also took time to ask questions about my health and my concerns and she was so sensitive and understanding when I explained my worries and my distaste for needles. For my first treatment she was very gentle and explained everything she was doing and why. She seemed to really take her time choosing the right points for me… and she does this EVERY time I go in. I’ve been seeing her now for a few months and feeling better. I look forward to my appointments with her. She is so positive and so thoughtful, giving me advice on nutrition and sleep hygiene as well as connecting me with additional resources. Marisa is such a generous soul. I never thought I’d enjoy being stuck with needles, but I just feel so good when I leave her office(which has a very serene and almost spa-like atmosphere.) While pricey, it’s so worth it for me. Needless to say, I have recommended her to friends.

I began to suffer from extremely severe chronic fatigue when I was 22 and worked tirelessly with my parents, both doctors, to try and find a reason behind my symptoms. Over three years I saw internal medicine specialists, neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, allergists and regularly saw a general practitioner for bi-monthly blood work and check ups to try and find a solution to this debilitation problem. I tried dietary changes(gluten-free, non-dairy, high protein), I tried caffeine, thyroid hormone supplements, daily vitamins, vitamin shots, b12 supplements, iron supplements, even resorting to stimulants like adderal when my neurologist suggested it might be the dramatic step necessary. Nothing worked. Upon moving to New York I saw a plethora of doctors but it was only 6 months ago that I was referred to Dr. Marisa Anaya for acupuncture. I’d never had acupuncture before but I was ready to try anything and after 1 visit I was a convert. Nothing dramatic happened the first visit but after years of «I don’t know what it could be» or inconclusive tests Dr. Anaya’s thoughtful and attentive listening to my symptoms as well as a suggestion that it was not a problem so much as a resetting of my internal systems that was necessary I was converted. The procedure itself felt so interesting and I could really feel sensitivity in certain points versus others. Dr. Anaya also suggested I see her colleague Daniela Turley for an assessment by her to prescribe an herbal tonic that would help to detox my body and support the acupuncture treatments. I decided I would commit and try 12 weeks of acupuncture as well as the singular meeting with Daniela Turley, to give this course of treatment a real chance to have an effect. After only 8 weeks I feel so affected by the treatment it is truly astounding. After years of constantly falling asleep and feeling drained I wake up naturally by 8 or 9 every morning, regardless of the time I go to sleep or not. I have the energy to last me through the day, exercise vigorously, and take part in multiple daily activities rather than having to bow out due to overwhelming sleepiness. I should be clear that this course of treatment is not like a pill, I never woke up and felt instantly a huge change, it has been the gradual increase in my energy and ability that has proven to me that this treatment is truly making a difference in my life. I strongly encourage anyone who has ever considered homeopathic or alternative medicine to try this remarkable treatment, Dr. Marisa Anaya is everything one could want in a physician: engaged, knowledgeable, and deeply invested in helping her patients lead healthier lives. Daniela Turley is similarly dynamic, very attentive to her patients history of care and major complaints. A gem within the New York area that I frequently rave about!

I bought a Guilt City 2 session voucher to go to Shellie based on the positive reviews here on Unilocal. However, I did not get to have Shellie, I had Joey instead. Today’s acupuncture session was the worst acupuncture experience I have ever had. First of all, Joey decided to do a «scrape» thing on my back without telling me, without talking to me about the benefits or letting me know what would happen from it, or even giving me any bit of a choice in the matter. I LITERALLYALMOSTFLEWOFFTHETABLEAND UnilocalEDWITHPAIN. Now I have HUGE welts that look like insane bruises all over my back which she informs me tonight when she calls to check to see if I’m ok because she accidentally hit a nerve and I had intense pain after the scraping(more on that in a second) and she told me that these MARKSCOULDLASTUPTO2WEEKS! You think she’s explain this to me beforehand, right? I’m really upset about this. My back looks like it was ASSAULTED and I was suppose to wear backless dress this weekend. Next, she hit a spot on my back that literally hurt the ENTIRE day. I’ve had a lot of acupuncture and this has never happened to me before. When I asked her what happened, she only replied with«I don’t know». It wasn’t until I talked to Shelly in the reception area did I get any advice on to arnica the spot that was still hurting after Joey needled it. ALLOFTHISAND I DON’T FEELEVEN A TINYBITBETTER. Shellie offered me a free session to make up for everything today and kept insisting that Joey is a GREAT acupuncturist. I said NOTHANKYOU!!!
