Today I cashed in my Living Social Gift of Song coupon at JamBox and it was a great experience. I’m sorry to hear that the other reviewer had a bad time. I have a feeling that was because the coupon was expiring on May 2 and they had a crazy rush of people in there the week leading up to it. Fortunately, when I called to book, they said that I just needed to make the actual appt by May 2 so I avoided the crush of Living Socialites. I booked my appt for a random weekday(today) and I had the engineer’s(Dana) undivided attention during my session. First off, I’ve never been in a recording studio before so the whole thing was a real trip for me. Dana was friendly and fun to work with. She let me do 3 takes of the first song to get levels and work out some kinks. Even I was sick of the song after so many takes but she just got down to business. She mixed the songs right there and didn’t rush. My only critique echoes the previous reviewer who was annoyed that they didn’t have my songs ready despite having emailed them the day before. They made up for the time lost on the hunt, so I didn’t feel shortchanged. But, they couldn’t locate one of the songs that was on their list of available tracks which was a disappointment. I know that a karaōke track exists for it, so it would have been easy to find/buy if there was more time. Aside from this, no complaints. My recommendation for Gift of Song singers is to pick songs you know very well. And if you think you need lyrics, save the hassle and print them out yourself before you get there. Bring a bottle of water into the studio and don’t wear a warm sweater. It was toasty in there! Have fun!
