A reasonably-priced and well-equipped rehearsal space in the Madison Square Garden area. I think the techs do a good job of helping out when you need it. For those who don’t frequent these types of businesses, they have most of the ‘heavy’ gear in the rooms(amps, keyboards, pa, drums, etc) so musicians can just show up with the basics. Rooms are sound-proofed with no windows so it’s not the freshest air around.

The guy there ripped us off! We had reserved with the rate for free 3rd hour and our deposit amount proved it. But, the owner didn’t care, said his employee was at fault but made us pay anyway! Never again. We rehearsed there dozens of times over the years. Made no difference. We were even let into the studio 15 min late.

I usually only go to Ultrasound if the Studio(a few floors below) is all booked. Ultrasound has super cheap late night rates and friendly staff, which is great. I’m a drummer, and their kits are decent, but not the best. I’ll always bring my own cymbals and it’s not a bad idea to bring your own snare and bass drum pedal, either. The worst part of rehearsing at Ultrasound is they lock up the PA, so every time you need to adjust a mic level, you have to call in the tech…
