Watch your wallet. Had a procedure at Cornell Imaging that cost ten times the amount charged by East River Medical Imaging. Ten times for the exact same procedure. Highway robbery.

Ask about the cost in advance, even if you have good insurance. They inflate their prices well above the customary and make bogus adjustments to their bills passing on costs to the patient which are not part of their co-pay or co-insurance. Absolutely arrogant staff at their billing office. They have the nerve to tell me that it’s impossible to estimate pricing in advance for a routine MRI! If you go to a restaurant, would you order a bottle of wine without knowing whether it will cost you $ 10 or $ 1,000. Everyone blames insurance companies for the health care crisis in this country but the real culprits are greedy hospitals with inflated prices 10−15x higher than in most other developed nations.

Agreed with the previous poster — Shockingly sub-par. The location does not matter. I tried twice at 2 different locations. First time ran into the 2 hour wait, felt deceived and rescheduled. On my second attempt at a different location did not feel safe. I won’t go into detail but this is where the shocking sub-par comes in. I really like my doctor but the test he requested are going to have to come from one of the other out patient radiology facilities I am already comfortable with.

I accompanied a family member for a test here. Although I have great respect for New York Presbyterian in general, this experience was shockingly sub-par. This facility has 3 locations; we were at the one at 425 East 61st Street. Unfortunately, it’s being renovated, which was perhaps the problem. There are patient files shelved in the hallways, guys walking around with tool belts, and an ambient temperature of around freezing. Bring an extra sweater, or perhaps a thermal blanket. Definitely bring a snack, because they are overbooked, and based on what I heard in the waiting room, they will be slammed for the rest of the year. Although they told patients that the wait might be 20 – 40 minutes, we waited for 2 hours before seeing a technician. The dozen or so patients huddled with us began making grim jokes; some were actively furious. In the end, we were there for more than 3 hours for a routine test. Everyone on staff was very pleasant and trying to make the best of a bad situation. But it was a bad situation. At one point, I overheard a doctor discussing a diagnosis with a patient – in an open hallway next to a waiting room. That’s just not professional. I would avoid this location, at least until the renovation is over.
