I was in need of a serious trim/​cut after getting crochet braids done elsewhere. I found Napstarr on Unilocal,and called them up. Annette was able to fit me in without an appointment, after works hours. She is incredibly professional as is her assistant. Has an engaging personality as well. I walked out smelling like a fresh peppermint sweet (she offers lavender or peppermint oils in your hair if so desired) I observed how her clients were done in rotation. No one just sat and waited to be tended to. I will be coming back after these braids are out for some natural hair TLC. Thank you Annette!

Nappstar Hair Salon in a word AWESOME! Annette and Scarlett are very nice and accommodating. My appointment was at 10am and Scarlett was there before me waiting and I arrived promptly at 10am. I love that! She listened to what I wanted and did just that! And the scalp massage with my hair wash was an added bonus! I’m new to NYC/​NJ area and I don’t use salons often because I hate waiting usually associated with them but like I said prompt and accommodating! And my hair looks FABULOUS!!!

I was in town for a wedding and decided to treat my locs to a salon visit for a retwist and updo.
After performing online research, my mind was set on NappStar.
Setting up an appointment was seemless, simply complete the online request and you will promptly receive a response.
Next up, the appointment. The salon is cozy and welcoming.
I was greeted by Annette and Jasmine, they were both very friendly which immediately made me feel comfortable. The other clients were also very pleasant.
From start to finish: wash, retwist, styling, and drying. I spent a little over two hours there. Please note my locs are about elbow length.
I will definitely return sometime in the future, when I’m in town again.

I messaged Nappstar really late on a Saturday night through Unilocal and they responded right away. I told them I wanted crochet but I did not want them to matte, so they recommended the Freetress hair and showed me a couple of styles with the hair. I happened to find a specific style I liked and sent them the picture and they were able to style my hair exactly how I wanted it. I am able to part my hair in the middle, on the side and I can push it back for a different look. The staff is amazing, very sweet and lively and they make you feel right at home.

After wearing crochet braids all year (got it redone a few times) to transition from relaxed to natural, I went back to NappStar for Annette to install my permanent loc extensions and I love them! Annette knocked mine out faster than expected and she gave me all of the information I needed for maintenance. I receive just as many compliments for my locs as I did for my crochet braids! :)
I’m convinced, there’s nothing they can’t do. And the salon was recently renovated, it looks fab! Headed back for my first re-​twist in a couple weeks :-D

Annette is great. She is very skilled at what she does and is very personable. She schedules appointments appropriately and is also super fast. She respects her clients’ time and will not have multiple people waiting for hours after their designated time slots. The salon is clean, chic and comfortable. The customer service is great. My experience was pleasant and non-​stressful and I was pleased with the results. I will definitely g back to her and refer her to friends and family.

Annette is a lovely person. She took the time to discuss styles with me days before my appointment. The Chelsea location is convenient. I don’t want to have to travel to Harlem or Brooklyn to get my hair done. Rosine was my stylist for cornrows in a ponytail/​bun. I had enough of African braiding salons. Nappstar is clean and comfortable. The prices are reasonable compared to other natural hair salons in NYC. My hair looked great! I received compliments daily.
It took me 3 years and many hair disasters to find this place. I have a salon now.

I began my loc journey with Annette as my guide. She is knowledgeable, caring and fast! The service is just as excellent as the final result. When i arrived at the salon, Nyemah was there to greet me and take me to the salon. Once inside my hair was washed and detangled, and soon after Annette began loc-​ing my hair. I am beyond satisfied with the beauiful results. They make you feel like a regular even on your first visit.

Beyond satisfied with how my crochet turned out. I literally received compliments everyday (from men, women, children, senior citizens, homeless people, etc– every race out there). I had it in for about 2 ½ months and it seemed like the older it got the better it looked.
I’d admit… I was a bit apprehensive in the beginning, but they assured me that I will be pleased with the outcome. Indeed, I was – exactly as I imagined. I truly appreciated their services and listening to what I wanted. I highly recommend Nappstar!

In Fall 2013, after seeing Chescalocs mention her stylist’s name (Annette aka NappStar) in a YouTube vid, I set my appointment because I had a wedding to attend. Been coming ever since. I latch my locs every couple of months and maintain them on my own, but come to Annette when I do not have the time to style my own hair.
Here’s what I love about Annette:
1) Reasonable prices.
2) Beautiful hairstyles. Her fingers work like magic.
3) She works fast! I have about 100 locs. Annette washes, retwists and two-​strand braids my hair in no more than 1 hour. I sit under the dryer for another hour or so. To do this on my own would take me 5 hours.
4) She’s really fun and personable. I could spend hours with her. But since she works so fast, I don’t :)

It took me three months to find an affordable, timely and personable salon where I could get my locs twisted in NYC. Annette is absolutely amazing and it is a credit to her that most of her business seems to be from referral. I have been to her on three separate occasions and now keep a standing appointment for every four weeks. Even when I need to get fit in for a last minute appointment, Annette is great about making something work for me. I cannot recommend Annette and her salon enough!
