Hy-Vee Food Store

Alright, when it comes to small town grocery stores with a friendly staff and environment, this Hy-​Vee is the spot. When I lived in Mankato I absolutely loved coming to this grocery store and doing my shopping, I didn’t care if it cost more than other options. Best feature of this Hy-​Vee is absolutely the meat counter. Always fresh, always competitive and always helpful butchers. Much of my college loan money not used on alcohol went towards buying Brats, Steak, Twice Baked Potatoes, Stuffed Mushrooms and Pork. The biggest stand out was always the brats, I mean these guys do it right! Always more flavors and selection than any of the other stores in Mankato and even in Minneapolis! Kramarczuk’s and Von Hanson’s ain’t got shit on the downtown Hy-​Vee:) In the summer they will often have the big smoker out front and you can smell the aroma of grilled flesh down the entire span of Riverfront Drive. The ribs and pulled pork are always good when they have it freshly prepared and extremely cheap, just another way the Meat Department is making people happy!
