Tile Installations

Alain did my fire place with tiles I already had. He charged a reasonable hourly rate and purchased the supplies himself. He assisted with grout color selection.
Kind, on-​time, did a fantastic job.

Add me to the list above. I called Alain based on his Unilocal profile. I’d had my bathroom retile project bid by other firms – whose prices were fair and who seemed nice enough, by the way – but Alain just left a better vibe. At the planning stages, he was thoughtful, helpful with counsel and cheery in his assessments. I live in an older home with some structural quirks that made the job unusual and he troubleshot these in a thoughtful and logical way that gave me a lot of confidence.
When work started, he was on time, industrious, and as always, cheerful. The work was completed per his projections and at a reasonable price, and it looks great. Alain is a class act, easy to work with, and the kind of professional I wish were more common in the trades. I will gladly refer him in the future.

Alain did a wonderful job retiling our entire kitchen and front porch. It looked great, but a few weeks later we noticed that the grout wasn’t properly sealed. We called Alain, and he came out the next day, looked at it, and immediately apologized and scheduled to come back and regrout and reseal the whole area. He was great, and our floor looks awesome! We will definitely call him again for any other jobs we have.

We had a few Spanish speakers work on our kitchen remodel so I figured I should diversify and get some French speakers in on the project as well. These guys do quality work, they installed our floor tile on time and it looks great. Nice guys too.

I called Alain based on the Unilocal reviews I read. I have never had any work done and had next to no idea of what I was doing. He came out the same day I called and had a fair estimate for me by that evening. He helped me to make a better decision about the tile too. I completely gutted the bathroom, in my very old house.
Once he got out here, I told him I guessed I needed a plumber too — so he called his friend Dan. Dan came right over and told me what I needed and what he would do and how much it would cost. HE also told Alain that he needed some more farm fresh eggs in order to make his famous Banana Cream Pie. Alain promised to provide them.
I went straight up to Morrison Plumbing Supply to get the items Dan recommended and found out from the (GREAT) salesperson, Kelli, that I had stumbled upon the two best guys in the business.
Dan and Alain sent me some pictures of work they had done which gave me an idea for a vanity. I went out and bought a piece of furniture from Primitives and called Dan to tell him about it. I told him I couldn’t bring it home, as my husband is usually out of town… but that he could go look at it at the store until I could get it back here. He said he would be over the next morning to take me to pick it up. He showed up, with a giant piece of Banana pie for me (seriously — you have never had better), picked up my vanity and brought it back here and carried it inside (!).
They came over to start work the next week, and as it is my only bathroom, I had to clear out for a week so that they could work. Once ALain arrived that morning, it occurred to me that I needed some elctrical work done as well (duh). So Alain called his friend Patrick, who came right over and gave me a more than fair estimate and told me exactly what I needed to get it all done. I got it and left town for a week.
While I was gone, Alain took care of my dogs — even bringing them treats, and both guys semnt me email updates and pictures. They ran into some trouble with ancient plumbing and and a rotted floor, but the work is basically on schedule, and I am thrilled with the progress. Once I returned, the horrible state of the walls in the bathroom nearly killed me, so Alain called a friend, Manny Castro, who came over the same day and gave me a very reasonable estimate and is coming today to do the work. He asked what I was going to do about the demo’d cabinet in there, and I told him I wasn’t sure, the carpenter I called never called me back. So he gave me the number of a friend, who came right over and took measurments and fixed a door while he was here.
I seriously can’t believe how easy and fun this has all been. I am going to miss Alain and Dan when it is all done! I will mostly miss listening to Alain singing along with Edith Piaf and other golden oldies on NPR. He is funny and sweet and a real pleasure to have in the house.
Oh, and a true craftsman. The work is impecable. Clean, huge attention to detail — and all done with quiet cheerfulness I didn’t know was possible in a guy working all day in a cramped space. Plus, every single person he knows in the business is the same way — all funny and sweet and very, very good at what they do.

Found Alain through Unilocal and called him based on Alexandra L.‘s review. Alain tiled the backsplash in our kitchen (Pflugerville area). We had a few materials picked out from Home depot, as well as a few designs in mind. We called him on a Saturday and he came out the same day to give us a quote. He gave honest opinions when we asked for them about the design/​materials and gave a very fair price.
Our experience was similar to the previous review. Alain was a class act to work with, easy to talk to and paid extra attention to detail. When he came in to work, he was on time, if not early, and even though we changed our mind on the design (from the original quote), he honored the amount we had agreed upon. Alain brought his tools and always cleaned up after himself, storing away any tools to the side if they needed to be left behind and throwing away trash. It was very apparent in his work and manner that he had many years experience working with tile.
It has been an enjoyable three days and we highly recommend him and Tony (the other Frenchman) to any tiling project you need done. We look forward to the next tiling project just so we can call them!

When I was looking for a flooring installer, my friend recommended the one-​man company, Tile Installations, manned by Alain Gueneau. Alain turned my friend’s kitchen from a dark, cramped, wood-​paneled sore into a airy, retro cooking space wonder.
To remove the existing laminate flooring and patches of adhesive vinyl beneath that, and replace with all new Pergo™ floor in my living room, kitchen, and hallway area, his bill came to $ 4000. I believe the price was fair.
But what you get with the price is a classy French man to work in your home — and he gets the job done lightning fast. The one time he was late, he called to apologize in advance. He was running behind because he’d needed to feed his ducks.
One time, I came home to find him and his assistant (also a French man), working efficiently like two gears in a clock, sneaking in gulps of red wine, and listening to NPR.
The floor looked magnifique when they were done. Unfortunately, the Pergo started to show horrible scuff marks within a year. But blame that on the Swedes.
