I took my brother for beginners lessons to celebrate a milestone birthday, and we had a blast. The location was ideal and the runway where we glided was meticulously kept. The harnessing equipment was comfortable and secure, although you could tell it had had a lot of lovin’. Don’t expect full bathroom facilities, they only have outdoor johns for public use. There were just three people in our class with a single instructor, Steve. We spent four hours there total, with one hour of prep and training and three hours of actual flight time divided between the three of us. If you’re able to book a day when no one else is there, you’ll have all three hours of flight time to yourself. I definitely recommend that. Steve made us all feel very comfortable with the process and was thorough in teaching us how to be safe. We weren’t nervous at all when we went out to fly. The gliding process itself is pretty simple. You put on a harness, attach it to the glider, lift the glider onto your shoulders and start walking(then running). After a few paces the glider lifts you off of the ground and you’re flying! It’s very easy. I’m quite petite and light-weight, so Steve would help me lift the glider up. Once I had the weight on my shoulders it was fine and not too heavy to manage. They actually have three different sized gliders for different body weights, so even kids can fly. Overall it was a great experience and one I highly recommend.

The instructors are knowledgeable and do everything possible to ensure your safety and comfort while giving excellent directions. My friend and I had a lesson with two other guys who had more experience than we did which was nice because we got to watch some real flights in action. We all took turns getting two flights at a time. Every flight got better and better because Steve, the owner/instructor, gave great feedback that was easy to implement. By my final flight, I was actually starting to be able to control turns. If you are nervous, like I was, about the prospect of hang gliding– this is the place to go. There’s no jumping off the side of a mountain, you are on completely level ground and get the power of flight through a special towing rig that Steve created. And beginners don’t go more than about 3 – 5 feet off the ground. I plan on going back for more lessons and hopefully more height :)

I don’t know what the previous reviews are about but I had a great time ! Steve was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He made sure we had a thorough understanding in ground school then let us give it a shot. The weather wasn’t cooperative but we get to go back and try again. Will definitely recommend Blue Sky to friends! Sidenote: My friend and I both had groupons and had to schedule on a weekday, but this is completely understandable. Blue Sky is a business and needs to make money from regular classes. Of course those have priority.

Terrible experience with the owner. I tried to schedule a flight with my groupon and he kept treating me like a second class citizen because I had a coupon instead of paying full price. I kept getting put on stand-by meaning I MIGHT have had a chance to go if someone backed out. Finally, after being put on stand by 3 or 4 times I quit calling. This also doesn’t include all the times we got knocked off because of too high winds, and I understand that it’s a very climate dependent sport but we got canceled on at least twice. The owner was so abrasive and mean about it, just calling us «grouponers» and repeating how we would only be able to put on stand-by. In all honesty, I don’t care about being canceled on because of weather but don’t treat me like I’m second class. He’s the one who promoted it on groupon, right?! NOTWORTHIT.

My fiancé and I took the beginner’s hang gliding lesson. It was four hours long — 8AM(sharp!) to 12PM. There were five people in our lesson, ranging in age from early 20s to late 50s. The instructor was awesome — very professional, considerate, experienced, and fun. He explained and demonstrated everything clearly and thoroughly. He really made us feel safe; I trusted him completely. If you have never hang glided before, be prepared to be active! You will need to carry the hang-glider(about 50 lbs) on your shoulders and run several hundred feet for take-off. But I am pretty small and I was able to do it! For the beginner’s lesson, you will only go up about five to ten feet. And you probably won’t fly farther than 200 — 500 feet. But it is a great introduction and very exciting! Hang-gliding is VERY weather-dependent, so we only got to do a few flight attempts, but the instructor provided a great experience even when the wind did not cooperate. This was definitely a great«first timer’s experience». I highly recommend this experience(and business) to anyone!
