‘Confratute’ combines the words conference, fraternity, and institute, all in one. It is one of the longest running summer institute on enrichment-based differentiated teaching held at UConn. It started back in ’78 by Joseph Renzulli and Sally Reis(Renzulli is considered one of the ‘fathers’ of GT education). This PD provides research-based practical strategies for engagement and enrichment learning that is extremely useful for GT educators. It is a week-long event, in which there are strands(mini courses that are taught by educational leaders and master educators), training, forums, special topic sessions, evening forum sessions, and, of course, keynote speakers by authors and researchers. Courses range from curriculum compacting, differentiating curriculum, to forensic science. Not only is this PD great for GT teachers, but is open to elementary/middle/high school teachers, enrichment specialists, curriculum specialists, administrators/coordinators, teachers of visual arts/performing arts/librarians/specialists, staff development specialists, school psychologists/counselors, and even for parents of GT students! Once you register, attendees are provided accommodations(double or single(extremely limited)) on campus with meals, free parking, and a shuttle transfer to/from the airport. There are even groups you can join, such as the ‘ConfraChorus’ with Ben(LOVEIT!!!), or participate in the Variety Show. There are also nightly social events with wine/spirits to mingle and to network. One of those conferences that is on a ‘To-Do’ list for any educator! :D +1-week long professional networking/development event +held at UConn
